Whenever i sweat a lot, why do I secrete white minerals from my pores?
Are they salt, sugar, or whatever? They look like white grainy outlining my sweat spot on my clothes. I hate it. What is it, really? |

Moved to Health.
*proceeds to figure an answer* QUOTE Sweat consists of water, salt, and other chemicals produced and excreted from the body. I'm guessing that it is salt that is secreted from your sweat pores.

Maybe that's why I taste so salty when I'm sweaty.
Mmm. True story: During marching band practice, I used to lick my arms / back of my hands when I was hungry b/c I was so deliciously salty. hahahahaha ew. |

What is it, really? Salt/Fat. Drink more water please, you're dehydrated... technically speaking. Drink 1 gallon of water a day... at least. Lets put it this way, right now if you were to run outside for a few miles... you'd most likely lock your muscles up (cramped muscles) to the point you'd collapse and can't move... literally you'd try to move and it would be the most painful torment ever... |

Yeah, everyone should drink ALOT of water. But, 1 gallon is pretty hard. ![]() |

^ I don't drink a gallon, but I'm not a sweaty boy or a lover of overexerting my delicate self.
I drink anywhere from 3 to 6 pints a day. |

^ I don't drink a gallon, but I'm not a sweaty boy or a lover of overexerting my delicate self. I drink anywhere from 3 to 6 pints a day. Ok.. I understand that. I only mention bumping up the water intake because if you're sweating and it's not clear (whitish) it's because you're dehydrated, it's not an "extreme" dehydration, unless you go off and do cardio. It's a serious dehydration, even though you think you don't feel odd. So as a nutritionist (not my title, but I have the knowledge of) my recommendation to hydrate, cool down the body, and dilute the body of toxins (such as sodium/salt) is to drink a cup of water an hour... If you were to find water to be boring and you dislike it, then I'd recommend Gatorade (something with electrolytes, even beer is helpful oddly) But again, if you feel fine just drinkin 3-6 pints, that's fine. I'm just saying it's healthier to drink a minimum of a gallon a day. When I go to the gym... I drink a minimum of 2 gallons in that day. My off days I drink a gallon or more. Water is very powerful, even thought it doesn't have vitamins. Benefits Of Water #2 Anyways, Fist... do yourself a favor, and do a little research. You'll understand what I'm speaking about if you take some time to learn the human anatomy and the nutrients it needs. On that note, it's almost 6AM and it's time for me to hit the gym and do my morning cardio :) |

Before, I played a sport for 4 1/2 hours from Monday through Friday. Now, i play once/twice a week. I don't get cram ... but I feel a lot weaker, less fit, and tight though. The last time I got cram was like... two weeks ago, it lasted 5 minutes. And, i had a hard time with class that deals with math. It’s hard to focus. i AM dehydrating. The descriptions in the website fit my situation. No wonder, I don’t feel like playing. I should cut my sodium/sugar intake? |

Wow. ![]() kidding, but thanks alot, man. No problem Fist, I know I can be a dick sometimes, but I'd like to help someone out when I know for a fact they're in a nutritional situation. Just lookin out for ya ![]() QUOTE I drink a bottle of water every day. Try to drink more, the main argument I read/hear is that water has no flavor and it's boring to drink. Well water is free and it's something we need in order to function properly (technically speaking if someone was well hydrated since childhood, it would be a rare case for them to get sick or even develop a disease of any sort, including cancer) Try today, to drink 1 coffee cup of water an hour, just for today, and yes you'll be going to the bathroom a lot since your body has to readjust itself to the water intake. You should start feeling better tomorrow. QUOTE Before, I played a sport for 4 1/2 hours from Monday through Friday. Now, i play once/twice a week. Especially if you're active in sports, you need H20, if not H20... electrolytes (Gatorade). Your body is naturally balanced, in every aspect, especially mass to liquid. On top of that, I bet if you drank 1 cup every hour, everyday for 1 week... you're gonna feel thinner and a lot more energetic. QUOTE I don't get cram ... but I feel a lot weaker, less fit, and tight though. The last time I got cram was like... two weeks ago, it lasted 5 minutes. A way to realize you're dehydrated, but not to the point of cramping is; if you're flexible and you become dehydrated, your flexibility changes and becomes more poor. Right now there's a study being done on this because as of now, from my understanding nutritionists are starting to figure out the newest benefits, including flexibility. Supposedly if you're well hydrated, you're able to become flexible a lot easier than someone who's some-what hydrated or dehydrated. QUOTE And, i had a hard time with class that deals with math. It’s hard to focus. i AM dehydrating. The descriptions in the website fit my situation. No wonder, I don’t feel like playing. Dehydration definitely screws with your head. I dunno if you know all the "symptoms" of dehydration, but the first part of your body to react, is your brain. Because your brain is working to regulate/balance your body. It works so hard that it start to ruin your thinkin pattern, such as concentration. QUOTE I should cut my sodium/sugar intake? For the sake of hydration, stay away from sodium/salt. Try not to have sugar past 2-3 in the afternoon, at least for a week. No splenda, no white sugar. Only fructose (fruits) or brown sugar/cane sugar. Also, if you can, avoid fried foods. The grease is even worst than salt. At least for a week. All you want to do is to regulate your body and it should take at least 1 week to start its process. This should help you out a lot, I promise if you stick with it for at least a week, you'll feel a heck of a lot better and you'll most likely stick with it. I did... I saw/felt the proof of the powers of H20 and now that's all I like to drink other than orange juice ![]() Good luck! If you have any other questions what so ever, just ask it... I'll try my best to answer them for ya. |
