have you seen those commericials with the pc and the mac? who always wins? mac. get a mac! And the best part is, in those commercials the PC guy always explains himself as to why he sucks (speaking of Windows) My favorite is the one with all the guys on a cart, and they all have windows error/viruses/symptoms. Mac and Linux > windows :D |

have you seen those commericials with the pc and the mac? who always wins? mac. get a mac! Thats the worst word of advice I have ever herd in my life. The commercials are biaist, and half of them are exaggerated lies anyway. The word on the streets is that Macs are better at editing photos and videos, I own a iBook, and have to say as for editing photos, its a little over exaggerated. I have noticed no big difference between a Mac and a Windows PC on the photo editing side, I use Lightroom and Photoshop, which work on both Windows and Macintosh OSX. I have found that the LCD's on Mac laptops show black a little bit better, but that is about it. Stability wise, who ever tells you that Macs NEVER crash are Liars. They crash just as often as my Vista PC. The highlight on the Windows side now with Vista is that if you are editing a photo and for some reason Photoshop or the program you are using crashes, it save a copy of it so that when you restart the program you can restart. The new Mac OS that is in development has this I think, from what I read. Macs have iLife though, but the Adobe Suite for Windows and Mac is much better than all the iSofware crap you get. For categorizing, I have both Lightroom and Aperture, and I have to say that Lightroom, on both my iBook and my Vista machine own Aperture. It has so much more to offer. It runs kind of laggish on my Mac though, which almost any program does because I only have half a gig of ram on my iBook and paid almost $2,500 for it. When my PC has almost 4 gigs of ram and only cost me $3,000. If you are looking to spend a lot for nothing, get a Macintosh. If you are looking for a bang for your buck get a Lenovo Thinkpad or a Acer laptop. Thnkpads have been around since DOS, and they have perfected the laptop industry, they make the best notebooks on this earth. |

Thats the worst word of advice I have ever herd in my life. The commercials are biaist, and half of them are exaggerated lies anyway. Exaggerated? LOL Microshit Windows, SUCKS. That's a given. The worst operating system in the world. And the sad thing is, people are willing to spend $200+ for an operating system that doesn't have any security. Has a horrible embedded firewall. There is no such thing as privacy lol The operating systems ALWAYS have bugs, you would think they'd take their time to perfect it. Instead of pushing out weight trying to make a million dollars a day by bumpin up the price of a plain old operating with a service pack already included. Windows can't even protect you from hackers, viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, popups, malware, and other malicious attacks. And you're gonna claim that there's programs for all of that, right? They aren't even trustworthy. Malicious attacks can come in many different forms, and no products out there for the Windows can stop 100% of the attacks. And all it takes is one privacy exposing attack that will have your personal life out in the world, including your full name, address, phone numbers, IP address, Mac address, credit card number etc.. Everything in those commercials are NOT exaggerated, do you even know the difference other than how they're operated and their GUIs? Do you know the operating power of the two? Mac... by far is more worthy/valuable. Edit, we're speaking of operating systems here. Not machines. Overall Mac > Windows. You can even use Windows software on Mac, so it's all good :P And the only reason why I question your knowing of Mac and Windows is because everyone in the Computing engineering field knows that Mac has done 20 times better than the Windows. People want, security, privacy, reliability, durability, performance, and eyecandy GUI. And you're justifying your answer with the cost. I gotta find a site for you. Which proves that memory of a Mac is almost 2 times faster than the memory you'd use on a PC. That's all that matters for memory, speed and memory size. Heck I'm runnin Linux w/ Beryl and it runs faster/smoother and more powerful than Vista. Vista is horrible! And I only have 1GB of ram, I haven't even done my bi-yearly upgrade. I installed Vista, and I couldn't even change the theme because it would crash. I couldn't even drag the opened windows around because I would get a memory/cpu spike and start to get VERY laggy. Linux + Beryl mutilates Vista. And Microsoft stole those ideas, they're not even original for God sakes. Vista Aero = lame. |

note that if your end result is going to be a website, it would be helpful to have IE to view it in, since that's what most people use.
Both macs and PCs are basically the same. With macs you pay a premium for style- but then again you would pay a premium for a sony vaio too, although not as much. don't listen to anyone who tells you the other system sucks. They're wrong. But both systems have different merits, and you just need to choose the one that suits you. however, i will comment, that when money is an issue, PCs do give you more. |

