FIINNNIIIISSSSSHHHHHHEEEEEEEDDDDDDDD!
So totally LOVED it. I went to the midnight party and was within the first ten people to get the book SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. It took a HELLUVA lot longer to finish than I thought, and much of the book I read allowed to make sure I didn't skip over parts. I was, though, really really really saddened by all of the deaths. The death of Hedwig was a big blow, but even bigger was Dobby. Full-out sobbing at that point right there. Same goes with torturing of Hermoine. That was HUGE for me, as was the Ron screaming to help her. Still amazing glad that the three of them stuck it out - albeit Ron left for a little, but he came back! And of course, when he did it was magnificent. MAJOR kudos to Rowling from bringing EVERYONE back for the seventh book, I totally imagined the seventh movie and we just being utterly amazed - I love reunions like that. So I was wrong about Snape! And normally, I'd be dissatisfied when it doesn't go the way I thought it would :x but that was really good. I'd always known that he loved Lily - but I adored that entire Snape chapter. Really, really did. ALL HAIL THE GOOD SHIP. I screamed SCREAMED SCREAMED SCREAMED SCREAMED cries of joy when Ron and Hermoine kissed. And did a BIG victory dance. YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expected more from the epilogue, though. ): Wonderful story of Dumbledore's past. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HARRY POTTTERRRRR!!!!! |

I wish there were more books though. *sigh* Oh, and I was disappointed with the epilogue too. I thought it would be more detailed and longer. |

I really liked most of the book, but the ending left much to be desired.
I think it would have been a lot better without the epilogue... |

the epilogue was too...happy.
I was thrilled with Snape being good, and surprised by how much I loved Dumbledore despite his dark past. I was...confused by Harry going to "Heaven" and then coming back to life, but oh well. What was with that "baby"? My theory is that it was that piece of Voldemort's soul that was a part of Harry before it was destroyed. That's why Dumbledore said something like "you can't help it." |

As in similar to how Harry and what's her name.... the dreamy girl... oh, oh, Luna! How Harry and Luna were able to see the thestrals? I remember reading that they're able to see thestrals cuz they've suffered, as in like, Harry's parents dying and Luna's...was it mom's death?...or something like that. And thestrals have something to do with like...knowing their suffering. Sorry if it's a little vague. I haven't read HP in forever, but for some reason I remember that. Random rant: All the Marauder's are dead. This sucks. ![]() ![]() [spoiler]Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all related in the end!...and Ginny too! ![]() |

^ If you see someone die, then you can see the thestrals. Harry saw Cedric die and Luna saw her mom die.

Yeah, I didn't understand the 'doing magic late in life' thing, either
OMG TONKS AND LUPIN. OH EM EFF GEE. I bet those were the two deaths Rowling 'added' in... and Fred. Oh, poor Fred. And George's ear thing was just very unpleasant. DOBBY. That was the sweetest thing... And I LOATHE Rita Skeeter. I really, really do. |

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!
![]() ![]() Although all of the other deaths were extremely sad, I was expecting one of "the three" to die...it made the ending way too "and they lived happily ever after!" Come on, there's no way all of the "couples" stayed together. Too optimistic. (It would have been cool if Harry dumped Ginny and got with Luna...) And like, she could have gone over more than just them...people care about the others too. It was cool that Neville's a professor though, haha. |

Well..
I cried when hottie lupin and hottie tonks died i would have rather umbrige died that fat cow..anyhoot Something that made me laugh was the ending where James (Harrys son) finds Teddy (lupin and tonks' son) snogging victorie (bill and fleurs' daughter). And at least Malfoy and harry seemed to have some sort of mutual respect for eachother.Really happy ending although i wish she would do JUST ONE MORE. |

if i didnt read the sixth book will i still be able to read the last book? Reading the 6th book is important to better understanding the story. The 7th book is the direct continuation of the 6th book. Read it! or would i not be able to understand some of the things in the story? ![]() |

What was the significance of Harry's inherited eyes? Can't be sure but it's probably to do with Snape. Snape had always hated Harry because he was too much like his father but his eyes reminded him of Lily. Maybe he remained loyal to the promise of looking out for Harry because of that? Oh and his last word were 'Look at me..' Looking at Harry's eyes was the last thing he did.And who performed magic late in life? I'm confused about that one as well and I'm going to re-read it soon. |

