We've all had something happen to us in life that we could learn from. It doesn't have to be tragic or unfortunately, but what has happened in your life that warranted the best advice you ever recieved? What was the advice?
When I was 14, I got off the trolley in Camden, NJ, with a bulky MP3 player, a UNC Jordan throwback, and the baby blue and white Jordan I's. I got held up at gunpoint. I told my cousin about it and he said, "that's what you get for being a pretty boy. Dress for the weather, and the environment, lil' n*gga." Outstanding advice. |

Wow, and for those of you who don't know, Camden is the most dangerous city in the U.S.

I was having a serious conversation with some very good friends of mine about stuff that I had dont in the past and still holding on to it.
"I don't know why, but when I want to let it go, I can't." "That's because you still see it as a part of you. That's not who you are anymore." -- I read this in the book, A Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls: "Things will work out in the end." "But what if they don't?" "Then you haven't reached the end yet." I could go on with all of the things that people have said to me that have impacted me. |

A fortune cookie from Manchu Wok once told me: "Do what is right, because it is right."

This is probably going to sound very simple and a bit trivial, but my grandmother used to tell me, "pretty is what pretty does."
I was always insecure about my appearance and it didn't help that I was considered "odd" by most people (including the majority of my family). I was a quirky kid with quirky habits who was chubby. My mom barely scrapped by financially and I was perpetually teased and made fun of. Whenever I would have a day when I just felt like the most ugly thing in the universe, by grandmother would tell me, "pretty is what pretty does." She gave me inspiration and confidence with that little phrase and taught me so much about kindness, respect for others and that I was beautiful no matter what I wore, no matter what my hobbies were (I liked bugs and performing little science experiments, for example) or what I looked like. |

I read this in the book, A Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls: :O :O :O"Things will work out in the end." "But what if they don't?" "Then you haven't reached the end yet." THAT'S where it's from. Yeahh, I remember at Barnes & Noble there was some little inspirational card that said "Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, then it's not the end." Oh, I am so squishy. And I still remember I was crying outside of class just a few days after my mom had passed away, and a friend of mine who'd lost his dad a few years ago stopped to help me and while he was walking away he told me "Just do what they want." And it was the most succinct advice anyone had ever given me that actually stuck. |

When I want to know something, I go about an indirect means of getting information that I want out of people, usually by means of probing and dancing around the topic. I don't know why I do it, but I've always done it around with my boyfriend, until he tells me, "Why don't you just ask questions?" And, questions basically led our friendship evolve into something more, so I would consider this the best, well, "push" I've ever received from anyone.

I don't understand how people get dehydrated. It's not like at PT, that's all they yell at you about. "Hydrate! Bitch, I said hydraaate!" Of course I took the advice, I love water before, during, and after PT.

A fortune cookie from Manchu Wok once told me: "Do what is right, because it is right." I got a fortune cookie that said "You will be Hungry Soon. Order takeout now." That was the best advice I'd ever gotten. Sadly, I can't really think of any REAL ACTUAL good advice. My friends suck. ![]() |

Speaking of Asian food, some Yakiniku or Tempura sounds good right now.

"Don't kill yourself by putting too much on your plate, you'll never accomplish anything efficiently that way."
Or... "Work your ass off now, you'll make it easier on yourself later." I haven't decided yet which to accept, but when I do I'm positive it'll be life-changing. ;) |

Everything happens for a reason.
And a quick word of warning - if two of your buddies are dating and you know it's never gonna last, DON'T say a word to anyone. They'll only blame you for their failings! The point being here is to take all relationships seriously, even the stupid ones. |

I like that one too. One great piece of advice I recieved was to remember that yes, the future is important, but don't focus so much on it that you forget about the day you're presently in. |

I remember one episode in my life that I was being manipulated by chauvinistic bitches and getting really money-hungry to the point I was just using and dumping my friends for some loot to get some. Then one night I sat down with one of my friend's brother-in-law with some beers and was being real with him. He understood and just told me,
"Bitches come and go but your homies got your back. How you gonna sweat a hoochie over your boys?" and "You make that money. Never let it make you." |
