So whose getting? Whose got it pre-ordered? Whose getting every controller combination for it?

The game will be able to use GCN, Wiimote + nunchuck, Wiimote alone, and Classic controller. FOUR ways to play the game haha.

It's released feb 10, a 2 month push back :(
I hope they don't push it back again haha. Anyways, a bunch of new modes. There's this adventure mode where you can side scroll and you hae to fight bosses etc. Also the new power up for the super smash drops once per game, and you can get an ultimate move that's like a WTFPWND to everyone else. Pretty awesome imo.

Anyways, tons more on their website, and they keep you updated on the new characters that are announced :D
Most recent announcement is Sonic! Of course there are characters such as Ike, Lucas, Solid Snake, Meta Knight, Pokemon Trainer, and others that are being announced. Oh yeah, also Zero Suit Samus :D

My little bro's pretty intent on getting this game. Smash Bros. has been good to me too, so I'm interested in how this thing's gonna play.

What the heck at Pokemon Trainer though.

Pokemon Trainer is a character that uses pokemon to fight for him. Ivysaur, squirtle, charazard. You can interchange them, but they all have the same damage taken to them.

I wonder how online play will be. It's one of those things where you can't have any ping, at least I think.

If they can have online play with that Mario Strikers game, they best be able to have it with Brawl.

but you can only go so far in mario strikers. Its very limited and most of the games i won were from bad connection.

I highly doubt that. People would be cursing while a 10 year old is playing on the other end. Nintendo would really avoid this.

Yeah, Nintendo while having an adult audience too, has a large base of young people. Microsoft has always generally been aimed at an older age group, so there are no problems there. I don't consider PS3 a console. Regardless, I'll be plenty happy smashing people around without talking to them.

Out of all honesty once you get Super Smash Brothers you'll be content for the rest of that systems lifespan. This game never gets old as long as you have someone to play it with.

Its like me going out and paying over 200 dollars for one game, but I'm definitely going to get my money's worth.

I'm pretty sure their are characters that will be in the game upon release we don't even know about yet. I'm still praying that Shiek comes back.

Mewtwo and Pichu are the lowest tier characters, by far.
Marth was top tier last year, and, at the least, he's still high upper tier - the guy is not replaceable. Roy, on the other hand, sucks. With Marth, there is no reason to even touch Roy unless you're an a-hole. Yeah, I never got into Game and Watch (which is funny, it's like the only character I don't play as from time to time).

Same here. Hoping to go pro this time around, but I'm not really that concerned - I'll probably fall behind rather quickly cause I have a life aside from Smash - unlike some people. But, at the very least, I want to be able to meaningfully compete in professional circuits.

Falco just raised to top tier this year - he's an a-hole. Definitely a popular choice and a viable character. If not only for his SHFFL, he's a monster. And, quite an annoyance. One of my better characters.

My little brother already pre-ordered it, so it's supposed to come in February 10th.

I might not play it as much, though I'll probably be hooked on it too for the first couple of days, but I can tell my little bro's hyped up about it. Everyday he asks me if I want to play Melee with him, I guess to practice for Brawl.

Well Pichu is actually better than Pikachu if you know how to use him. You just gotta utilize his strengths . My friend is an expert with Pichu, he takes advantage of his speed and doesn't use certain moves like thunder. Basically if you use his good moves and stay away from his bad ones its pretty hard to keep up with him.

Roy and Marth are a good match. Marth has the speed but Roy has power (even though he can't really control it). Fox and Falco are awesome, but on big stages I think. Ness is good also, when you have full knowledge of his ablilties but my favorite has to be Link. He has a full arsenal of goodies and has the advantage from close and far range.

I couldn't really care less about Sonic. If he's a good character, we'll see; otherwise, I have no immediate opinions on his appearance in Brawl. As goes third party, I was a lot more excited about Solid Snake.

QUOTE(ArjunaCapulong @ Dec 19 2007, 04:44 PM) *

Bad idea - which sort of saddens me. However, this isn't Melee - this is a brand new game. Much like the physics of Melee differed greatly in comparison to the style and play of the first 64 installment, Brawl is going to be a completely different experience. Of course, the basic concepts will remain intact, however, the gameplay should see a dramatic shift - at least for the more technical players.

Practicing Melee will improve your abilities on the Gamecube, but, unfortunately, it won't perfectly translate onto the Wii - if anything, all that getting use to Melee will probably just confuse and frustrate you come February 10th.

QUOTE(YoungKCeezy @ Dec 19 2007, 10:04 PM) *
Well Pichu is actually better than Pikachu if you know how to use him.

