i've had a guitar for a while now. never use it though. i tried when i first got it but didn't have enough time so i just gave up. i just got it out again today, cause now i really wanna learn. what's a good amount of time per day i'd have to put into practicing to get even decent? between, school, work, my girl, i barely have any time to even work out anymore, i have to skip it alot. so now i wanna try to work around my schedule for guitar. what's a good amount? any ideas?

At least an hour.
I would get lessons, but if you don't have time than that's not an option. Buy a book, or find a website that you like. They have good videos on youtube you can learn from. My boyfriend has been playing guitar for 15 years and he STILL practices all the time. |

I practice when I feel like it. Usually that means about an hour every day per instrument, but basically it's up to you. The biggest thing about practicing when it comes to music is that you go at your own pace, no matter what. You could learn and perfect one or two things every day and you'd still be making progress, so even if you've only got about a half hour every day, you're still getting somewhere.
Lessons are really helpful, though. The person who's teaching you can really speed up the process by telling you what to focus on while you're practicing. You'll probably enjoy practicing more, too. |

You must play your instrument twenty-four hours a day, at least.
I always try to, though I guess it depends on how much into your instrument you are. I wouldn't forget your priorities if you're not that into it. =P |

I have never taken lessons for guitar, but I know some basic chords.
There's really a lot to learn if you want to get into soloing and theory which is extremely useful. But if you just want to sing along with it you probably don't need lessons from a teacher, but you can just learn online or from a book. I would actually recommend getting a basic chord chart first and practicing playing and switching between chords. You can probably learn strum patterns yourself also. |