Oyy, I went to one of the midnight parties at Barnes and Noble for the book, and it was madness. Then, I stayed up all night to finish the book.
Overall, I was satisfied. It was a nice conclusion to the whole series, but I will be sad that it is all over. Of course there are the movies to look forward to, but still... Anyways, I was really sad/upset at a lot of the deaths, but especially Dobby and Fred's. I cried when Harry dug Dobby's grave manually without magic. It really showed how much Dobby meant to Harry. I liked how Snape was a good man, through and through, and all because of his love for Lily. His death was an upsetting one, just by a snake bite. But, it's kinda ironic how he was the Potions Master and didn't have an antidote... Percy's reunion with him family was nice. But Fred's death also upset me =(. I had already read the Epilogue before the book was released via other spoilers, and thought that it would be impossible that Harry would give the name Severus son, but now it makes sense, and I like that. Re: someone doing magic later at life, perhaps Rowling was going to add that, but then decided to take it out? Because I don't remember that happening... but so much happened perhaps it slipped my mind. I am definitely going to read this book over again haha. |

But, it's kinda ironic how he was the Potions Master and didn't have an antidote... I wouldn't call it just a snake bite. This is Nagini we're talking about. And I doubt he'd carry an antidote for a snake bite with him.The epilogue was too happy and sappy for me. I read this somewhere else but I think it's pretty interesting as to how JKR didn't think of adding them in: -we also don't find out what happened to the rest of the weasleys, luna, hagrid or the other teachers. were the remaining death eaters vanquished? what happens to the ministry of magic? it felt a bit like fanfiction actually, with the next generation off to school and becoming friends with each other - we don't find out more about the different rooms at the department of mysteries, especially the veil and what those voices are - who performed magic late in life? ariana dumbledore was always magical, she just couldn't control her abilities. we don't see filch do anything except rush off to get peeves, and dudley showing his care [possibly love] for harry doesn't exactly EQUATE magical ability - what did the potters do for a living, especially lily? we're still clueless - how did dumbledore defeat grindelwald who had the elder wand? if that was the most powerful wand of all, and grindelwald and dumbly were close in magical ability and intelligence, wouldn't it have made more sense for grindelwald to win? |

I, too, squealed at the part where Hermione kisses Ron. GOOD SHIP GOOD SHIP GOOD SHIP! ![]() And I LOATHE Rita Skeeter. I really, really do. When Rowling said she'd back for the seventh I was like, Oh, God. And to atack DUMBLEDORE! Gawd.FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!! Second best sentence of the ENTIRE series.![]() ![]() Hedwig and Mad-Eye's deaths were brutal, I couldn't stand it. It was all happening so fast, and that was good, because it brought the reality of the situation... That first chapter was CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY. Really set an amazing tone for the entire book.I was terrified when George was injured, but he only lost his ear. I can't believe Fred died. Impossible. What happens to Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes? Can't be sure but it's probably to do with Snape. Snape had always hated Harry because he was too much like his father but his eyes reminded him of Lily. Maybe he remained loyal to the promise of looking out for Harry because of that? Oh and his last word were 'Look at me..' Looking at Harry's eyes was the last thing he did. Yeah, his eyes are definitely part of the reason Snape kept protecting him. His final act was to see Lily's eyes. ![]() Oyy, I went to one of the midnight parties at Barnes and Noble for the book, and it was madness. Oh, yes, pure blissful madness.Percy's reunion with him family was nice. I am definitely going to read this book over again haha. I KNEW he would redeem himself! <555 Weasleys -we also don't find out what happened to the rest of the weasleys, luna, hagrid or the other teachers. were the remaining death eaters vanquished? what happens to the ministry of magic? it felt a bit like fanfiction actually, with the next generation off to school and becoming friends with each other I am cheking mugglenet.com EVERY HOUR and hoping they've interviewed her. EVERY. HOUR.

I'm currently on page 337, of course I read the highlighted and am now dying to return to my book. Eep, so far this one of theeeee best books (of course has to be). Omg, i swear this book is so intense. I am just extremely HOPING that the movie doesn't disappoint me as much as the Order of the Pheonix movie did. I don't care if the last movie is 6 hours long, it better be good.
![]() The part at the beginning where Hagrid gets injured hella scared me I was like don't Kill off HAGRID! but he survived :D. Kreacher's Tale was such a good chapter it actually made me feel sorry for the house elf. |