Not really. Pichu is in the lowest tier. Pikachu isn't. Essentially, Pikachu just has greater combobility, priority, and hit-box.

QUOTE(mistalazyboi @ Dec 19 2007, 10:23 PM) *
Roy and Marth are a good match.

Not really - given equal opponents, using advanced techniques, Marth will win dramatically in all scenarios. Marth is top tier - Roy isn't.

Mario games? Mario characters comprise only a fraction of this game - which, really, does not reflect the Mario franchise all too much, if at all. Shit, I mean, haven't you ever played Smash Bros.?

QUOTE(Acid Bath Slayer @ May 16 2006, 01:34 PM) *
Ness isn't exactly weakened so much as he is replaced in the tier list. Adjusting for the brand new set of physics, Ness is pretty much just as great, if not greater, than he was. May take a bit more time to become familiar and comfortable with, but he is definately a viable character (despite his unpopular status in tournament play). His fair (f-air; forward air) alone is worth strong notice.

You also have to realize that Ness might not even be in this game. There has been no promise that all of the previous fighters will return, further, Ness has not yet been announced as a returning combatant. It's sad to even consider, but, we don't even know if all the old characters from Melee will be in Brawl.

No, Ness is a lot worse. He's pretty slow but doesn't have the weight to counter that, I find myself having to jump like a motherf**ker in order to use his better moves which leaves me open to the short hopping captain falcons and such, his moves lack the range and power they once had, his throw, yoyo and PK thunder have all been pussified and his pk flash is useful in only very few circumstances. Nothing works to his advantage in melee. I don't have a gamecube or the game so I haven't been able to remaster the new PK thunder (let alone this wavedash shorthop nonsense) and while I can hold my own at the parties I play it at, I'm no match for good players who use fast characters.

Always have to jump - if you aren't jumping or if you're unhappy about jumping (with any character) you're playing a poor game. In the case of Ness, you should be spamming f-airs and b-airs (with the occasional n-air and u-air) - there really shouldn't be much else that you're worrying about (this makes Yoyo and PK Thunder talk kind of irrelevant). I mean, Ness' strong point was never exactly power anyways. And, throwing, in general, has been completely remapped and refigured - it just isn't the same for anyone. We're talking about different games here and looks are often very deceiving. I mean, Ness doesn't have to be fast in order for you to play him fast - learn the advanced techniques and master his move-set and Ness is just as formidable as ever.

Meh, I still think he's a lot weaker. But the fact that no one takes me seriously because I choose Ness (which sometimes works to my advantage) speaks loads about his new reputation.

And they better include him. f**k them if they give the earthbound fanbase the shaft yet again.

Maybe the Lucas guy replacing Ness with will be better or maybe not.

I always hate how certain characters moves change from game to game. For instance there was a kick Captain Falcon used to do by pressing forward and A that was very powerful. But in melee it was replaced by some slow awkward looking kick. And I agree, Ness was downgraded tremendously, especially his throw and PK thunder.

Finally if Shiek isn't on this game then there is no point in me getting this game. _dry.gif

@NoSex - I can put up a pretty good fight with low level tier characters. sad.gif

I dunno why they'd include Lucas. They never released Mother 3 over here. Only a handful of people knew who Ness was before Smash Bros anyway, why replace Ness with a character that no one in America knows about? Unless it means they're trying to get people familiar with him for an official stateside release (I can dream).... Come on, they did it with Fire Emblem, they should give the Mother franchise a shot as well.

Zelda has been announced and confirmed, but... Shiek, not so much. I'm guessing Zelda will still hold the duel nature she did in Melee and your wish will be granted, but, who knows. In either case, I'm still very excited for Brawl (Peach is in, I'm alright for the most part).

Well, this is a Japanese game. I'm sure they are concerned about the American market, but they are also trying to please and appeal to their homeland. But, Earthbound (Mother) may very well see a new life here in the states - it isn't inconceivable. As you pointed out, Fire Emblem launched from Marth and Roy's appearance in Melee. Really, and sort of unfortunately, it seems like Nintendo is going to be using Brawl to promote new franchises and or rekindle the old.

Another pushback to March 9th.
Sheik is back.

I am sick of the push backs but it sounds like it will be worth it. I'm curious how it will work out with wii controls... if it fails you can still use gamecube controls.

And I love sheik laugh.gif

I'm still considering whether or not I'm going to be making the effort to avoid spoilers - since the Japanese version is out all the "secret" shit is going to start leaking real soon.

I haven't come across any yet. I'm going to avoid visiting gaming sites so that I don't accidentally find any. Gahh.

