Well...school lunches are kinda...bad. But after all, theyre kinda cheap, they come free from prisons, and it helps those that have low income by providing free lunch.
Well, that's what my school does.

Hmm...it would cost more to get them from restaurants, so I don't think they'd go for that. I think it's better to have them spend money on other things that would help students out more. Hmm...also, I don't think it would fit the "healthy" guidelines if we ordered them from McDonald's.

You shouldn't expect much from school lunches. They're there to simply satisfy the need for hunger (not necessarily your taste buds) and are usually expected to meet the nutritional values that most schools require of them for the health of the students. They're also very inexpensive in order that students from low-income families would be able to afford them and not go hungry. If you want the satisfaction of taste and good quality, go to a restaurant.

Yes, but it would be more, and as someone said before, it wouldn't be fair to those that can barely afford those type of lunches.

Yes, but at what cost? Furthermore, there is always the option of packing your lunch, you know.

i pack my lunch. i just wish sometimes i could get real food, you know the kind you actually cook, from the school cafateria. they don't cook. the heat up the food. it's cheaper to get food precooked in a factory and just heat it up.

My school's lunches are nasty. _dry.gif The meat is not real, alot of food isn't clean looking, the bread is almost always stale.

That's why 1/2 of the school brings their own lunches.

I eat PB&J's. I've made friends with all of the people working in the cafateria, so I always get a sandwhich haha. Once I was late and they ran out, so the lunch lady made one just for me. _smile.gif

It doesn't matter to me, besides, my school isn't made of money. I don't go to a public school where we can get resturant quality food. They give us gross stuff, but you can eat it.

Uhm, first off, the students are not required to buy the lunch. If they detest the lunches so, they are permitted to bring their own lunches to school. At least they give you some food.

Suck it up.

if they ordered from fast food restaurants, then the state would enforce laws against it.

Most of the lunches are crappy but some are good.

I wish they did a better way of preparing it.

I however stop eating school lunch and buy food from my school store like Cup noodles and stuff.

i don't care if they're crappy or not as long they're healthy, but in my school, they're not. they serve us burgers, fries, and oily pizza every single day. okay, maybe once in a while some other thing but that other thing is just as unhealthy.

i think a lot of the times, they just reheat the leftovers which is just sick because it makes the food all soggy. *gag*

i think ordering from restaurants is unnecessary. if they'd just make the darn food healthy and fresh, there wouldn't be a problem because no one can really complain.

i bet there are lots of things we don't know that have to do with school lunches. someone should make a documentary about that... and come to our school. i should've saved that expired nacho cheese they served us once.

this year, i`m skipping lunch . one reason is because it`s just plain nasty . another reason is because when we get our lunches the lines are hella long .. and by the time when you get them and eat, you always miss your next period . and if you miss your period . then you get in trouble . stubborn.gif so i`m skipping it and eat lunch at home after school .

the problem is it's a government contractor that does it- so the food is the cheapest possible.

i used to go to a school with mcdonalds and taco bell... that was sweet.

now i'm stuck with the same old government issued lunch.

we're not even allowed to sell pizza for fundrasiers- you aren't allowed to have competition with the lunchroom. monopoly, anyone? great, i'll be the hat.

Err.. well I think the main thing to point out is that school lunches aren't standardized.. I know that we get food from restaurants every day, and the school does offer healthy food for us..

My question is.. do you think school lunches should be standardized throughout? And if so.. what kind of foods should be offered?

they're plastic in the pizza. the pizza comes with a saran wrap topper that is left on when baking. it melts.

Goshness...I go to a school in San Marino...and we don't get prison food. We get prison LEFTOVERS! >.< Ugh...how I hate it.

Prison leftovers...ewww. That's not right. pinch.gif

But the food at my school is all right I dont mind eating it. I wish we had an open lunch like someone said that would be nicer.

Well cafeteria food is cheap. What else do you expect? You get what you pay for. I mean i seriously doubt any public high school staffs only "chefs". That would be more expensive to staff those kinds of people. They probably hire who ever can press the "on" button for stoves/fryers. That, usually, are stay at home moms. We actually get chinese food every WED. Although the price from school lunch to chinese food more than doubles. Plus schools are required to keep their lunches healthy and not too fattening. I remember when they took off the chicken sandwich because it was unhealthy. I suppose schools that dont have restaurant foods just dont want to deal with all that nutrition stuff. Now i just read an article about taking away soft drinks and vending machines in jr high and high school.

As for me, I eat w/e is in the vending machines and chinese on WED. I'll occasionally eat school lunches. Only if i didn't eat dinner last night. pinch.gif

I don't know what your schools are like, but we can get McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway, and KFC -- but that might have something to do with the fact that this school is one of the biggest in the midwest.

Hmm...it would cost more to get them from restaurants, so I don't think they'd go for that. I think it's better to have them spend money on other things that would help students out more. Hmm...also, I don't think it would fit the "healthy" guidelines if we ordered them from McDonald's.

wow for once i actually agree with my sister tongue.gif