this was the first book that actually made me cry. i loved it. Dumbledore was my favorite character because he was so much like this brillant, protective grandfather. At the beginning of the story, everyone was badmouthing him enough that even Harry died. Even Dumbledore's own brother hated him. When Harry finally learned the truth and saw how human and vunerable and heartbroken Dumbledore was, I literally started crying. I imagined him seeing the stone and getting all hopeful with the prospect of fixing all his wrongs. =( Though we learn that Dumbledore was like Percy except worse, I still love him. I agree that the epilogue was too sappy. In one chapter, you get this heavy sense of mourning/victory from the worry and then BAM! they're all happy and sending their kids off to school. I know it's an epilogue and kinda is separate... but it came off really cliche and fanfictiony. I thought the Snape/Lily thing was really touching. And I thought young Snape was really adorable. Flapping his arms and looking ridiculiously batlike. And Lily and Petunia before Petunia started hating her. It becomes obvious much of Petunia's hate is her own jealously - writing Dumbledore to get into the school. And Dudley's thank you to Harry was realistic and simple. This book was ridiculiously funny! George... "Holy, get it? Holey?" and Ron was brillant throughout the entire book. =) Sad that Remus, Tonks, and Fred died. But I think, all of them died at extremely happy points. Remus and Tonks finally got together and had a child. Aside from his friendships with Sirius and Remus, I don't think anything else has made Remus as happy as his marriage to Tonks and his son, Ted. Fred was laughing and rejoicing over Weasleys' reunion with Percy. So even if they did die, they didn't die unhappily. |

OMG IT'S OVER
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT GET OUT IF YOU ARE NOT FINISHED So anyways, I'm sick of highlighting everything, so I'm making another thread for people who have finished the book and want to discuss it without having to use the spoiler thinige. B/c they're not even really spoilers anymore. Who else thought it was great when Mrs. Weasley said "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" or when Kreacher hit Mundungus with the pan and asked if he could one more time, "just for luck." or when THE HORCRUX SPROUTED OUT HARRY AND HERMIONE hahaha or when George came up with the "holey" ear jokes Who else cried when Hedwig died? When Dobby died? When they made Dumbledore seem evil? (I actually put my book down and cried for like 15 minutes before I got back to reading) When Ron left?!?!!?! Unanswered questions: Who could perform magic later in life?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! Why wasn't the last word scar? Where did Sirius go?! WTF?! Wasn't he supposed to have a bigger role in this novel? What "worst memory" did Dudley experience when he was attacked by dementors in Order of the Phoenix? "All was well." A poem by Henry Scott Holland that should be looked at. http://www.wowzone.com/death.htm FAQ Who was the crying baby thing in the King's Cross chapter? Voldemort's soul that was part of Harry (I'm guessing) Why was Lily's and Harry's eyes so significant? Snape's love. Dumbledore even told Snape those exact details when Harry was born. Harry's eyes were necessary for Snape to conjure up the memories for Harry to see in the pensieve to carry on. Is Ron a PARSELTONGUE?! No, you f**ktards. Ron simply copied the hissing noises that Harry made to open up the locket. T_T Being a parseltongue means that you can fluently speak with snakes. Just like saying "konichiwa" doesn't mean you're fluent in Japanese. Did you notice? Voldy and Harry are distantly related. How awesome the Ravenclaw tower is?!?!?!?! Who dies? All the answers in this thread, haha http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...=180795&hl= |

That book was basically life changing.
I cried SO much throughout the course of the book. I cried whenever anyone died and when Ron left (?!?!?! it was stupid of him!!) and I even cried when everyone was attacking Dumbledore and saying he was a terrible person. That really broke my heart. Who else, though, is like in love with Snape now?? I'm telling you, I always knew he was good, and I kinda suspected the whole Lily thing, but now he is definetly one of my favorites. OH, and that LAST CHAPTER. Just beautiful and heartwarming. That also made me cry (I am a very emotional reader as you can see ![]() *SIGH*...if JK writes another Harry Potter book, however, I'll eat her. It ended so perfectly... |

I thought Ron was going to not come back and die out in the world somewhere. Me, too. I was like... "how the f**k can the series go on without RON?!" Edit: Slowly answering ThomasC's questions... So Snape was a double agent? Working for both Voldermort and Dumbledore... No. He was working for Dumbledore only. He was pretending to work for Voldemort... and I think it kind of goes with the "for the greater good" thing b/c he killed enough people as well. How was Draco the true master of the Elder Wand if Snape killed Dumbledore in book 6. Snape killed Dumbledore, yes. But Draco DISARMED the Elder Wand from Dumbledore, making Draco the true owner. The Elder Wand was taken from Dumbledore by Draco... therefore, it was not Snape's. Snape killed Dumbledore after the wand had been taken by Draco. Snape was also working for Dumbledore, which means the wand was working for Dumbledore... which means.. yeah. Why doen't the cover of the book look like the Great Hall, but a large Collesum? People are saying this is in the bright flash of light comes in and fills the Great Hall. The only real answer to this question is that it's up to the artists' interpretation. Who is the person that discover's magic late in life? Everyone that I read discovered it early No one knows for sure, but JKR did say this years ago. It may have been taken out by her editors. What happened to the Cup? Wasn't it on the end of the swrod when Griphook took it? Or did I just miss something... Yes, you did miss something. Ron and Hermione went into the Chamber of Secrets, took out the basilisk's fangs, and destroyed that horcrux (the cup). Why didn't Herminone tell them what the fire was? So they could just leave the diadem.. Once again, you missed something. She said she didn't realize it until AFTER the diadem fell apart. |

