QUOTE
The vaccine, Gardasil®, protects against four HPV types, which together cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently licensed this vaccine for use in girls/women, ages 9-26 years. The vaccine is given through a series of three shots over a six-month period.

It sounds familiar to me, but I think mine was the PPD whistling.gif No, I haven't gotten it. But I'll probably get it on my next visit to the doc.

I didn't get it... although I should have, but I didn't ask the nurse. I'll get it on my next visit which isn't 'til next year.

I'm with you, sister. I am petrified of needles, so they always have to get me when I least expect it. But I sort of expect that they'll do it when I least expect it, but they're usually pretty good and quick and I can't feel them. But I hate hate hate hate hate them.

I got it a few days ago and I have to get two more shots for it soon.

I heard it didn't work though, so I asked my doctor about it and she said that it only didn't work well for girls that were sexually active.

For me, it would cost 200 dollars for each dose and there are three doses.

That's a really expensive vaccine.

...Isn't that the point though? To protect you from HPV, which is transmitted sexually? How else can you get it without being sexually active?

Sorry, I meant to say it works better when you get it before you're sexually active and it isn't as effective when you're already sexually active.

Of course it doesn't, but it helps a lot. It prevents the virus which in turn prevents the cancer.

My teacher went like insane on my class during health last year trying to get all the girls to get this shot because she said it was really beneficial. I want to get it while my insurance still says I'm young enough for them to cover it for me. I don't want to have to pay for it. Haha.

Haven't gotten it yet.
I plan too, I think.

Terrified of needles pinch.gif

My friend's putting up a fight against getting it, she says they can't be trusted and that they haven't had enough time to test the long long term effects. She's paranoid that it'll affect her pregnancy, that is if she chooses to have kids. And that her babies will have down syndrome, or some disability.

Not too sure about that though _unsure.gif

^ HPV is transmitted from skin to skin contact. So there's a possibility that someone can contract HPV without having sex. It's just easier to get it when you're sexually active.

^ I am a little confused.

Like what skin to skin contact.

I poke some one with it and i get it?

Or doing something sexually with another person...?

EDIT: Never mind

I am guessing you are speaking of like someone touching warts that they got from the disease and then you and them touching you?

From what I have read, it is EXTREMELY RARE.
