So today, I went shopping pretty much for like 4-5 hours. Newpark Mall, and Great Mall, for all the bay area people. Anyways, today I hit a record. Seven people asked me "can i try the fitting room" , "do you have a size 29 in this" "excuse me can you ring this for me" "hi do you work here" etc. This was all from different stores. Pacsun, Zuminez, Hollister, Abercrombie, Guess, and Hot Topic. This always happen to me, whenever I go shopping. But today was a record setting 7 people. It's usually only a 1-2 people. So I ask you, have you guys ever have a similar experience like this? And do you think it's annoying, or flattering? Or just plain out weird!!

I like Great Mall, Newpark Mall is bleh. HAHA. 7 People!? Wow. I find it weird. Not flattered or annoyed.

Oh, you spelled "Zumiez" wrong. =P

I think the reason why people ask is because the clothing that you worn. And maybe seems to fit that clothing store. As well as appearance.

Like a couple times, I was asked because I was wearing HCO @ Hollister, brands from PacSun/Zumiez, and A&F clothes @ A&F. (Not all in one day, lol) It's like 1-3x.

It's weird though..maybe slightly flattering? I dunno, but it's just odd how people come up to you and ask about things. Some stores should start having name tags though, so it wont be confusing.

Happens to me a lot.
I'm looking at the clothes
Some odd person walks up like "Excuse me um i was was wondering if you have any more of these shirts"

I'm like, "*laughs*, yeah sorry i don't work here.."

Places should get name tags and certain work clothes if they don't because it's annoying.

why not just have them employees have a hat with a big ol' sign on top of it saying "EMPLOYEE"

it's amusing though.

I think it's flattering... unless it's someone I know. Then it can get annoying, especially if they buy the exact same stuff as you everytime you go major shopping. Too bad that's happened to me 3-4 times now. -_-

I wouldn't doubt that at all Mike xD

Hmm I guess from time to time I can find it annoying if more than 2 people come up to in one store. Just one or two in every store I guess its okay. I find it overall kind of odd though.

that's never happened to me at a mall, haha. i dress mix brands way too much for that.

however, i did go college-visiting this summer, and apparently i look like a columbia, harvard, and yale student. harvard x2 because there were two people in a row who were all... "can you tell me where the - building is? i'm looking for a mr. ---"

i was like LOLSAUCE I'M 5 YEARS YOUNGER THAN YOU... uhh and i live in texas.

i don't even own any college paraphernalia..
anyway, it's flattering in a weird way :D

It's never happened to me...but I do it a lot. Usually I ask if the person works there first before I go asking for something, though.

That's happened to me a few times. I don't think much of it. I just say, "Sorry, I don't work here" and exchange glances with the person I'm shopping with.

It's annoyingly flattering. :D

I get asked similar things when I go out shopping; which is weird because I already work in a store I Duty Manager for. I think people see a confidence in you and will presume that it comes from being familiar with retail. Whether or not it is your store they ask you for help in. XD

I'd take it as a compliment.

I don't think its flattering, no. Annoying? only sometimes.

It doesn't happen to me though, or not in awhile.
Though, I was at target last week and this random girl was like "Do they sell shoes here?" and I was like "uhhh..... yeah. They are over there *points*" and she was like "Oh yeah, duh.. its target!" and walked away. mellow.gif

What the hell are you talking about lol? There just regular people like you and me. I go about my business shopping around these stores, and people just randomly come up to me if I work here and shit.

Has nothing to do with class lol. I guess the way I dress, makes them think I work at these stores. Because I dress a certain scene urban way that most workers at the stores usually dress I guess.

It's happened yeah, but not often.

I hate at work when people seem so confused if people work there. Its pretty obvious since at my work you have to wear black pants or a skirt, and a black blazer/jacket. I mean c'mon.

The only similar encounter I've had like this are when old mexican ladies or men come up to me asking me something in spanish, and thinking that I actually know how to respond to them. (I look mexican, but I'm not really .-.) I've always thought of it as annoying, especially since I've only recently learned how to say, "No habla espanol"