But man, oh man, Dobby... ![]() *I noticed! Thought it was a bit creepy because in COS, people thought Harry was a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, which would make him more closely related to Voldemort. Anyway, it was both cool and creepy. I wish we were told more about Sirius, I agree, and also of what Harry parents did, how Lupin and Tonks died, and I was hoping that Petunia would show a little more affection for Harry since shereally did care for him. It was Mr. Dursely who held her back. Dobby... ![]() |

Michelle, Harry knew cause he was in there when Dumbledore was killed...

A few things are still cloudy for me. So Snape was a double agent?
No, he was working for Dumbledore and only him. He pretended to be on Voldys side for Dumbly. How was Draco the true master of the Elder Wand if Snape killed Dumbledore in book 6. Cus Snape didn't kill him in a fight, and steal the power. He killed Dumbly cus Dumbly wanted him to. I think its cus Draco was the last one there around. Im not sure tho. Why doen't the cover of the book look like the Great Hall, but a large Collesum? Maybe cus the sky roof and all the damage done by the fight ? Who is the person that discover's magic late in life? Idono. Everyone that I read discovered it early What happened to the Cup? Hermione destroyed it. Wasn't it on the end of the swrod when Griphook took it? No Harry grabbed it Why didn't Herminone tell them what the fire was? So they could just leave the diedim.. Cus she didn't find out it was cursed fire til after. I have to re-read the book now. Then re-read the entire series. |

Fiendfyre is cursed fire which can destroy horcruxes.
Oh, the cover. Harry and Voldemort were circling each other during the final duel. Perhaps the artist just exaggerated that a bit? |

^ Agreed. I think it's safe to assume that the artist probably did not know the precise details of th eplot, for security reasons, as the cover art would have been prepared well in advance.

The background of the cover reminds me of King's Cross when Dumbledore and Harry meet up. Anyone else agree?

Someone once told me not to judge a book by it's cover. I didn't listen to them. Who thinks that the covers for 1-3 were better designed then the ones for 4-7? (not me..) I loved the fifth cover. shrug* I don't judge them, b/c they all make me think of Harry Potter. I'm guessing that the artist's own style and skill developed... it was through the course of thirteen years. Whaddya expect? Another unanswered FAQ: Was Ariana raped? |

What? Where does it indicate that Ariana was raped? Re-read where they discuss the part about the three muggle boys doing something to her and "damaging" her. It's very suggestive, and if so, JKR did it in a way that only more "mature" readers would have caught on. There is no proof, though. |

I don't think Rowling specifically says what happened to Ariana - but I definitely wouldn't cut rape from the list. she did go half-mad, after all.

Oh, Michelle: What explains why some people come back as ghosts? I think I remember Harry beginning to tell Ron something, I can't remember "they had unifinished business"(LOL CASPER) I don't remember reading any more information on that. Good question. JKR never answered that exactly*. I read somewhere it was only when people had a sad or unfinished ending. Nearly Headless Nick - Was nearly headless... couldn't join the headless hunt. :[ Grey Lady - died of sadness and shame of course. Bloody Baron - killed himself b/c he killed Ravenclaw's daughter, who he loved. No wonder he's so scary. |

Oh, well I guess that clears some things up. Who thought it was ironic that it was Aberforth in the mirror, rather than Dumbledore whom Harry thought it was? I did think it was pretty cool... I always wished it had to do with Sirius being behind the veil right next to Dumbledore. :( |

I think the ghost thing was all to do with what happend at Kings Cross, when Dumbledore offered Harry the choice (well, explained it to him) either to go back or to get on the train and see what comes next. Harry chose to go back, and because he wasn't strictly speaking dead, went back into his body. But if someone who had really died chose to go back, it would be as a ghost. *shrug*

Mundungus took the treasures from Kreacher and that was about the Slytherin locket. I can't really remember reading exactly how Aberforth received the mirror. I'm guessing it was Dumbledore.
As to who comes back as ghosts and who don't, I think that's discussed at the end of book 5 where Harry asks Nick how he was able to remain as a ghost. I looked at it just yesterday. Edit: Whoops, didn't see this page. I think it was in limbo as well since Dumbledore told Harry it may have been happening in his head, but it doesn't necessarily mean it isn't real. |

