I know the Books forum isn't the most popular forum around, but there are quite a few who frequent to discuss books they are reading or have read. I think it would be nice if CB catered to them to, since most other forums have their own clubs or competitions or something. We could have like a book a month...obviously this would require the participants to go out and buy the book, but one book a month really isn't that much and it would motivate us all to read more. _smile.gif And we could all take turns picking out books and discuss them after we all read them. If someone didn't want to read a book that someone picked out, they could still be in the club as long as they chose a different book for themselves to read. That's the only requirement: Everyone reads at least one book a month.

Yeah?

I'd be up for this. I'm always looking for something new to read and since I read pretty fast, once a month wouldn't be difficult.

It would also stimulate the Book Forum, which would be great as well.

I've always thought CB needed a book club but never thought we could get enough people interested. I wouldn't be able to participate right away, but I would totally be interested when things settle down with school. Great idea. _smile.gif

i would 100% participate. the only thing is the choosing of the books, considering if my school doesn't have it, i would have to go to the city library which rarely happens and it would be a little chaotic as first. but i'd totally get the hang of it. let's do it.

LOL JC. I'm sure no one here wants to read a lovey-dovey teenage girl book. Maybe the participants could take turns choosing the book, but it all depends on the type of reading y'all want to do, I guess.

This would be great to have! I always have to read a book constantly for English so it'd be great to have some good book recommendations. Book clubs, ftw. _smile.gif

I LOVE THIS IDEA!

I've always wanted to join an official book club! I haven't read anyone else's responses, but it would be so cute if we made a chatroom once a week / month to discuss the book we read! And in discussions, we could each bring up questions that we thought of while reading the book to discuss!

We could cover poetry, short stories, long novels, classics, etc! *plans agenda*

READING POSSIBILITIES
Kate Chopin's The Awakening, Desiree's (sp?) Baby, The Storm
(I have enjoyed every piece I've read by Kate Chopin, especially the explicit content for her time period! shifty.gif)
Jaqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls (slightly girly, so I guess JC might not like it :/)
Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat (much preferable to the harder-to-read Interview With The Vampire, which I still enjoyed :P) compared to
Stephenie Meyer's Twilight (vampire discussion anybody?)
Nathaniel Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter (I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK)
Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (a sick, wonderful read)
V.C. Andrews' Flowers in the Attic (to discuss incest, solitude)
pieces by the transcendentalists
---Things I Haven't Read But Supposedly Have To
Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude
Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club
Dante's Inferno

^I don't think JC would be willing to take even a few seconds out of his life to consider reading Twilight. if this actually happens, i'm almost 90% sure it'll be recommended A LOT, even though the majority of the members would have already read it. shrug.gif

and since there's already been options thrown out there (michelle...)

Jude by Kate Morgenroth (I think guys and girls would absolutely love this one)

I also think it would be cool to kinda have another group (inside the book club) that starts with series and such...but once it's started, nobody else could join. basically...they're a part of the club, and read the book everybody else is reading, but ALSO, within they're little "group" that they form, they start reading a series and have their own discussion and kind of plan their own schedule. they can be shorter series, such as the Twilight series, or longer ones, Such as the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series (if this happens, i'm totally starting this one). or it could even be a group reading from one author.

OH. one more think. what about Biographies/Autobiographies? for one of the months, I think it would be neat to let everybody pick a Biography or Autobiography. each person picks a different one, of course. and like every week, i guess, somebody "in charge" of the book club can post like a journal question, asking for certain details about their book, and each individual will have to write a paragraph (or more if they choose), answering the journal. some would be like:
Characterize your person.
Is there any way you can relate to this person? How/How not?
Why do you think this particular person chose to write about their selves? (autobiography
Why do you think the author chose to write about this particular person? (biography)

catch my drift? so, pretty much, i think the book club should be a little more involving, such as you actually have to participate in things, not just read the book.

don't worry about me, i'll probably read almost anything. i think a good read is a good read regardless of whether it's directed more at male or female readers.

I like this idea. I think it's better than the book recommendation thread. I have to read books for class anyways, so might as well read them along with other people. I might not be the best person to recommend books though pinch.gif

Is there any update on this yet? I'd do it because I always have opinions about a specific book, and maybe we can have a civilized argument over the author's motive or some shit. I've read a lot of the ones listed above.

Sammi, if you would like (since this was your baby), go ahead and make a topic and let's get started. I don't see any reason to wait.

I've read many listed above as well, but would not at all mind a refresher read.
