* Prefects can take points; Ron got it wrong in Order of the Phoenix, which makes him a pretty poor prefect, eh?
* Fred and George Weasley were born on April Fools' day (no joke).
* Ginny Weasley's first name is Ginevra, and she is the first female Weasley born for "several generations," says JKR.
* Arthur Weasley has two brothers.
* Molly Weasley's maiden name is Prewett.
* Crookshanks is half Kneazle.
* The infamous Weasley cousin who was cut from the books was named Mafalda. She was in Slytherin.
* Dean Thomas's father was killed by Death Eaters when he refused to join them. Neither Dean nor his mother know.
* Dean Thomas was named Gary in the first drafts of the Philosopher's Stone.
* Hagrid, Lily, and James were in Gryffindor. (Hagrid was NOT in Hufflepuff.)
* Hogwarts has about a thousand students. (True, that number doesn't seem right, but J.K.R. said so, and she's the boss.)
* James Potter was a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team (although the movie claimed he was a Seeker).
* Hermione's birthday is September 19th; Ron's is March 1st.
* James Potter inherited lots of money and didn't need a well-paying profession.
* James Potter inherited the Invisibility Cloak from his father.
* Witches and wizards have longer life-spans than Muggles.
* The Gringotts' goblins return the Muggle money they acquire back into circulation.
* The approximate value of a Galleon is about five pounds ($7.30 or 8.00 Euro), though the exchange rate varies.
* Dumbledore is 150, McGonagall is 70 (and is really an old softy; she just doesn't act like it), Snape is 35 or 36.
* Hogwarts' school motto, "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus," means, "Never tickle a sleeping dragon."
* If placed in front of a mirror, the inscription on the Mirror of Erised ("Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi") reads, "I show not your face but your heart's desire."
* The happiest people do not become ghosts (12). (Therefore, we can assume that ghosts are people that died while sad, angry, etc. Myrtle was teased; Nearly Headless Nick didn't have his head completely chopped off; the Bloody Baron was...lonely?)
* The Hogwarts teachers do not stay at Hogwarts during the Christmas holidays. However, Filch, Hagrid, and Dumbledore do.
* A few of the Hogwarts professors have spouses, but that information is restricted for reasons we will find out about later. (5)
* To remove the tail that Hagrid gave Dudley in the hut on the rock, the Dursleys went to a private hospital where the staff was very discreet, and said that a wart had gone out of control. (9)
* Aragog is an Acromantula (see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). (6)
* Dragons can't be domesticated, no matter what Hagrid thinks. (6)
* There is more to the cats in the story (Crookshanks, Mrs. Figg's cats, Mrs. Norris, etc.) than meets the eye. (9)
* The animal an Animagus turns into is a reflection on his/her personality. (8)
* For Hagrid, keeping dangerous creatures is all about overcoming something that could kill him. (6)
* Azkaban is in a sea north of the North Sea. A very cold sea. (12)
* You can do unfocused and uncontrolled magic without a wand (like when Harry blows up Aunt Marge), but to perform really good spells, you need a wand. (5)
* Muggle education is not required for wizard children prior to attending Hogwarts. (9)
* A magical quill detects the birth of every magical child and records it in a book and Professor McGonagall sends an owl to each child when he or she turns eleven. (14)

* Meaning that Hermione was born in 1979, and is really one year older than the others? It's weird to think that if she had just been born before September 1st, in the Philosopher's Stone she would have been a second-year and everything would have been much, much different.

*I don't recall finding out anything further on this. There was never any mention of Dumbledore having a significant other, so he spent 150+ years alone? sad.gif Same with Snape, although we know he loved Lily his whole life.

* We know that Crookshanks is half-Kneazle, but what's special about Mrs. Norris and Mrs. Figg's cats? Does anyone know?

What I would like to know is, who are the two other girls in Gryffindor, that share a dorm with Hermione, Lavender and Parvati? I don't think there has ever been any mention of them, although I guess they don't add anything to the story. But a Gryffindor class of only Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Seamus, Dean, Lavender and Parvati each year seems a bit small. I guess there are a lot more students, but have they really been mentioned? In the movies, the classroom sizes have always been fairly large.

I really hope a Harry Potter encyclopedia comes out, and that it is very detailed -- with pictures! thumbsup.gif

Crookshanks is half kneazle?
what does that mean

QUOTE
A Kneazle is a cat-like creature closely enough related to cats that they can interbreed with them. A Kneazle has large ears, spotted fur and a lion-like tail.

Kneazles are considerably more intelligent than the average cat, and have a few knacks, in particular the ability to detect bad or suspicious people (to whom they react badly). They also have the ability to lead their owner home when lost. Despite their occasionally aggressive nature, if domesticated they make good pets. Kneazles must be licensed if they become tamed in the event that a Muggle mistakes it for a cat.

Crookshanks, Hermione Granger's pet, is half-Kneazle, which explains why he recognises that Scabbers, Ron Weasley's pet rat, is actually Peter Pettigrew, an Animagus. Arabella Figg also breeds them, and it is therefore likely that at least some of her cats are actually Kneazles or part-Kneazle. It is possible that Mrs. Norris is part kneazle due to her intelligence.

He was a Chaser for the Gryffindor team but the Order of the Phoenix book does say that he was playing with a Snitch. I think it also said that he stole/took the Snitch.

Oh my f**kin god, I cant wait for the day when people will stop talking about Harry Butthole Pussy Potter. Fantasy writing is so goddamn easy. "Hmm, how do I steal ideas from thousands of other people and then make a million dollars off of it? I know! I'll make him have scars and faggoty friends and stupid flying monkeys!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD DAMNIT!!!!

