How much do you hate cutting onions? Man, my eyes sting SO SO SO bad when I cut them, and after I cut them my fingers smell like onions for a few days, regardless of how many times I was them. f**king sucks.

They say that if you dip the knife in like water every time you cut it, it shouldn't make you cry.

I can cut onions without crying. My daddy has a technique that he showed me to prevent crying when cutting them.

It's some sort of acid. Sulfur, I think.

Anyway, I think there are some tricks to cut onions so that it doesn't make you cry. It only makes my eye burn and tear up, but I don't look like a sobbing mess.

If you get your hands wet and rub them on stainless steel before you wash them it will take the onion smell right off.

I wear a bandana on my face when I cut onions.

If you chew a strong-flavoured gum when you cut up onions, you won't cry. :)

I heard about this too. Did you know they sell lumps of steel and call them "steel soap" for this purpose? Waste of money, I think.

I've only cut onions in science, but I heard that if you chew gum whilst cutting them the tears go away

I don't cook much, so I don't actually spend a lot of time chopping onions, but it does bother me. If my mom's in the other room cutting into an onion, I definitely notice it, even from that distance. My eyes start to burn, and it's really uncomfortable, but I don't start tearing up or anything.

to all you people crying from cutting onions, hold your breath next time. the thing that makes you cry travels up your nostrils and through your tear ducts. kinda like when you have sinuses.

so i've been 'not breathing' everytime i cut, and i haven't teared in 6 years now. and i cut onions a lot 'cause i love onions ;x. and i personally think it's fun dicing them ;P.

i use a chopper. it saves on a lot of tears. another way is also covering your face. inhaling it is what makes you cry i think.
