Am I crazy to want a baby if I'm only 17? I don't know, I had a dream about having a baby toddler last night, and I reallyyy want a baby for some reason. I don't have a boyfriend or anything, but I think the fact that having a baby you know that THAT baby loves you and it's a sure thing. Does anyone else really want a baby? Come on, there sooo cute and they love you. Haha, yea I just might be crazy. I just thought I'd ask anyone elses opinion. Thanks. [=

That's the problem with a lot girls, though. They think babies are so cute and cuddly. They think of them as toys than a responsibility. Babies cost thousands of dollars in their first year alone. It's a 24/7 job and unless you abandon the child, you're stuck with it. Wanting to have a family or be a parent is okay, even at 17. It's understandable that some people want a family, even if it means being a parent themselves. But I think it's foolish to WANT a baby like it's an accessory or something that gives you lots of attention, at such an early age. |

I've been wanting a baby since i was 13years old.
and i am 17 now. I always thought they were just so cute. Never thought of the responsibility. Until i reached 16 years old. Now i'm 17 i know all the advantages, disadvangtages, and everything, and i still want one but i'm smart enough to wait, and get some education so i can live comfortably and have a steady job before bringing another person in this world to take care of did you know if you dont have a job they take ur kid away they did that to my friend its a big risk but i cant wait! i really want one now. but im waiting until im ready financially. yes and they are so cute everyones having one now but i wanna bring my child in this world and give her or him everything he or she wants. i want that unconditional love from my kid a bond with a mother and child is beyond words so ur not crazy hehe :) if u are..i guess i am as well |

No. The prospect of having children does not appeal to me. Not now, at least. Maybe in the future...waaay in the future when I'm married and stable.

No, I'd wait. A feel that a kid would restrict my life.
I've experienced what it's like to have a baby around since I've got younger siblings. Thanks, but I can wait ![]() |

what you've written makes me so effin angry!!! wtf can u do for a baby? nothing, absolutely nothing
babies/toddlers/children are the most selfish creatures on earth they don't love you. wtf makes u think a baby will love you? a baby's brain isn't even developed enough to know what an emotion is and you think the baby is going to love you. it's wrong, foolish, and inane to desire a child when you don't know the first thing about motherhood. study the issues/problems of the world instead of thinking about opening your legs. ***i don't want to sound mean, but it bothers me seeing so many young girls with children they cannot do anything for. it hurts me, it hurts them, and most importantly, it hurts the innocent child.*** |

as far as every girl wants one... its not just a toy you can pick up and play with wen you want to... its a full time job... they maybe cute and everything but they do grow up and they do get attitudes too!!!!!!! |

Babies are cute, toddlers and teenagers are annoying. Having kids is like saying "Okay, I want to change a lot of stinky diapers for a cute baby for a few years, then I'll suffer for the next sixteen, and THEN I'll kick them out. That way I have someone to take care of me when I'm old =D"
Well, it really depends on the kid. But if you have a child you should think about them before you do it, if you're not prepared to raise them and give them most of your attention you should probably mature some more first. |

You girls that want babies...do you have a younger sibling?!
I have never wanted a kid becuase I've been around my younger sisters and brothers watching them and helping with them my whole life! My younger sisters are 3 and 4 years younger than me, and my little brother is 12 years younger! so I've had a taste of what its like, and it isn't fun. You need to be VERY patient and mature to handle a kid full time. |

it's hard to be "financially ready" for a baby.
you could have a million dollars saved up and still not be financially ready. it's not just the diapers or the formula that costs money. you're constantly buying new clothes, bottles to cups, eventually baby food. crib, mattress, new bed. you never ever get a break. up every 2 hours to feed or to change them. finishing school, or going to college can be a challenge, along with trying to hold a job at the same time. i think the people who want kids at such young of an age, are completely selfish. they want a baby so they can have something for people to look at and say "oh how cute!". to show them off like a trophy. i have yet to go into any public place and see a girl 18 and under, with any age of child in her arms, and that child be under control. whether it be the baby crying and mommy not taking care of it because she's too busy trying on the cute new shoes in the window, or the kid running up and down the isles destroying shelves while mommy looks at what kind of cereal the government gives her this month. nevermind the fact that you'll never ever hear a guy say "you know what? i'm 17. i want a baby". with that in mind, you have to think about the fact that if you have a baby at such a young age, no matter what the guy says about loving you forever and being with you forever... you're gonna have a 90% rate of baby daddy not being around. It's not the financial stability that you need. you can do it if you have to. i've seen it (on rare occasions). it's the mental capacity that you need. and i fail to see how at 17 years old, somebody... in fact, any body can say "i'm ready for a baby". this is, by no means me saying that people under 20 having kids all equal bad parents. i've seen some 17-20 yr olds take care of their business. but more often than not, it turns out to be way more than they can handle, and mom and dad usually end up picking up the brunt of it and taking care of the kid(s), while miss 18 yr old goes out with her friends until 2 or 3 AM. it's ... not fair to you, and it's most certainly not fair to the innocent life that you selfishly brought into this world. |

They wont always love you. Wait 13-15 years. It's a rude wake up call. Plus i had to carry this baby doll around for a whole day at school. It was such a hassle ![]() |

Not at 17. Turning 17 was almost two years ago and imagining a baby with me at that time in my life.. WOW, absolutely not.
I agree with what cyb3r0ptik (sorry, what's your name?) said. You need the mental capacity to do it; so unless you'll have a lot of help.. |

My back hurts, my ankles are swollen, and I cant see my soldier! Girls who'd want to walk around for months without seeing their solders are just sick. |

Babies are a huge responsibility.
There is no way I want a child right now. I would have no way to support it. I'm 17, and still have 2 more years of high school. Bringing a child in my life at the point I'm at would only cause me more problems and stress. Sure, babies are cute. But no way could I ever have that responsibility on my back. |

I think wanting to have a baby at 17 is the same concept as wanting to have a dog when you're 8. You like petting dogs and you think it's so cute when they sit on your lap while you watch tv and the idea of walking them and teaching them tricks.. but then you have to pick up its shit, remember to feed it, deal with if they don't know how to excrete waste outside, etc. etc. and then you don't think about when you become busy and just plain forget about. When you're 17, you're still a teenager and although I think the coolest thing about having a baby at such a young age is that you'll be young when your kid is grown up and personally I think that's the coolest thing ever, it's your job to enjoy life and not really worry about if your child is sick or if they need 60 cookies by tomorrow.

We've been through a lot - and I couldn't fathom ever hating her. And I personally loved parenting class. Learning about human development, learning about pregnancy, giving birth, raising a child etc... was a lot of fun, and quite insightful. I've always wanted kids at a young age. Lots of kids. I'm a big kid at heart anyway. |

Babies require ALOT of attention. Yes, they will love you. But you have to love them alot more. They're helpless. They can't take care of themselves at all.
Yes, I do want a child. But I'm waiting. I'm 16. Two of my friends are teenage mothers and they have them work cut out for them. Just be careful. |