1. I thought you left -- but then again, no one ever really leaves.
2. There's no point in coming into this thread just to bash the Wii.

My brother and I are getting this game when it comes out.

Ahhh! AGAIN! Theyre holding out on us, and it upset me how the American delay is significantly longer than the Japanese one.

I don't think im going to get it. Unless they have the same glitches as they did, and the same game play as they did in Melee...i don't think it'll be as good.

They don't, and, I hear, it isn't.
And, really, that's exactly the issue. Melee was accidental genius. The designers didn't anticipate advanced technique and play like SHFFLing, Wavedashing, and Crouch Canceling. They just didn't have the foresight to really understand where the complexities and mechanics of the game would lead. The speed of the game only increased the gap between professional and advanced play with casual and scrub jerk offs.

Brawl has been drastically changed. The physics are completely nerfed - almost reverting back to the sort of slow floatiness of Smash 64. The sort of advanced and mind blowing play that professional and advanced players were familiar with in Melee may have entirely disappeared. For me, this is a great sadness. I will purchase the game, and I do expect to thoroughly enjoy it - it looks like a great game. But do I think I'll be playing it in six years? No. Do I think I'll be playing it in two years? Probably not.

If my friend was across the street right now, I would so go and play Melee until the sun rises and sets again. No problem. Brawl, I really don't have the same feelings towards.

My little brother had his reserved a long time ago, back when it was supposed to be released in February. He was let down when it was delayed again, but he's definitely hyped up again.

He's been playing a lot of Melee lately just 'cause he's so hyped.

That's exactly what I've been doing. I've been playing melee for about 3 hours/day for the past month lolol. Not that often, but plenty of play. I've been perfecting playing shiek and ice climbers. I love the Ice Climbers haha. Everyone underestimates what they can do, and they have a really strong smash.

Nate, have you been watching any youtube videos of brawl? 5 more days, mang. 5 more.

Playing all that Melee is going to f**k your brain for Brawl.

Yeah, dude. Actually, way too often. I find myself watching and or reading some sort of Brawl content every few hours. I can't help myself. I'm going to the midnight release out here to get my reserved copy, I'm stupidly excited.

I'm a cubetroller loyalist. If I'm playing a fighting game with any level of complexity, it only feels right. Speaking of, I want to get a Guilty Gear game...

Oh, I'm hoping to start off maining Peach and Diddy. Seriously, Diddy Kong looks amazing.

I just tried Diddy, it was kinda disappointing at first, but I bet you'd have to get used to him.

Some other guys seem mad overpowered though, like Meta Knight and Ike.

By the way, I don't think the physics of Brawl are that different that practice on Melee would kill you. Different, nonetheless, but not to that sort of degree. Unless you win by exploiting the smallest details in Melee (which I could never do for any game), you'd probably have a good advantage when transitioning to Brawl.

That's just coming from a recreational gamer.

My very first impression of Brawl was epic ('cause of the music), and I got pretty excited myself, but that was ruined 'cause I accidentally hit the start button and skipped the opening scene. =P

I'm ruined. I'm so conditioned to not even thinking about wavedashing, l-canceling, SHFFLing, DIing, CCing, etc. etc. etc. that this is going to be really uncomfortable for me at first. I play fast. I kill controllers. I like my advanced techniques.

The deal is that Brawl sort of reverts to the "floatiness" and "slowness" of 64 - this is what is going to really kill me. I'm going to feel really weird floating around like a jackass as opposed to hawking around my opponents. It's just... a really different game, insofar as I understand. But, that's the reality of it - it's a different game. It's not Melee 2.0 - gotta adapt.

There will be new techniques, new exploits, and new glitches (shit, there already are). I'm sort of excited, but I'm still really skeptical towards Brawl's potential as a serious competitive fighter (like Melee).

Right so I just picked up my copy. Never in my life have I felt so socially elite. The people there were just ridiculously lame, nerdy, geeky, fat, etc. I didn't even feel this good about myself at the Burning Crusade release. This was just pure lulz. There was this one kid who looked identical to Fogell who got his copy and was walking by all the other people just holding it up trying to make people envious. This one guy in front of me pulled out a swiss army knife and chased him. L O f**kING L. Anyways, time to play.

hah i did feel the same way about everybody else that was there, i was probably the only one decently dressed, not to sound to pompous. . but we where all out of the mall in like 2 seconds, the line dissapeared like 5 minutes after they let everybody in.

The wifi is going to be buggy at first. Things like that are always bugged when they first come out. They'll work out the kinks and hopefully set up some fast ass dedicated servers so people don't have to worry about lag.
