Due to an undisclosed "medical condition," Paris Hilton has been reassigned from jail to her home, where she will wear an electronic monitoring device.

"She was not released, she was reassigned," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. spokesperson Steve Whitmore said at a press conference Thursday.

He would not provide further details about the medical condition, citing privacy laws. He did not know if the condition was pre-existing, but said the decision was made after "extensive consultation" with medical personnel.

Whitmore said Hilton was released shortly after midnight on Thursday: "She was transported out of here by us, there was a transference to her attorney, and then she was taken home."

Hilton has been credited with five days of time served and will spend the remaining 40 days of her 45-day sentence confined to her home wearing an ankle bracelet with a range of 3,000-4,000 square feet.

Asked whether she would be confined completely, Whitmore said: "There's some fudge with that. If someone goes and gets their mail, if they're 30 minutes outside, that's okay. It's a complicated electronic situation."

Whitmore said the sheriff's department is not concerned with appearing to be soft on the celebrity inmate. "It doesn't matter how we look, really," he said. "We just hopefully do our job and do it professionally, with a sense of humanity."

TMZ.com reported Thursday morning that Hilton had been released early Thursday.

Hilton, 26, began her sentence Sunday night at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, south of Los Angeles.

The heiress was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license. Amid speculation that she would actually serve much less time due to prison overcrowding, police said she would spend at least 23 days behind bars.

this seriously makes me extrememly angry. she should be treated like a normal person. and not a celeb. if any one of us had a "medical condition," they wouldnt send us back home. we'd be sitting in our jail cells: rotting.

Damn it. Her getting sent home is like a vacation. and 3000-4000 feet. She probably doesn't do that much walking around anyways.

That is extremely angering to hear. This means that for forty days she gets to be at home and chill in luxury. How stupid.

I don't understand why they didn't put her ass on house arrest in the first place. At least they lengthened the sentence to the time she was originally supposed to serve.

Eh, it's dumb that she always gets special treatment, but what can ya do? I thought it was so funny how Sarah Silverman made fun of her at the beginning of the MTV Movies Awards. Paris was not happy.

^Agreed.

In my opinion I think they are feeding her with a silver spoon. Just because she's a celebrity doesn't mean that she should be treated that way in jail because she's no better than anyone else when she's in jail. Because they're all in the same damn place. If Paris Hilton can go home because she has some undescribed "medical condition" then hell all the rest of the people in jail should be able to go home too if they get sick. I believe she's faking just so she can take her ass home. She better be glad that they even let her go home.

SO EFFING PATHETIC.

God, no wonder our country is so effed up. We have people buying themselves out of jail. For christ's sake, PUT HER ASS BACK IN JAIL.

Paris is so spoiled. Other people confined in that prison don't have that pleasure of just leaving.

Clearly the reason our country is "so effed up" is because people are put on house arrest after committing a crime with no malicious intent or physical harm to others.

Not saying I support her house arrest decision, just saying that that's no where near the issues our wonderful country is having.

verymad.gif WTF? She should get her butt back in jail. She doesn`t deserve any special treatment. I don`t even believe she has a 'medical condition'. PSHH`, instead of rotting in jail, she gets a vacation in her luxurious home; THAT`S BULL- hammer.gif

I think that this is BS. Why should celebs be treated any differently than us? We are all the same. Instead of being rascist against religion or color people are being rascist against whether or not you are a celeb. If you arent a celeb then tough shizz your going to be treated like crap and if you get into trouble you are going to have to deal with the consequences.. but if you are a celeb you get treated like a queen and you dont get punished for your actions. It's ridiculous what these days are coming down to.

im not saying it isnt fair or that she isnt faking it but i do have to add that some people are allowed to serve the rest of their time at home for similar reasons.

i had a friend who got out of jail (he was sentenced to jail because of some DUI's) and was transfered to house arrest (sorta) because no one could take care of his mother who was diagnosed with cancer a week after he got there. It's just him and his mom, they have no other family or support, so they didnt have enough money to cover her treatment even with insurance and state aid, so he had to be released so he could work during the day and then he was under house arrest during the evening. Every other weekend he had to go back to his cell in jail.

Paris Hilton going to jail is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. It's not that jail cannot keep her because she's a celebrity, but the fact that she was jailed for what? Driving with a suspended license?? It's like the public wants to see her in jail. You guys will not believe what Al Capone got sent to Alcatraz for.

I don't even see what is so wrong with Paris. Since you guys believe she should be treated like any of us, why is she not? Why does everyone judge her because of that sex tape? Because of how dumb she is? If anyone has watched it, I'm sure average Americans everyday engage in that kind of stuff. Average Americans are just as stupid, if not more. It's the fact that she is a celebrity the public seperates her from us, but when she goes to jail they want her to be the same.

er, well she did have multiple DUI's which is why she had a suspended license in the first place. Usually you dont just get your license suspended after your 2nd DUI. You just goto jail. She's actually been getting it easy.