Linux + Beryl mutilates Vista. And Microsoft stole those ideas, they're not even original for God sakes. Vista Aero = lame. Windows cant protect against hackers, I will give you my IP. Can't protect against Virus's, I have been running Windows since the launch of Winodws 95 and have never ran one Anti Virus or Spy Ware protection on my os's, and I am one that loves music if you know what I mean. Really, everything in those commercials are not exaggerated? How about the one with updates? You do realize that when you preorder a PC such as a Dell, the OS is installed the day it is shipped, and updates are ran off a in house server. So, the computer is ready to go once it hits your doorstep. The one about installed software that you didn't order, Microsoft doesn't do that, Dell, Gateway and or manufactures of the PC do that, yet they fail to mention that. The bloated one, Microsoft does not install ANY software that is a trial and or has to be purchase on the side. The manufacture does that, but once again they fail to mention that. I also completely LOVE the one about the surgery, it basically says that mac does not innovate. So what if you have to upgrade or get a new pc, don't like it, dont buy the damn OS. You could just buy a MAC and be stuck with the same shit, just a new look with every release. U also love the fact that you don't buy a whole new OS when they create say Mac OSX Tiger, its just a few updates. Like a service pack, that you have to pay for. Also, the security one, that can be turned off. The Virus one, I am living proof that its not true, I have no ran a AV on this PC... Ever, nor my laptop, nor my old desktop. Actually, I don't think I have ever ran one since Windows 95 when we had a Dell. There ARE viruses out for Macintosh, they just dont go around as fast, because less than 10% of the entire computer world uses a Macintosh OS. As for money, Microsoft could live without it. They have billions in the bank, and all their employees could retire with over a million dollars per person with the amount of money they have in the bank. Also, if we are going to argue the GUI, Apple didn't invent it, I thought you could use that bit of information. So its as if Apple is bitching about something Microsoft stole, but yet Apple stole it to begin with? What is amazing, is you are arguing security, and the United States government (military records and medical records), and banking system runs NOTHING BUT WINDOWS SERVERS AND DESKTOPS. Funny how they have never once had a leak of medical and or military records, or banking information. So I guess its not too bad. As I stated above, I will GIVE you my IP so you can attempt to hack my system since its just so possible. The problem is, you have to get past the router first. Which is why large companies don't WORRY about security when it comes to Windows. Cisco can stop a threat before it enters the building. If it is in the network, guess what.... Vista Business edition stops it before it leaves the nic card. Not Norton or McAfee, VISTA does. I also find it hilarious and a ALL TIME LOW, that Apple would design their OS so that Windows, their competition can run on it. Microsoft has nothing to worry about, with 90% of the market, Mac OS's and Linux will take a while to take over the market. They have been sharing 10% of the market for a while, and will be for quite some time. Also, maybe you should upgrade, a gig of ram is low now a days. Most low end PCs come with a gig of ram. |

Anyone think otherwise. ![]() In that case, you'd probably enjoy a Mac more. I'm a Windows user, mostly, because I'm used to the interface, and I can get done what I need done. I'm not a heavy gamer, but the sim racing program I race only uses Windows, so I'm sticking with it for a while. For web surfing, designing, video editing, managing photos, and the like, Macs seem to be superior. I used to work with iBooks daily in school; they were useful, efficient little things. Get an Apple notebook, if possible -- I've heard nothing but good things (price aside). |

