This is a question that's been bothering me for some time. How come stupid people do not realize how incredibly stupid they are. In fact, some stupid people actually think they are smarter than the less-stupid people. I'll be the first to admit it, I have my stupid moments. But I recognize when I'm acting like a retard, these people are completely oblivious to the fact that people are laughing at how dumb they are.

The question I'm opening for debate is "What makes a stupid person think they are smart?" Is it the over doting of an affectionate, but rather misguided parent? Is it the lack of friends or social activities which makes the stupid person believe themself superior? I would like constructive opinions on this and hopefully we, as a community, can better understand the mind of a stupid person (Nate).

Dear Jeremy,

I write to you with a gay feeling in my heart for I know that I have the answer to your question. When you refer to someone as "stupid" it causes me ask myself what group of people you're referring to. When you use the phrase "stupid people" I don't think you're referring to people who realize that they know very little. While these people are stupid in the sense that they know very little, they aren't ignorant to the fact that they know very little and acting like they are intelligent. Instead this type of stupid person strives for more knowledge because they want to be intelligent.

You're talking about people who are stupid and wallow in their own ignorance by acting as if their shit does not stink. They swim in their own pool of despair drowning themselves in a mix of warm urine water and a hope that people will not look behind the thin walls that they have built to give off a glow of intelligence.

Anyway, these people act intelligent because they are seeking approval from their peers. It's an false ideology that says, "If I act intelligent then people will think I'm intelligent, and if people think I'm intelligent than I will feel and be intelligent." People who are seeking approval from their peers obviously do not want to be embarrassed by them.

This type of person generally caters to individuals who are either less intelligent than they are(because they can impress) or of equal intelligence(because people who are more intelligent than they are will easily steal the spotlight). The only thing that keeps them from becoming friends with someone who is more intelligent is fear. Fear of loosing self-worth, credibility, recognition, or acceptance. Hanging out with someone who is more intelligent will force them to submit. So, instead of submitting they bully people who are more intelligent to make them look stupid.

My conclusion, you are wrong when you say that these people don't realize it. These people do realize they are stupid but aren't willing to openly admit it because they are afraid.

While some stupid people realize they're stupid, a lot of stupid people think they're saying the right thing and think that they know what they're talking about. I think closed minded individuals (especially liberals) who are trying to make the short run better are stupid. Stupid people don't think about their actions and what consequences may ensue.

Stupid is as stupid does.

i disagree. circle gets the square.

if even half the stupid people out there were to realize they were stupid... we'd have a LOT less stupid people out there.
they don't know they're stupid, because of the simple fact they're stupid.

having a different opinion than somebody doesn't mean they're stupid. it means they're human.
having a lower intelligence is what makes you stupid.

but i also know plenty of people who i can prove wrong over and over and over, and ..... i get nothing. nothing.

here's a case point about a stupid person that i work with.

her: "i want to be a pediatrician!"
other friend: "really! that's awesome. a lot of work tho"
her: what do you mean
OF: well, you gotta go back and get your GED, then 4 years of medical school, and then 4 more years of residency before you are actually considered a pediatrician.
her: you have to go to medical school to be a pediatrician?

i kid you not. this girl is the epitome of stupid.

and she wants to work with KIDS.

You can disagree all you want but fact is those kinds of people that I listed are stupid in my book. Also I never disagreed to stupid people flat out realizing they weren't stupid, I was just extending the list.

Maybe a stupid person thinks that whatever they say sounds reasonable to them, that's why they said it. They're so stupid that they don't think that they are.

People view stupidity on different levels though.

I think I wrote this when I was high. I wanted us to find out why a certain person which for the sake of conversation we will call "Nate" was such a stupid fucking retard. This "Nate" is such a cock-sucking dillhole who deserves to have a condom break in his asshole and gets some form of super-aids. I guess some people don't realize their stupidity b/c ignorance is bliss (?) I mean, they live in their ignorance, and they're happy thinking they're smart using shitty, fake evidence to back up their arguments, and they're content with that.

It's really not so bad. Some of us should respect people like that; it's a sad life to live seeking intelligence and humbling ourselves by recognizing our own stupidity. laugh.gif

this topic made my day. not to spam but i think i can say "stupid" people annoy the crap out of me sometimes. at least the ones i'm around. i swear my step grandma is so small minded(if there's no difference between being small minded and stupid, cuz i can't bring myself to call her the actual word stupid). she could never even admit she was stupid. i mean whenever i correct her she goes "haha i was just pretending but i really knew what it was"
the quote "stupid is as stupid does" means people are as stupid as their actions right? what's that medical term for someone that always thinks they're right? i know there was one. some serial killers have that mental problem(it's not exactly a "mental" problem. gah i can't even remember the name of the catagory its in.)

edit: it's called narcissisic but i'm not going to go as far as saying all stupid people have it. and i'm not saying that narcissistic and stupid people have a conncection either XD. ok now i know the term.

It takes a smart or an above average person to realize they are idiots. However, that would be a oxymoron if a smart person was an idiot, because that wouldn't make much sense. But if that person is already an idiot, it's impossible for that person to realize they are an idiot.
