Astronomers spy a gargantuan black void in space.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070823/ap_on_sc/universe_hole

Is this even an important discovery?
...being that, you know, they kind of discovered NOTHING.
Which isn't really anything special.

I predict it's either one of two things:
a giant pac-man-ish type thing is eating away our galaxy, leaving giant ((sorry, GARGANTUAN)) holes of nothing, or
it's Jesus! =D

But I digress.

Is this "discovery" even important?

I don't know. Usually these space things won't affect us until we're long gone, but if it makes them feel better that they've "discovered" this, so be it. _smile.gif

Do you consider a black hole in the universe "nothing"? Matter doesn't seem to exist there but there could be something else; we just don't have the word for it. :P

6 billion trillion miles? HOLY. I want to see a photo.

I think 6 billion trillion miles of empty matter that will someday suck us in is pretty important ph34r.gif

That's funny, i thought this topic was about [rap star white people hate]!</hackery>

It's an important discovery because astronomists haven't seen anything like it, so it kind of rewrites the rules a bit. For example, how did this get there? Maybe something we thought was solid isn't so solid.

Thats interesting. It could be an important discovery if the holes could affect us somehow. Do they know if its a black hole? Or is it just like *throws a rock* *hears the clunk*
