to all the asians (mostly koreans) you know what I be talkin about ... when they say that, are they being honest or rude? the problem i've witnessed was that some ppl go around callin korean guys/girls fob when they're not even one ..... cuz ...
1) you have to be born in korea to be fob here in america. they were born in america. so that automatically dosen't make them fob even if they damn looked like one (which idk how they look, how the hell do you guys tell??) ... correct me if i'm wrong please. same goes with twinkies but kind of a different story here. i've seen hell of a lot of koreans here dressing preppy clothing but that can't make them twinkie ... their sense. their preference of clothing. and i'm sure they can't act "white" ... who agrees with me? any objections? plz be honest, i'm not trying to hate, complain, or moan or any of that shit like i did long time ago. i just feel like this is sort of a problem and i wanna know/resolve. |

When people call me a "twinkie," it's usually just kidding around and really, I don't have any objections. I was born and raised in the U.S. and am just as "white" as my friends and neighbors with the exception of celebrating certain things (like Chinese New Years), having the stereotypical "asian" parents, and speaking Chinese. Compared to my friends from Asia, I consider myself very white-washed.
And most people don't call Asians or Indians "fobs" unless they have an accent to go with it. Seriously though, it's not an issue to stress over. |

Haha I can usually tell if someone's a fob...especially for girls, the fashion is kinda different...
Why is this in entertainment? |

um, just because you're korean doesn't mean... anything. it happens to practically all asians who don't act 'americanized.'
most people i know don't call people fobs or twinkies to be honest OR rude - it's not a derogatory term unless you put it in that context. it might just be the people i hang around, but when people get called fobs directly to their faces, it's usually accompanied with affection. everything is not korea, korea is not everything. geez. if you're asian, born overseas, and end up here, that makes you a "fob." the term "fob" is rarely applied to brown people or europeans. to tell the difference between fobs and american-born.. that just takes practice. it's usually the style of dress and random mannerisms. i don't get why this is a problem.. |

My friends say it with the purpose of joking around. For me, it's actually the other way around; people refer to me as "white-washed."

Dude my facebook major for my college is Pre-Fob.
I "dress" like one, and my english is kind of bad even though i'm born here. Though compared to some of my cousin's who are actually are fobs, i'm pretty twinkiefied. no it doesn't offend me because i say things about other races to joke around as well. |

I LOVE TWINKIES/WHITE-WASHED ASIANS.
They crack me up. I came from an international school, and I had a "twinkie" friend. She had a few Asian tendencies, but she always told me stories about her nagging mother and their Asian traditions. How they all read Chinese news even though they were in America. "Twinkies" are awesome, and I called her that some of the time. Or a banana. |

Well, honestly, I love stories that come from white-washed Asians. I think you all should share some with me. They are the best; so much more interesting than white girls who have nothing better to do than to talk about their nail polish and how Bob didn't call them back.

bob called me back.
lol, what do you mean by stories from white-washed asians? the most outlandish story i can think of is defending one of my friends from a slight rabid camel, not that that has anything to do with asian tradition.. |

You know, those who are far removed from their Asian culture but their parents aren't. Makes for wacky stories. Maybe the girl with whom I was friends only had so much to say about her very Asian parents.

It shouldn't be taken as being rude. People just like to specify who they talk about. Nothing more. If some white guy said, "Look at that Korean over there," he could be talking about any one. But if he said, "Hey, look at that FOB over there," he is most definitely talking about the most foreign, Korean in this case, one there. Simple as that. |

Can't take everything to the heart or up the azz. If they hate, let them. Don't have to stoop to a lower level like them just because they're ignorant. You are who you are and that's better than going around trying to impress people all the time. But you can't be a bitch either. As for "twinkies", imo they're suburban cats who forgot where they came from. Tell me something's not wrong when old folks converse with youngings in native tongue and they talk back in English and you see the same ones not even take their shoes off in the house. Tell me not, that culture isn't being killed and replaced with today's vain fads. It's sad to see how money changes people but it is what it is, like they say. Well that's what I see because I'm from a city full of azn pride and have to keep it on that status. EDITED.

I'm a bit of both, I'm in the middle, I guess you could say. It's so weird, I can speak perfect english and it sounds like I wasn't even Asian anyway. Then I can switch back and speak my native language fluently, I can understand fluently too, obviously. See, diba? ![]() |

i've never heard twinkie, but i've definitely heard fob. i've called people a fob, but i never mean it offensively. i've called my friends fobs. in my area, its mostly the chinese that get called fobs in a possible offensive way. i think fob is used differently here. to us, a fob is somebody who speaks in their native language yet tries to act american. if you get what i mean..
anyway, some people mean it offensively, some people dont. QUOTE I have never ever heard of this. Mustn't have crossed the oceans yet I'm guessing. fob is short for fresh of the boat. |
