I'm not very happy with my body right now and am looking for a definite change. I'd like to lose a few pounds here and there. I'm going vegetarian with my dad and my parents are going on Weight Watchers, so I'll probably indirectly be a part of that. So I have the diet down, but I need to excercise more. I own a treadmill but I find it SO boring to run on, even while watching TV. I'd much prefer running outside but I'm embarassed to... I'm a good runner but I'm always paranoid I'll run into someone I know and they'll be like, "Good idea, you definitely need to work out." or something like that. Anybody have any solutions to my dilemma?

You can't keep running from what you're trying to find.

You can always go biking? It's not as obvious that you're doing it to exercise.

Change up the speeds on your treadmill if you haven't tried that yet. Maybe you can try swimming?

Swimming is really good, it burns the same amount of calories as a person who runs a 6 or 7 miles and it works out alot of your muscles since your using all of the parts of your body. Go to a pool gym or something if you're scared that you'll run into someone. Or you can over to a friend's house (a friend that you can trust and are comfortable with) if they have a swimming pool. It's always comforting to have a buddy with you. Good luck :]

Well there are places like Womens Workout world and Curves that only allow for you to work out with women.

If that makes you feel comfortable.

People should stop thinking about you and get their asses out and run.

In America, most people could loose a few pounds.

Try running with friends, that could help and/or jog where not a lot of people go.

Not many people are willing to get up early in the morning to jog with me (believe me, I've asked.) My dad has back problems and my mom doesn't want to. I'm really self-concious so it's hard to just "suck it up and do it." As for swimming, I would but I don't have a pool nearby (closest is at least 30 minutes away) or a way to get me there.

- Go running with your friends?
- Or you could go biking, as someone else mentioned.
- Can you go to a nearby gym?
- Follow aerobic videos at home?
- Or you could try to just go running anyways. It's your life and people shouldn't care about your excercising.

Noooooo dont go to Curves. ph34r.gif

I went today, to try it out - and it was HELL. As soon as I walked in and saw what the place was like, I turned around and left. It's nothing but a bunch of older ladies who rotate between equipment that's lined up in a circle. They dont even have a tredmill!

Im the same way, I just dont like working out in front of other people...alwyas feel like their critisizing me for something or another.

What I did, was I started getting up earlier in themornings, and running in the morning. Not only do you have a very rare chance of running into anyone you know...and if you do they prolly dont want to see you either, you feel much better for the rest of the day. Your more awake, and energized...as long as you eat a good breakfast before or after you go.

ok WOW. what are the chances of THAT happening?! basically, none. who cares what others think? the fact that you want to be fit & are going running means you have self discipline & a lot of lazy people are just going to be jealous. happy.gif

Just trying to excercise in the privacy of your own home won't be much better for you. If you're so determined to lose some weight, you shouldn't be embarrassed at all. It's for a change of the better, so get OUT and do something, whatever it is that you find interesting.

Don't worry about what other people think. You're doing it for yourself and to feel better about yourself. Jogging around in a not so crowded place can be good for losing wait. Swimming also works wonders.

ROFL! I hate it.

ME TOO! I hate going to the gym. Because every single time there is this big 40 year old lady that wears spandex. And tries to out run me in the treadmill or lift more weights than me. haha. It's funny yet creepy.

Try swimming because you don't sweat as much.

Cycling is a great way to loose some pounds and gain alot of stamina and overall endurance.
Pick up your pace on the treadmill perhaps?

Anyways I work out at home. Been training for a while now, so home training might be better for you. Also I recommend going to the gym if you want. Depends what your after though.

If getting in shape and exercising is
that important to you, then what does
it matter what other people think?
If you are consistent with it, you'll
get results, and what's embarassing
about that?
don't be afraid to have some confidence ;)

I'm like that, too. Especially in PE with this guy who makes fun of me. I try to ignore it, and know I should brush it off, but sometime it just gets me so mad I just stand or sit there and do nothing. pinch.gif I stick to using the elliptical I have at home. If you find it boring using the treadmill at home, try doing other exercises or something like that. I don't see how it could be boring if you're watching some show you like or something of that nature..

Ignore jerks like that or kick him where it hurts.

If you really want to get in shape then what others think shouldn't matter. Besides oncce you achieve what you want then others will be impressed and most importantly you will as well.

go to the gym.
running on the treadmill is a great exercise,
and if you don't do it because you think it's boring,
that just shows that you are not dedicated to losing weight.

my dad started running a couple of months ago,
and lost about 30+ pounds from it.
try running for a long period of time at a faster speed.
it builds your endurance and it challenges yourself.

oh and, going vegetarian does not work!
i know this man that has ate vegetarian for probably 30+ years,
and he's still at least 250 pounds.
and yeah, he used to be average sized before he went vegetarian.
