I was watching the Discovery Channel. There was some show about Nostradamus on, and they kept mentioning 9/11. Over and over again they said "It was the worst attack..." "Most horrifying...". I can't help but to disagree, but IT WAS NOT THE WORST!! 2,993 people died in that attack. Sure, a lot of innocent lives, but what about Hiroshima?
90,000-140,000 completely innocent people died in that attack, why isn't that considered the most tragic ever? When that happened we, as Americans, were no better than the terrorists were on 9/11. I would dare say, we were much worse. What about the 72,000,000 people that died in WWII? Why isn't that worse than 9/11? Or the 40,000,000 that died in WWI? WHAT ABOUT THE 25,000 TROOPS THAT DIED AS A RESULT OF THE 9/11 ATTACK? I hate how Americans are like the emo teenage girl that wants everyone to feel sorry for her. There have been so many worse things than 9/11. Get your head out of your ass and take a look around you. Jesus Christ. |

They didn't care because it was so last century.
And they probably meant worst attack on the U.S. itself.. as in US soil. Hiroshima (along with Nagasaki) was in Japan. ![]() |

^ Yes, but you said "worst attack" as in worst attack on US soil. That's probably what they meant. They don't care about numbers. Even in the Vietnam war there were more troops who died than 9/11. But once again, and I apologize if I sound redundant, but they're talking about the devastation and crap that happened. ESPECIALLY since it was kind of a surprise attack (well not really, as rumors have told me), since the "war on terror" (and pretty much all those other wars after the Civil War) have taken place overseas...
And I'm really stressing on the "domestic" aspect of the opinion stated on the show (or whatever it was on that channel). |

If that's what they meant, I have no gripe. But most Americans act like everything is about us, and it's not. I mean, are we even the most powerful country anymore?

^^truetrue; but on the other hand, we're gonna have to start worrying about other countries-i don't want another world war here, but it looks like that's what's trying to happen. eventually countries are going to side with us and somebody's going to attack somebody else and...boom. world war.
If that's what they meant, I have no gripe. But most Americans act like everything is about us, and it's not. I mean, are we even the most powerful country anymore? yeah, most. what about the people who don't... personally, i think 9/11 was staged. |

I meant 25,000 troops as the number of troops that have died thus far in iraq. I don't know where you're getting your numbers from, but Americans, as of October 2007, make up 3,840 of the deaths in Iraq.Still. I think people should be more considerate when saying it was the worst because, based on total number of deaths, it wasn't. I think it's mostly personal opinion. What makes a disaster a disaster? I don't think American's are selfish. At least not in the part of the country I live in. If American's were selfish they wouldn't be over in Iraq and Afghanistan working to help them get their government under control. |

I found it on wikipedia. I know that's a bunk website, and I apologize.
A disaster is, by definition: 1. An occurrence causing widespread destruction and distress; a catastrophe. 2. A grave misfortune. |

personally, i think 9/11 was staged. ^ Same - there's a lot of unanswered questions. I know I've read up on things and heard from other people about how the President (or someone in our government) knew about an attack beforehand. I'll get back to you on this, as this isn't exactly a "omg wtf happened in 9/11?!" debate. Rather, this is about it being the "worst disaster". And might i just stress that they are probably talking about domestic disasters. It is most certainly NOT the worst disaster ever, but it is pretty bad, I guess. It didn't cause "widespread" destruction. But I guess you have to look at both sides of the argument. You can't believe everything you see on TV. Of course they're going to make a big deal about 9/11. It's sad that I heard more references to 9/11 than Hurricane Katrina. As for this current war we're in -- I wouldn't say anything yet because the war's not over. Numbers fluctuate. |

But the death toll can't go down. We can't save the people that already lost their lives. It will do nothing but rise for however much longer we are in this war.

Well, for one the attack came as such a suprise. America wasn't at war (as with Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and then suddenly to have an unprovoked attack on one of her most iconic buildings with the catastrophic loss of life that went with it; you can understand how they say that in that instant, the world was changed.

I understand that aspect.
I just... don't think it should be labeled as the worst. It was the worst attack on American soil. It wasn't worse than those poor Holocaust victims. I think the world changed after that. And it wasn't worse than either of the World Wars, which also changed the world. I don't think we should forget about the other tragedies. I think they should be talked about the same amount, if not more, than 9/11. Wasn't December 7, 1941 a day that was supposed to live on infamy? It seems as though most people have forgotten about that, because it doesn't affect us anymore. We aren't in that war anymore, so it's not important anymore. |

I'm sorry if I came off as someone who had American pride -- because I most certainly do not. It's because there's so much shady incidents that have happened (eh, let's not get into this) and how people are putting so much emphasis on certain incidents while neglecting others. Same goes for Katrina - it's more recent, yet it seems like people are moving on. As for international devastations - There are people out there who care about it. It's sad to say, but honestly the government has such a significant amount of influence over what is said and shown o television. That's why I say that people should not always believe what they see or hear. It's due to these kinds of publications that causes viewers to believe what they see, and suddenly everyone's talking about 9/11 as if it happened yesterday. You see what i mean? Oh wow that was a large paragraph. But yea, I'll post more later. Sorry if some of that sounded BLAH. My brain's kinda fried right now. ![]() |

Propaganda. They've already made plenty of movies about 9/11.
I think what someone considers a disaster is of their own opinion. It's something personal that matters to you. Obviously, the people who lost their parents and family in the attack are going to be more affected than someone who didn't even know where the trade centers were located. It got us involved in a war, I think that's pretty signifant. I'm not saying that there weren't other factors in the US going to war, but I'd say that aftermath of the attack added to the reason why they call it a disaster. |

also we're talking about something on disney channel here. are the world wars significant? of course they are. but see the difference between them and 9/11 to the viewers of the disney channel? one was in their lifetime, the other wasn't. i'm agreeing with everyone else and going with they didn't really mean the worst disaster.

