So,... I put a few pictures of my new tattoo (that my parents don't know about) on facebook and apparently my cousin saw it and told my aunt who freaked out and apparently called my dad and told him.

Long story short... when I go back home for Christmas (I'm in college right now), I'll be in a lot of shit. I'm contemplating telling them that it's fake, but I'm not sure if they'd believe it.

I don't know what to do. Should I just tell them the truth? Or ... whatever.

Um, you're in college. Call up your parents and tell them that you won't spend your vacation with the family if all they're going to do is yell at you. Your time is more valuable than that. Tell them to get over it. This is your life.

P.S. Your tattoo isn't overwhelming or anything. It's not like you got some guys name tattooed to your body. I thought it was a nice, subtle tattoo.

If you're 18 (or over) you're parents really don't have a say. It would be nice if you didn't have to deal with them shitting a brick, but it's your body to do with what you please.

I agree with all the comments ^. It is your body and no one elses. Your parents should be more focused on whether you are doing good in school rather than some silly tat.

It's not so much their yelling that I'm afraid of. They're probably going to cut off some of my money supply. They did that when I got a piercing without telling them. Everytime I asked for money last year, they would be like "why, so you can get another piercing?" I mean, I'm working, but not enough to completely support myself (yet) and pay the college tuition bill at the same time (which I do anyways).

moved to relationships...since this is mostly a relationship problem between you and your parents. Maybe you'll get more help on the issue.

I know as much as you probably don't want to, talk to them. Tell them, "You know I'm grown, and can do what I want, but I still need help, and you are my parents, and aren't you supposed to help?". Something along those lines. I mean, after all they are your parents and I'm sure they've planned up to the day your funding for college?

ok, dont use the excuse that "i'm grown and it's my body..." why, then they will probably retaliate with "so you think you're grown, then we'll cut you off from the family" or something in that area... if you really need them to help out with school and stuff, then the best thing to do is just to tell them. tell them you are sorry for not telling them sooner, but that you were planning to tell them. Explain your reasons of getting it. I think, the reason why parents dont like it when they find out about piercings/hair coloring/tattoos, is that they are the last to know...

they know we are all growing up and want to try different things... some may be permanent and dangerous, and such but still, they are our parents, they would like to know what is going on in our lives...

so just apologize about not telling them sooner and tell them why you did it... i'm not sure what the tattoo is, but im pretty sure if its nothing too extravagant, outrageous, or wild, they wouldnt mind... let us know how it goes!

I hate this negative connotation to tattoos. I mean, what's the deal anyway?

I can see some people being agitated if you tattoo "f**k" on your face or something, but seriously, a tattoo is just like any other accessory.
