My cousin lives in SD, school was closed for her.

My grandparents told me they can see the smoke!

It's really devastating if you ask me.

Yea I see the smoke from Chula Vista. Since I live right off the 15/805 junction somewheres about 10-15 minutes away from Elba, I can smell some smoke. There's not really any ashes around where I am though.

BTW La Jolla was pretty bad yesterday. THe air was worse than today. LMAO they cancelled class at UCSD for today AND tomorrow, and my bio midterm was supposed to be tomorrow. SCORE!

I should pack some stuff... pinch.gif Too lazy..

lol my friend lives in La Mesa. It's actually not too far from my house. SDSU is like, 5 minutes awayyyy.

Anyways, ELBA! Stay safe. console.gif

A few years again there was something called the San Diego Wildfires and cedar fires. OMG it was around the same time at this fire! IDK if anyone remembers, but anyway school was closed for almost a week, and the fires were around Scripps Ranch, Tierresanta (where my high school was!), Julian, etc.

This sucks major ass. There's like 8 fires all over the county. I didn't think it'd get near since we live next to the lake, but it is! Last I heard one of the fires is 5 miles east of where I live. pinch.gif I just got home like 30 minutes ago--it's hard to breath. So I have to start packing. What a drag.

Also yay science lesson time :D
Forest fires are often stopped at the very start, no matter how minor they are. This allows everything, shrubs etc, to grow and prosper. When a fire comes and ignites these shrubs, the fire grows incredibly quick and is near impossible to contain. By letting smaller fire run through the forest, the brush is thinned out considerably and prevents the fuel for these large fires.

fortunately, we didnt have to evacuate, but parts of tustin (right around the friggin corner) did. the smoke is crazy where i am though, i got ashes all over my goddamned car.

hope elba is okay. i know it's considerably worse down south of us.

on an extra note: forest fires are easily spread because of the embers that fly up into the air, and since we have had some heavy ass Santa Ana Winds blow through here during the weekend, it caries the embers to other parts of the forest and starts new fires there.

But I still have to throw my clothes in the dryer... It's far off though. I think it's on the other side of the lake.

And Trish is right. These damn Santa Ana winds are making things a million times worse.

Ah, well I guess thats not that bad. But if it did cross the lake (if that could even happen since its fire and fire + water = x okayi'llshutupnow) then I'd evacuate ASAP.

Thank you Christina happy.gif

I am packing stuff right now. Staying with my aunt. Yes, I remember them! These are 20 times worse pinch.gif But I think that the fires from 4 years ago were much closer to this area. I lived in western Chla Vista back then. So I was good back then, except for the rain of ashes.

I live in Southern California but the fires aren't around here...at least for now. pinch.gif My friend goes to UCSD but I haven't heard much from him or if he's gotten evacuated or anything- just no school or stuff like that.

But this flaming sh*t is going ballistic!

Man Elba just can't escape fires. All those fires in Mexico 7 or 8 years back, they followed her. Musta cheaped out on that surgery.

That sucks. I am sure they'll be able to control the fires here, though. I must live a couple minutes south from your sister, but they haven't made us evacuate.

Yeah. Honestly I thought it'd never get as far as Chula Vista and just stay in the Jamul area.

Here's what I know:
- The Harris fire (The one in Chula Vista near Elba & me) split into two & is heading north (Eastlake/Bonita area) and Southwest (Ocean View Hills, my place).
- That fire is totally separate from the one I was talking about where the two idiots started it b/c they were pissed at having school that day
- They have the Harris fire under control, but you'd never know which direction the wind shifts to, so yeah. Still uncertain but good for now.
- Most of Eastlake/Otay (area of the Harris fire) is currently okay at the moment.

I'm currently on voluntary evacuation so I'm just waiting until it becomes mandatory to leave. But yeah, I'm all packed up just in case.

Hope everyone else affected by the fires is okay. My thoughts & prayers are with you guys. Stay safe. _smile.gif