After Hurricane Katrina happened, why did most people blame the president? How the f**k does a human being control the weather or mother nature? I've never heard of any other president being blamed for something like that. Bad storms happen, disasters are left behind, and a person has nothing to do with it. I would really like to know how to control mother nauture, that way I can send bad storms after all of the illegal aliens. Get rid of them in a damn twister. |

No, it wasn't just that. I remember seeing some report of a few people actually blaming him for the storm. oh yea probably the people who think if he had been doing more for global warming it would have reduced the strength since warmer water = more strength shrugs, i personally care about the enviroment/global warming but i don't see how anything would have been different if bush had been more active on that issue. |

Especially since Global Warming has been happening for years before Bush took the presidency. Global warming? LIES. No such thing. Where did you read that, in a book? Books re just factual statistics, and I, for one, know that global warming is not happening. And I'll have you know, I got that answer from my gut. Did you know a gut as more nerve endings than your brain? Look it up. I know I didn't. Yea there's so much stuff about 9/11 being staged. A lot of it actually makes sense, if you think about it. |

I also, don't believe in global warming. I believe the earth has cycles of weather in which some years are warmer than other years. |

To those who are claiming 9/11 was a staged attack:
I beg you...use common sense. There are 8 million people in New York City -- that's 16 million eyes watching; staging something of that magnitude is impossible. What we saw: two planes hit the towers, causing them to collapse (widely verified and held by 99.9% of people who have analyzed footage and eyewitness accounts of that day ad nauseum). What some idiot on his Mac conjured up after zooming in on grainy photos and linking various non sequiturs to the events that day: "Loose Change" and other moronic, amateur propaganda. And to anyone who challenges the fact that 9/11 was the worst foreign attack on U.S. soil, find me one more devastating. Good luck with that. (And by the way, Katrina claimed about 1,800 lives. Do the math.) |

Jesus Christ. So far only 3858 US soldiers died in Conflict in Iraq. http://icasualties.org/oif/ Anyways, yeah I agree, but at the same time I don't whine about it. I think that it's just current events. It will die down as the people who have lost family members in circumstances related to the 9/11 attacks die out. |

So conspiracy theories are for people who can't handle the truth? I have no connection to 9/11 so why wouldn't I be able to? I'm not saying I beleive all those BS websites-i'm just saying it's possibly staged. I'm just oober opinionated like that.
![]() Anyways, I seriously think it's time for a new President. The Congress or whatever (sorry if i'm not right on that part) can impeach him, so why aren't they smart enough to figure out that that's what they need to do? We need somebody different in office. I'm honestly too young to know or care much about politics, but a change needs to happen. Bush isn't doing much, as we can tell. Our economy is going to shits. We need more options-there's too many people out there who want to do something but can't/don't know how/aren't educated enough. |

yeah but nobody is going to want to mess with impeaching someone when he'd be leaving office soon anyway
so if u don't believe BS websites about a conspiracy then where do u get this information that makes u think it was staged? |

I think some of the reports about it possibily being staged and what not, were blown way out of proportion like a lot of other things. That's all.

yeah, like i'm going to list my reasons. don't think so.
i'm saying there's a possibility, and with my extreme hate of Bush, it just makes me think it's his fault. ![]() a lot of things really were blown out of proportion. i personally think we should have done what we needed to do in war then get the f**k out of there. and what are we doing now? sending our economy back to shits, along with turning countries against eachother. we have the chinese trying to poison us and everything...ok but on a serious note, i think it's just typical society things, so we're made to make everything bigger than it seems. |

Yeah, tell us. We want to know. It's just a nice debate with mild swearing, that's all.

OoOoOo...real biting find there. My argument was that the documentary she watched probably was arguing under the paradigm that 9/11 was the worst attack on U.S. soil. Which would be true, because it was. Next topic. I don't think she cares about the attack at all. I think that she's just annoyed at the people who won't move on. |

Oh, I care. I didn't mean to sound heartless. I know that tore apart families and that people are still grieving for their lost loved ones. I feel for them, and I am sorry it happened.
I am annoyed that I hear about it more than any other attack that I have ever heard about in my life. Worse things have happened. But, again, it's sad and I understand that people still think it's sad. |

I think they bring it up so much because there are so many who forget about it and act like nothing ever happened. That way some of them can further push their bullshit around. (I said some, not all!) I'm sure it will all fade away though, just like every other war, attack, and disaster have. That's the way the world seems to work.

I live in Ohio, and it was a terrible terrible thing. I am not trying to make it sound like less than what it was. I know that they aren't just numbers, but people and families destroyed. It's a terrible tragedy that no one should forget, but it also shouldn't upstage other terrible tragedies.

They didn't care because it was so last century. And they probably meant worst attack on the U.S. itself.. as in US soil. Hiroshima (along with Nagasaki) was in Japan. ![]() Yes, this was what I was thinking. Just simply adding, it was an attack on US soil. You know you are going to get more reactions if a bomb goes off in US than a bomb going off in the Middle East. |
