So there's this radio station in the Houston area, 93.7 the arrow (a rock station) that does this thing called a Birthday Scam. People get calls from the radio station and the radio station talks to them about something and basically tells them a lot of things need to change and that they owe fees and their house is gonna be repo'd etc etc. In order to find out an issue that the person's been dealing with, someone close has to submit the idea for the scam lol.

On their birthday they call the person up and give them a hard time (and these guys are really good at making things up on the spot) about whatever issue was submitted.

Would you do it? Would you be pissed if someone did it to you? Oh yeah people usually end up laughing at the end of it.

My radio station has something similar. Well being that I don't have a house I probably give the phone to my parents, ha.

We have the same kind of thing like that on channel 95.5 (hiphop/rap) and they do scams like that but not just for birthdays. They will call them at work and stuff too, some of them are so effing funny.

Anyways, I would probably be pissed in the beginning but then I would just laugh it off after an hour or so..

There's a local radio station here that has a similiar usual prank done every morning. It's entertaining to listen to. laugh.gif

I would do it to a friend of mine. I'd just have to choose someone who wouldn't be a bad sport about it and laugh it off when they found out.

If it were done to me, I'd be shocked and possibly a tad upset at first. But then I'd probably ask myself why I fell for such a thing and laugh about it.

I actually really, really, really dislike prank calls in general. I used to hang out with these girls who prank called people ALL THE FREAKING TIME, and once we made her cry and gahhhh my conscience was feeling so bad. I know that their jokes and their not supposed to be offensive and etc. etc. etc. But they do make those prank calls at the local station and I can't stand to listen to it

Meh... I don't know. I tend to just feel REALLY bad for the person. I'd probably be better if it were me, though.

I DO love Flirt Divert, though.

This is like...jam scam, or the nutcracker over here, but not on birthdays...I'd probably fall for it, then laugh it off at the end.

Well they go to a pretty extensive measure to make sure that no one has any personal information revealed, and nearly everyone I've heard everyone ends up saying "I'm gonna kill my boyfriend!" or "My son is going to have a clean room the rest of his life!" or something like that and they crack up laughing.

Power 106 does something similiar to that But its not on their birthday they just do it for the fun of it. I find it funny in the end. During it I'd probably be kind of pissed but I'll eventually find it funny.

my radio station used to do a thing called war of the roses. every wednesday, they would take someone who emailed them and bring them on the show. that person had suspected their significant other of cheating and that was the whole point of the gig. the lady on the show would call their significant other and pose a flower shop owner and explain they were new in town, and as an opening thing, they would send a dozen roses to anyone they chose. the point of it was to see who they would send it to and if it would be there significant other.

I'd work for this station and tell the person fake Harry Potter spoilers on their birthday.

sweet deal. they don't do it anymore because the morning show was transfered to seatle, but they now broadcast here from seatle in the afternoon instead. it sucks because now i can't stand the morning show.