Can't protect against Virus's, I have been running Windows since the launch of Winodws 95 and have never ran one Anti Virus or Spy Ware protection on my os's, and I am one that loves music if you know what I mean. Ha that's cute. Just because your PC doesn't tell you that your machine isn't infected doesn't mean your PC is free from Viruses. You can even give me your proxy server's IP and it would take me less than a day. Windows has to be updated for endless bugs, even AFTER you receive your PC. Windows is always going to have bugs, technology is always going to move on faster than an operating system. Thus needing updates for windows, such as security patches, browser updates (Internet Explorer), device driver updates, and lastly (which also includes updated drivers) Service packs. Why is that? Because it's not an open source operating system, such as Linux, where upgrades are rare, all you have to do is compile the software. Also that's enlightening the whole idea that Microsoft does not control the installation of "trial Microsoft software/programs". Could you site that? A legit source, such as Microsoft? Or the PC manufacturers? I also completely LOVE the one about the surgery, it basically says that mac does not innovate. So what if you have to upgrade or get a new pc, don't like it, dont buy the damn OS. You could just buy a MAC and be stuck with the same shit, just a new look with every release. U also love the fact that you don't buy a whole new OS when they create say Mac OSX Tiger, its just a few updates. Like a service pack, that you have to pay for. I'm confused as to what you mean about the surgery commercial. What MAC DOESN'T change is their file system. Everything else is customizable. Such as compiz for eye candy which is like beryl or the aero from Vista (which in fact did steal the idea from non-profit developers). The only reason why MAC doesn't change their file system is because it is stable. You get no errors unless you some how were able to screw something up... which is rare unless it is purposely done. Do you realize your claim is out of this solar system retardedly a lie. Guy... you can easily get a virus just from typing www.goggle.com, and plenty of spyware. All a virus has to do is upload into your harddrive, a website you go to can pretend it's uploading a small file called a batch file (which you'll see on the bottom right of your window) and that's it. Next time you restart your machine, at start up, the batch file runs a series of commands that modifies your machine's operating system. Such as disabling/enabling option, deletion of files, creation of random named files, copying of files and sending it via remote PC/Desktop. All of this can happen in the background without your knowledge. I'm sorry guy, but the probability of a Microsoft Windows Operating System to get infected by malicious attacks such as malware, spyware, trojans, viruses, pop ups etc... is ridiculously high. Hell it's so ridiculous that people are starting to question the AV companies out there. People are starting to think that it's all a scam for AV companies to make free money. Apple had the GUI, not the Eyecandy, like Aero. Aero was an idea stolen from non-profit developers of linux... definitely NOT MAC. What is amazing, is you are arguing security, and the United States government (military records and medical records), and banking system runs NOTHING BUT WINDOWS SERVERS AND DESKTOPS. Funny how they have never once had a leak of medical and or military records, or banking information. So I guess its not too bad. This is the most laughable argument. Homie... Banks, such as Bank of America, credit card companies such as Capital One, Hospitals, Universities, even the damn MEPs in Miami uses UNIX for their servers/networks. Why? Because it is 100% secure. Not even a cracker program can crack a password. If it wasn't for UNIX, WEP Encryption wouldn't even exist. UNIX is the master of security and reliability. LOL VISTA. I can make a Webpage, to command your VISTA to delete all system folders... VISTA is pathetic and so are the fans. And I highly DOUBT you have a cisco router/switch. By the way... I'm a Network Engineer, I've had my CCNA since I was 20 years old. I've worked on corporate buildings for weeks at a time. Spending 60 hours a week on sites installing networks. For companies such as Coco Cola, Bank of America, a Land Surveying company, Capital One up in Orlando, which is a 3 hour drive from job/home. I also find it hilarious and a ALL TIME LOW, that Apple would design their OS so that Windows, their competition can run on it. That's actually a smart move. The true reason why that was done was for video game compatibilities. But Developers saw the bigger picture of things. Microsoft has nothing to worry about, with 90% of the market, Mac OS's and Linux will take a while to take over the market. They have been sharing 10% of the market for a while, and will be for quite some time. The thing about Linux... it's never been sold. The server edition of Linux though is about $20 with shipping. Linux is an open source, freeware operating system. The only money they ask for is donations. Still Mac and especially Linux is more secure, reliable, and problem-free. Also, maybe you should upgrade, a gig of ram is low now a days. Most low end PCs come with a gig of ram. LOL Low end? I custom built my machine last year, 1GB of RAM in Linux is like 4gb in Vista. 1GB of RAM surpasses the performance needed for Linux to fully run with many powerful applications opened, hell not even Photoshop makes a dent onto the processor when I drag items around. In fact my processor only gets used up to 15% when playing video games. Cache memory is about 120MB out of 1024MB. Sorry bud, but technically, I don't need to upgrade my RAM, but I will by the end of this year because I do upgrades every two years. And I'm only bumpin it up to 2GB of RAM. |

I run Ubuntu Gnome which isn't a server edition. What Linux servers do you run? Can you show me one of your webservers that's run by your linux server? ![]() Questioning my Computer knowledge? I question yours with the fact you made claims that I know you lied about. And the idea that banks and other corporate companies use Windows as a secure and reliable server. It's probably better to question all his "knowledge" Test me. A Mac is better for the "designer", the "movie maker" etc. which is what you seem like. A slightly different OS but it's also a lot less prone to bugs and viruses, unlike Windows.
