I don't eat dog or cat meat, but I know for a fact that it is normal in other cultures. Why is it so horrible for dogs/cats to be killed for meat, if cows and lambs are regularly killed for food (but aren't as big of a deal as cats/dogs)? Is it because they are seen as domesticated animals?
go on. |

Well I see cows, lambs, etc as more traditional meat, while cats and dogs aren't usually eaten. If you get what I'm trying to say.

well if a cow cuddled up in bed with me every night then maybe when i went to a restaurant i'd feel worse about eating it. i mean i guess maybe some people have relationships with their cows and chickens like they do they dogs or cats, but i doubt it. i love eating cows

I don't really care about animals.
People are silly creatures who want to deny the reality that they are animals themselves. Yeah, I'd eat a person; what of it? |

I don't know why, but I find this topic amusing. I don't really see anything wrong with it, I guess. People can be as attached to cows and lambs and pigs as they are to dogs and cats. I think people who have had cats and dogs as pets tend to not like it when people eat them.

Is it because they are seen as domesticated animals? go on. Domesticated or not, animals feel pain the same way. However, cultural norms dictate what should be food and what shouldn't be food. You answered your own question in your topic prompt. Why is it so horrible for dogs/cats to be killed for meat, if cows and lambs are regularly killed for food (but aren't as big of a deal as cats/dogs)? Is it because they are seen as domesticated animals? No, rather, it's because of culture =). That, and personal preference, I think. |

Yeah, I think it's because humans establish attachments to cats and dogs whereas lambs and cows are just seen as livestock. Personally I wouldn't eat cat/dog since I see them as pets.

I guess people are more agaisnt this because dogs and cats live with humans in their homes. Its more common for them than for a cow or a pig to live in their home.

Americans who think their culture is correct over anyone else's need to die. I've heard so much crap about American PETA members trying to trash our Celebration of the Dog event, just because they think it's "wrong."
WRONG CULTURE. |

You can also say that Americans' tendency to be direct and to be busybodies is also part of our culture.