I hate Harry Potter. It's not reading. You think you're doing something cool because you're reading this crap as opposed to watching other crap? It's all crap either way. Read something good for a change. Read something that might actually change your perspective on society and nature and philosophy. Read something meaningful, not something that makes you wear capes and carry around wands and generally everything and anything that makes me just want to run you over with a steam-roller. Here are some recommendations. Grow up bitches.

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
The Great Shark Hunt - Hunter S. Thompson
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - Micheal Chabon
Catch-22 - Joseph Heller

Read something with purpose.

Yeah, JKR says in a bunch of interviews that she's always seen Dumbledore as a tragic and lonely character. He's never had a real equal before (besides Grindlewald) and despite Professor Mcgonagall being able to keep up with him, she still isn't his equal. He doesn't have a lover or, really, any friends like Harry has Ron.

Just a bunch of people who are very loyal to him.

You know what I would like for you to F***ING STOP bad mouthing Harry Potter and get life. With all the time you spend writing these stupid posts you could have read one of your "precious"/"good" books. Also just to let you know many harry potter fans including me consider posts like this spam spam.gif its fine if you have a problem with Harry Potter but you don't have to go spewing your bad thoughts about Harry Potter all over the world. Haven't you ever herd of that saying "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" I try to live by that saying every day BUT when someone starts talking bad about Harry Potter I stand up for it.

^Harry Potter is a pointless fad and it pains me that people go apeshit over it. People have been seriously injured by these fat ass middle-country mom's running over them looking for Harry Potter books. Thats just incredibly stupid and it reflects the poorest state of the human condition, so how could you people actually flock to this debauchery, you should all be ashamed.
The fact that she outed "Dumbledore" will hurt this series continuity throughout the years, and I am sooooooo happy. In ten years time, this gay series will be nothing but a distant memory, like the Beanie Baby, Pog, or the Yo-yo. Cant wait, cant wait, cant fucking wait.
Actually sweetheart, Ive read all those books Ive listed and plenty more with much more substance than Hairy Penis (that was immature, but I just heard it recently and it's funny). That is all, Im done. Don't be so goddamn sensitive about something that does not affect you personaly in any way. Why do you care what my opinion is? The very fact you become bothered by my words means you have wayyyyy too much of an attachment to this series and you should probably go to a therapist.

Get over it.

Yeah yeah, that's right IVE READ CATCH 22 and GUESS WHAT?! I LOVE HARRY POTTER TOO, and at the same time I think Huckleberry Finn IS BEAUTIFUL.

Jesus Christ, people need to calm down. They're fiction alright, for entertainment. Forgive the writer for having a book for entertainment, at least it's not cheap for god sake's. I've been reading Harry Potter since I was like in 2nd grade, and god damn, it's like part of me :]

17 Ways to Distract Voldemort while Harry Searches for Horcruxes

Guaranteed to send Voldemort after you instead!

1. Choreograph an artistic dance interpretation of his life and struggle for power and then force him to watch it.

2. Conduct a séance and pretend to channel the spirit of his mother.

3. Tell him he's been a "naughty boy."

4. Pretend to be the Sorting Hat and apologize - apparently you were wrong, and he was meant to be in Hufflepuff.

5. Call him Ickle-Voldykins...and then run. Fast.

6. Ask him to guess which hand the last Horcrux is in.

7. ...admonish him for cheating if he uses Legilimency.

8. Tell him you know where Harry is hiding, and Apparate before providing further details.

9. Dress up as Dumbledore and say you faked your own death.

10. Start an argument about Harry Potter shipping.

11. Tell him he's adopted and that he's really Hagrid's other half-brother.

12. Tell him Harry is his son and ask him if he's sure he wants to go through with Book 7 now, since it's become "soooo Star Wars."

13. Tell him one of his Death Eaters is actually a member of the Order using Polyjuice Potion - but refuse to tell him who it is.

14. If he gets rid of some Death Eaters in the process of figuring this out, then all the better for Harry!

15. Tell him that one of his enemies is plotting against him in the Forbidden Forest.

16. Tell him all about your enemy/rival and how he's nothing compared to them. Perhaps he'll go after them rather than Harry.

17. Tell him his plastic surgeon did a terrible job with the "red-eyed snake look," and that he should've had the self confidence to age gracefully.

That sucks...I'd rather just have a really long movie.

I can't see how they can do the sixth in one though. That, I think, would be a longer movie than one whole seventh.

Yeah, November 2010 and May 2011 are the release months.

It doesn't seem like Snape is that young in the books. I got used to thinking he's old because Alan Rickman is in his fifties, I guess.

I found that to be very interesting. I didn't know that Fred and George were born on April Fools day. I also was confused about the Ginny one for a second because i was like, wait, isn't Mrs. Weasley a female Weasley but then I remembered that she wasn't a born Weasley.

^ Exactly...

Does anyone know why Mad-Eye can see through Harry's cloak? It never made sense to me. I don't know if this was discussed in the old HP&DH thread, but if the invisibility cloak was supposed to render its wearer undetectable by everyone NO MATTER WHAT spells you set upon it, shouldn't it have blocked Moody's eye?

Maybe it's like science. When they made the cloak, they didn't have a special magical electronical (I just wanted it to rhyme) glass eyeball, and they weren't anticipating such a thing. So their spell theory was rendered useless to the new technology.

Probably not, but worth a shot.

I thought about that, but it seems unlikely. The cloak is one of the hallows after all, and what could be more powerful than something that can hide you from even Death himself?

Unless there's some sort of more amazing history behind the eye that we'll never know about. The advancements in technology don't seem that likely either; surely new spells could be made?

Speaking of which, how do you make spells anyway? Snape made some in his Hogwarts years, but I've always wondered how he did it. How do some arbitrary words he made up produce a spell?

I hope that HP encyclopedia comes out soon!
