i heard a story the other day about i guy at an interview to get into college.. the guy asked him if he had a myspace/facebook.. the guy said he had a facebook. the interviewer asks him to show him it, on his laptop that he pulled out from underhis desk.. he then wasn't the guy he described as..

he told the interviewer he was very realigious, and went to church every week, and that he didn't party or drink..

after pulling up his facebook, he notices pictures of the guy drunk with his friends, and is then not let into the college..

did you guys hear about this?

I haven't heard of that specific incident, but I've heard of college interviewers checking applicants' MySpaces or sites.

It's kind of weird. blink.gif

Yeah, I heard about it. Didn't this happen a while ago, though?

I think there was a similar incident where a woman couldn't get a job or had her job taken away because there were pictures of her drinking on her MySpace.

Such stories have been going on for a while. I've heard of this happening in Canada as well. You have to be careful of what you put up and just be honest, really.

not that specific one..but i've heard of all the consequences of myspace/facebook...i mean, its not that they are bad, but you need to be careful about what personal info or pics u put on it, cause colleges could find out and not accept you

Yeah I've heard stories of people getting kicked out of school and whatnot for their antics and pictures on Facebook/Myspace. I'd be careful if I were you...

A lot of colleges are starting to screen their applicants via Facebook and Myspace now. Just don't have obnoxious/ridiculous pictures up there, and you'll be fine.

Wow blink.gif Thats kinda clever... but pretty intrusive pinch.gif

Guess it weeds out the liars from the honest people though.

How is that intrusive? Information and photos that you put onto the Internet are public domain.

I agree.

Also, the public domain thing is true.

Pretty good way to make sure your employees are..honest.

Do you have a specific article on this on a news' website?

The problem with checking applicants' websites is that it is debatable whether the website can truly depict a person.

I think that's kind of odd. But I wouldn't lie anyways, and if they do ever check, it would just prove that I'm actually honest.

But I wouldn't think there's any harm to it, unless if the college interviewers are like drooling over your pictures and add you under an alias. lol

I don't think this was right, it was like invasion of privacy.
even though facebook is public, that shouldn't affect any type
of interview that you have.

i think they kinda do use popular blogs/profiles online to check on students. a kid in my school got into a west coast school and let his average drop from 90s to like 70s. he blogged about it and the college found out. his acceptance was recinded.

another kid blogged that his average was near 50s and nearly got his acceptance to mount holyoke recinded.

i've heard stories of colleges who had students show them incriminating pictures of other students doing bad stuff on school property.