Dung probably was going through Sirius' house and found (among other shiny treasures) the mirror. He probably thought it was worth something and took it. Aberforth told Harry that he bought it from Dung and kept it because Dumbledore told him it was an enchanted mirror of Sirius' and that Harry had the second one. I think, JK Rowling didn't want to explain to far into things especially with the overwhelming amount of info in this book but Dumbledore told Harry that he had a choice to either move on or return to Earth. Since Harry was a special case, he (his soul) was able to return to his body but anyone else's soul would return to Earth without its body, therefore, becoming ghosts. |

What year like actual 19__A.D. does the book take place in? I'm guessing that his 17th year takes place in 1997-1998. Why would J.K.R. write all the books in her past? =| but who is Victoire? When she started writing the series, it was a long time ago. And the 7th book is in 1997-1998. |

I really wish she didn't kill of Tonks, Remus, and Fred :sob: . I definitely cried for about 1/2 the book. I do like that Snape ended up "good" and it was interesting to learn more about the three (Snape, Lily, James) when they were younger. Honestly, James was pretty cruel to Snape.
Also, I would have liked to see Neville and Luna together in the end, both professors @ Hogwarts. In the 5th movie, the two actors had great chemistry as well as in the books. |

I think Luna and DEAN end up together. :chokes: EDIT- Considering no one has commented on this, I think that I am going to post it so that you can all read it. It seriously goes with the book (whether JKR intended it to or not) QUOTE Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you; whatever we were to each other, that, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used, put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we shared together. Let my name ever be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. |

That poem describes a few situations in HP. Perhaps she found that as inspiration? It doesn't seem to be a mere coincidence to me but it's not a big deal.
Did we ever get a proper explanation of how Harry's wand was able to perform its own spell (the one with golden flames) during his first encounter with Voldemort? Ollivander didn't know and I don't remember if Dumbledore explained it. |

I like how in every single one of the books (except, obviously, book 6) Dumbledore and Harry have a long talk, usually explaining things. Yeah, it became a ritual of sorts. I was wondering if something like that was going to happen in this one. I'm relly glad it did!I think it was touched upon that its the Wizard, not the wand. I'm going to re-read the "King's Cross" & "A Flaw In The Plan" chapters. But he didn't didn't even know the spell (the incantation) and had never produced gold flames from his wand. He was able to break Lucius Malfoy's wand in two.

Oh, and about the Parseltongue analogy.. Parseltongue is a language so I suppose it can be learnt but Harry just knew it. He wasn't taught it. Spells are taught so it's not as if he would have been able to 'recall' it. |

i just finished the book, oh i'm so sad, it's pathetic. no more harry potter. i feel all empty + hollow. lol, well i really liked the book. i was literally on the edge of my seat most of the time
![]() anyways the epilogue was [so heartwarming] but kind of unexpected. i mean it was so happy and everything. i really expected the ending to be a little more dark? and i also would have wanted to know what happened to everyone else =/ but i'm so glad that ron and hermione FINALLY got together!!! and harry and ginny of course. that was so incredibly sweet when ginny gave him a birthday kiss xD and snape being "good." that came as a BIG shock for me, lol. but how he was in love with lily and everything...all i can say is WOW! theres a lot of unexplained things though, still. i wish things would have been explained more thoroughly. but anyways, overall, i loved the book =] can't wait for the movie to come out. |

Ollivander didn't know and I don't remember if Dumbledore explained it. Dumbledore couldn't really explain it. He knew that Harry and Voldemort were bounded by extraordinary magic. Also, the two of them are connected because Voldemort has Harry's blood in him and Harry has a bit of Voldemort's soul in him. Then, they sealed this connection by dueling each other with brother wands. So Harry's wand recognized that its owner had a bit of the person who it tried to duel. The wand recognized both Harry and Voldemort's souls and fired off. |

I'm not sure if it was a proper explanation, but it was an educated guess by Dumbledore... and he is THE man. :P It was in the King's Cross chapter. The epi. leaves me wondering; what are their respective jobs? I mean, how does one go from "the boy who lived" to a normal life? How is George coping without Fred, let alone the rest of the Weasley's? I want more about Teddy, and how old is Bill & Fleur's daughter (Teddy is 19)? etc etc

He wasn't at Hogwarts Express to go to Hogwarts, he was just there seeing off his godbrothers...right? That makes the most sense, anyways.
