Now, when I talk about birth control, I'm not talking about condoms or such, I'm talking about the birth control you get from the doctor. If that's the pill, shot, etc.

I have a question myself about what I am on.

I'm 17 years old. I've been on Depo Provera (The shot) for 3 months now. It's really messed me up. It skipped my period in November, gave me two periods in December (Each being 9 days long instead of the normal 4-5) I've been a mental wreck with my emotions. Plus, the shot was given to me in my stomach. Gah. I'm a thin person with a bit of muscle in my stomach, so it hurt alot, but now I've noticed a little bumb under my skin where the shot was given three months ago! Also, when I'm not on my period, and I have sex, when we are finished, there is usually blood on him from me. If you or someone you know has been on Depo Provera or any other form of the shot, and can help me out on understanding why this has happened, please help.

If you have questions about any other form of birth control, feel free to ask.

Oh, I totally know how you feel. I was on the shot and it messed with my emotions, too, and it caused me to become severely depressed. I had random breakdowns for no reason. I also had an irregular period like you did, but these are common side-effects of being on the shot, especially if it's your first one. There's really not much to understand other than that the shot will mess with you a little bit, just as all birth control have their side-effects. Talk to your doctor about it when you have to get the shot again.

Thank you for the reply. My next appointment is Valentine's Day. I'll be sure to mention it to them. The emotions thing is terrible. I've been lashing out at my boyfriend for no reason! Hopefully by my next shot things will get better.

My boyfriend has become quite familiar with me being angry for no reason. He handles it extremely well. Be sure to tell your boyfriend that it's your birth control and it's not that you're just being a bitch. If you haven't yet.

Again, don't worry about it too much, if this is your first time getting the shot, these symptoms are very normal. Hope things go well with your next one.

Same here, the shot is really the way to go. Its one shot every three months, nothing really to remember to do.

I have my reservations about putting anything like this into my body - I don't think I'd ever go onto the pill or have the shot or an implant. I know too many people who have had quite severe side effects.

The shot is messing with your hormones, which control your periods and mood.
