Feel free to move this. After I made this topic, I realized that it might fit in Relationships instead..?
Okay. Well my friend's in 9th grade and she weighs 80 pounds. That's REALLY skinny for a freshman. Everyday at lunch, she goes like "Ohhh! I wish I was skinnier! I'm so fat!" and it's NOT true. She's one of the skinniest people in our grade. Yesterday, she told me that she was looking at the models in a magazine. She told me "OMG! Their legs are so skinny! I actually measured their legs against mine and I'm so fat compared to theirs! I should go on a diet!" Umm, no. Whenever she looks at a model she compares her weight to theirs. Sometimes she says, "I should go on a diet. I eat like a pig." Which is NOT true. There's this really skinny girl in my grade, and my friend stares at her and constantly tells me that the girl's so skinny, she's jealous of her, she wants to be like that, blah blah blah. I'm getting sick of it. I keep telling her that she should GAIN some weight instead of losing it, but she refuses to listen to me. What can I do to make her realize that she's NOT FAT? Oh, and if I tell her something about "how bad it is to be too skinny", she'd act like whateve I said wasn't true/wouldn't care. |

i have a friend like that too. she doesnt eat.
i bent over backwards to get the message across, but she never listened. so eventually i just snapped (not saying its a good thing) i think i shrieked "YEAH, YOU ARE SOOOO FAT. THATS WHY EVERY GIRL IN THE F***ING GRADE WANTS TO LOOK LIKE YOU. WHAT THE HELL? USE YOUR MOUTH FOR EATING INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING.!!!!" i don't think it made her look at herself better, but at least she doesnt complain anymore. i mean, she was bringing EVERY girl down, especially since pretty much all her friends are chubbier. she made girls weighing 110 feel like giants. so i dont know. tell her as it is... |

sounds like she's anorexic. that's a whole mental issue, like no matter what, she's probably still going to think of herself as fat. i mean, i guess you can try to persuade her otherwise, but i doubt it'll work really. sorry, i'm hella pessimistic.

Yeah, she sounds anorexic. Do you know her parents? Maybe you should tell them what she says and how she acts at school. It sounds like she might need to see a psychiatrist.

It already sounds like she has the whole anorexia mentality, whether or not she's actually not eating. I'd warn her parents soon, so they're aware of the issue before anything bad happens... |

How tall is she? I think she's about 5'1. yeah, she's probably anorexic. but how much does she eat? If her mom packs her lunch, she eats like only half of it and "claims" that she's full. She doesn't starve herself though. ---- I'd warn her parents soon, so they're aware of the issue before anything bad happens... I don't think her parents will believe me, because she whenever she brings the rest of her lunch from school, she tells them that she was TOO full and couldn't eat. They believe her.. |

I'm actually like (or was like) her myself. I was like that in the 9th grade too. I still am when it comes to comparing , but I'm not as bad as your friend. To tell you the truth its a habit. Once you start comparing yourself sometimes it becomes just a common thing. Just because she only eats half doesn't mean she has an eating disorder. Its possible, but trust me sometimes you just can't eat a lot. Personally, I would highly suggest just supporting her for what she feels. I know its annoying when people (I myself included) goes "OMG i'm so fat" or "I'm so fat compared to them" or "GEEZ , I need to loose weight", but really just let her be herself. If she starts taking things the wrong way and you can feel she has some sort of disorder then I suggest you do something about it. If she starts loosing a lot of weight do something about it or talk to her parents or something.
But really a lot of girls go throught it. Its kind of a common thing. |

Well, as long as she's eating, there's not really much to worry about. Hell, I go around bitching about weight that I need to lose.

i agree with anyone who said it was anorexia. maybe you should talk to her parents so they can try and figure out what's really going on. it sounds like she really needs help. |

I hate girls like that. I'm pretty sure, that she's saying she's fat, because she likes hearing she's not fat. I used to do it. But, my boyfriend got sick of it, hah.
I did the same thing someone said up there. One of my friends that actually was chubby, kept saying she should lose weight, over, and over again, just so I said, she didn't need to. I finally gave up, and said we should go on a diet together. She didn't know how to react. |

Yup. I have several friends exactly like her. But the whole 'i am fat' thing, is common in most girls. Many girls will think they are fatter than they are. I always feel fat. That's just a part of life. Unless she stops eating, then don't worry:) |

It might be her just wanting attention.
Maybe. Tell her she's not fat an at her age she is suppose to still have a little fat on her anyway cause she is growing. |

Anorexia is a mental disease; she probably cannot see for herself that she is already under-weight. I'm not sure how you can help her, but I suggest finding another way other than telling her that she's not fat.

haha that reminds me of myself when i was a freshmen and that time...was really a bad moment for me that i really regret to do when i was just a stupid 9th grader but anywayyyy... just tell her that shes not fat, she pratically weighs about 80 right?? thats kinda not healthy, and if she goes lower than that then she will end up being anorexic or probably byllemic(however you spell that) but dude... being TOO skinny=NOT HEALTHY
