Uhh..not sure if this is the right place to post this. I was thinking debate, but i dont know. Anywho...
A lot of people say all this technology will make people stop communicating and doing anything natural and blah blah blah. Do you think an advancement in technology will improve our world (as appeared in t.v. shows and futuristic books) or ruin this world (um..also in t.v shows and futuristic books =P)? I think you get the point, right? I'm sort of in the middle about this. |

I don't know. I mean, at points you'll see some pointless technology that just makes you think "What the hell will they come up with next?" but at the same time, technology is what makes the world what it is today. I think that pretty soon people are going to start inventing things that pretty much eliminate humans to put forth any effort or lift any fingers and I believe that that will be a downfall for humans.
But in the same regards, I am talking about small frivolous things, and not tremendous advancements in the medical or military fields. Obviously if we could create some technologies to rid the world of our current problems, that would improve it. A lot. |

Both, depends on what we're creating. If we're speaking artificial intelligence, as long as we still have the command that they must obey us, it's still a machine.

There is a certain point until technology is going too far. Medical/military technology is okay by me, but even modern technology such as television today ruins lives. Entertaining technology only encourages inactivity, and more and more people today spend their lives in front of a television, with little motivation to do real work or exercise. How many "fit" people do you see today? Not a lot. Skinny girls/boys is not the equivalent of "fit," either. Besides having jobs/school with little time to exercise, that's an exception.
What do you hear about today in your casual conversations? Technology. The iPod, shows on the television, breaking news on television, the "awesome" music videos on YouTube. All of which includes some form of technology. So, you could say I'm in the "middle," too, it just all depends on what people do with it. |

I guess I'm in the middle, as well. A rise in even more advanced technology, I think, will cause us to become unsocial and weird. We'd rely on this technology to keep on living, and with a lot of people this is already the case. Though if this new technology will help the world, such as medical equipment, then I'm all for it. Things such as virtual reality game helmets, and 6 ft wide televisions are probably not going to help, these are things we could all live without. So I guess it's a mixed answer.

I guess technology can be bittersweet. Some technology can be beneficial for us. (For surgerical procedures and all of that.) And other can just plain be addicting, like the T.V.

I'm in the middle. It's really good how technology is really giving us the advantage of taking things easy, but there are times when technology can be such a bitch, for real.

Do you think an advancement in technology will improve our world (as appeared in t.v. shows and futuristic books) or ruin this world (um..also in t.v shows and futuristic books =P)? I think you get the point, right? Technology stops people from communicating? How is that any kind of conclusion when we have technology to thank for this discussion between you and I? A girl in Saigon VN can talk to her sister living in Houston with few buttons to push. Businesses can communicate with their suppliers; Moms can reach their kids any time with cell phones. Technology is not "making" people do anything. People use technology as a convenience. If anything, people force others to use technology for their own convenience. We still have the choice to do things the "natural" way, but that'll just limit our boundaries by taking too much of our time. As we all know, Americans live on "time" so we're so dependent on technology. However, it's very much still a choice to be dependent. If people choose use technology to communicate rather than pesonal contact, then that's too bad. Technology is there to enhance communication, not to impede. Laziness shouldn't be blamed on technololgy. I, for once, still LOVE getting hand-written letters mailed the old fashion way. |

Humans created technology so in theory isn't it mankind that will make or break this world? Technology only advances when humans advance it.

^ i agree its really mankind that will end up breaking the world
there are things technology should never replace, like real-life relationships, learning how to do things by hand, and untampered nature. |
