do the layout designers (of the complicated layouts like the div overlay) go to classes to learn this stuff? is this considered web design? or do you guys just go through tutorials? i know the basics, but man would i love to be able to do all those image mapping and things! what programs do you use?

They have threads and tutorials on here about how to make them.
I guess it takes alot of experience and trial and error to learn how to do all of it.

I use photoshop but then again I suck ass when it comes to layouts

It's quite possible to teach yourself the basics, and go from there. The resources and references available online (and offline) are awesome - so classes aren't exactly needed if you just want to web design for a hobby.

If it's more serious web-design (re - doing it for commercial purposes or you're thinking of a career in design) then classes are probably your best bet.

I use Photoshop/Imageready - but I had to find a few tutorials (how to slice images, how to image map, load brushes etc) when I first got the package. Search!

I use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Image Ready; the tutorials aren't so hard after you've practiced a bit.

I got into the yahoo pages and stuff when I was younger, probably around 10 or 11. For me, it was just a way for me to cool off from everything that was going on in life. Then I begged my mom to buy my PSP8... and I used to read through some tutorials and stuff, but lately I don't have that much time... esspecially with dialup. So now I pretty much just mess around with the program myself.
