Mall Riot, causes rules to change Options

Basically, there was a riot at the mall by my house Friday night. Now they're changing the rules at the mall to, if you're under 18 you have to be with an adult.

Do you think this is fair?

under 18 requiring to be with an adult, to me personally, is a bit TOO extreme then again i do know people when i was that age to be "hard asses" so i guess i understand both points

are u asking if a curfew is fair, or are u asking if it's fair that someone under 18 has to be with an adult all the time?

Well if we are address the account that teens and adolescents have to be with an adult if under 18 I think is unfair

I think I'm biased though of course because I am under 18.

There are plenty of good reasons WHY to make it this way, but making it so that they MUST be accompanied by an adult is not the solution.

Parents of teens probably are relieved to have them go to the mall because it releases stress from being with those hormonal teens all the time

Good for those very protecting parents of teens, and also good for the parents with younger children.

Having parents around isn't going to stop the cussing or the brawls though, I mean the teen could just wander away from the parent and still do whatever he wants

Plus I think it is forcing a parenting thing ON the parents, I can't really find the right words to explain what I mean, but it is forcing those parents to do something whether they like it or not.

What would they do with teens then who are found without parents at the mall? arrest them???

I think they shouldn’t implement the rule unless it's extremely necessary. For this case, it's not since it doesn’t happen every often. It’s not like; there was a major threat, shooting, or a burning down the mall.

I’m sure the many stores will lose a lot of money especially pac sun, footlocker, forever 21, hot topic, albercrombie &fitch, and etc. these clothes are aiming for youngsters.

I say make a petition that both adults and kids can sign and then give it to the mayor or whoever has control over that mall.

I doubt this rule will last very long though.

okay so at my local mall people get shot all the time
thus creating on friday and saturday night if you are not 18 you must be accompanied by a legal guardian

the article talks about a curfew, which implies that the teens are only required to be with an adult after a certain time. if that's the case, then i agree with it. there are states with curfews anyway, forbidding minors outside without an adult, so what's the difference with having it at the mall? just go to the mall early.

It's not that dumb actually, they have done it to a few of the larger malls here in New York, and it's worked fairly well. The crime rate has gone down tremendously.

I used to work at a mall where you had to be 18 or older just to be in it after 4PM on weekends. People who work in the mall have passes so that they can freely roam around without being carried out.

If you're under 18 years of age and you don't work in the mall, you have to be with someone who is 21 or older to walk around the mall. I like it, it keeps those dirty scummy Gothic mall rats out.

That is a little extreme. But if people there felt the rule is necessary to feel safe, then it's probably a good idea.

Although, I'd pay to see a riot in the mall here. I don't want anyone to get seriously injured, of course; I just want to see what the incompetent-looking rent-a-cops would do.

There was a riot at my mall last week and a few people got shot. I was actually there the day it happened but left before it did. There aren't any new laws tho. I think it's retarded they are trying to make that law or rule or whatever. Just get more security or metal/weapon detectors if they're that serious.
