so many americans (excluding me and many others of course) are very dumb. basically, they don't know shit. like let me put it this way. "spanish" people are referred to people from spain (a smart american would know that) ... but a dude who is referring to mexicans or cubans as "spanish" ... then they're dumb. y'all dig me?

spanish people = people from spain that speak the language as well

spanish people = mexicans, cubans, dominicans? NO YOU DUMB ASS AMERICANS! LISTEN UP!

yes mexicans and all them other hispanic ethnic groups may or do speak "spanish" as their main language but just for that, u cant refer to them as "spanish" ... why aren't americans smart enough to just call them hispanic?

some stupid dude in hicksville, georgia: ey folks, those spanish guys working in the factory are poor! (when they're mexican)

a typical smart american: Man what a crazy parade for the mexicans today. Those hispanics are very blah blah.

y'all people get this simple shit twisted ... any concerns, holla at me.

Well how should he know better? I'm white, and a lot of english people are white. I could honestly care less what anyone called me. It really makes things less stressful and life more enjoyable if you shrug off generalizations. I mean, how are they supposed to know that I'm German?

Another thing that gets me is that some Brazilians call themselves Latinas, when actually most are descendants from Africa and/or Portugal. Just like dominicans, cubans, etc. Mexicans are actually Native American descendants. Not really latino. Alot of people from these countries didnt even want to be called until it was "considered" to be "cool". Basically hispanic is a heritage for most people and not actually a race. If you go to any country in whats considered "latin america"... you'll see native americans [or indians], those of african descent, and european descent. Are they hispanic? I think not. They just have hispanic heritage. Thats why in america, on the census..you'd see non-hispanic whites, non-hispanic blacks, hispanic, asian, black, white, etc.

Proof?

I won't even begin to say anything on this other than I think you're a hypocrite.

Steven, I tried saying I don't want to be called white anymore once in a thread like this and that didn't go over well in general.

what? you'd call them chinese. they're from china.

it does bother me when someone from Hong Kong refers to themselves as Hong Kongese. I understand their reasoning but excuse me, you are still of Chinese descent.

Ignorant ≠ dumb

It's a common (and has been for a very long time) mistake around the world to call a Mexican, Spanish and to call a Spaniard, Mexican even. Hell, my grandfather (who's been dead since the late 70's) used to get into street fights over that.
