It drives me nuts when people think that because the jeans are named "skinny" then they should only be worn by skinny people. Not true at all! Curvacious women are totally encouraged to show and be proud of their curves. I wear skinny jeans and I'm not a stick. Now, you need to know how to wear them... skinny jeans can look bad on skinny people if they don't wear them properly.

What are your views on this?

Well, if a girl has chubby thighs or short legs, I don't think skinny jeans would look good on her. However, even if a girl has long and skinny legs, it doesn't mean she would look good in them either because it depends on how she matches her outfit with skinny jeans.

they're called skinny jeans because of the way they are cut and tapered (the legs get 'skinnier' towards the ankle) not because skinny girls should wear them.

True, true, lilliannnn.

I think confidence and the right fit is key. No matter what your size and shape, picking out the wrong fit can make anyone look strange.

The problem is skinny jeans are really what they are marketing to people.
So in a sense you kinda are forced to wear the skinny jean.

But then again there are those people who feel that can pull off anything..
God bless them cry.gif

i dont think skinny jeans look good on short legs.
curves look cute as long as it is the right fit, which goes for all body types

i switch back and forth between skinny & normal, depending on the "look" i'm going for.

What's the difference between skinny jeans and straight-leg jeans? I've always thought of skinny jeans are just jeans that aren't boot-cut jeans. shrug.gif

I've never seen a really curvaceous person wear skinny jeans, but as long as the skinny jeans aren't skin-tight but more um...tubular? LOL. That is so not the right word. But yes. It could work with the right fabric and fit.

Well skinny jeans just don't work on certain body types....definitely not on me because I have pretty short legs. Not necessarily a curvy person and not necessarily a skinny person...it just depends, also what you wear it with.

I find that skinny jeans lengthen my legs shrug.gif

Skinny jeans taper more at the end than straight-leg jeans.

^ I agree! I have short legs and I think they lengthen my leg because they're no really visible cut off point... they just kinda make it look like your leg goes on forever. Whereas, flared jeans poof out and cut off the leg.

I've seen plenty of curvy girls rock the skinny jeans. Especially if they have a big ass lmao, it looks really nice. I dont like the way skinny jeans look on girls who are UBER skinny. It makes their legs look like sticks. As if I can take them and snap them in half.

they're pretty much the only kind of jeans i wear. i'm pretty curvy.
i dunno if people think they look good or not but i like them on me so i could care less. happy.gif
but i have absolutely no ass at all and they make me look like i have somewhat of one.but i wouldn't reccomend them for someone who's ass is already big, because it makes it look bigger.
but they are definately for different types of people.

When I think skinny jeans + celebrities, I usually think petite people like Rachel Bilson.

lol it can be done, just many people don't know what to wear that flatters them. obviously if you have a big tum tum and you're wearing skinny jeans and t-shirt it's not going to look good. least wear a shirt to cover that pregnant belly.

If you're curvy, you should pair skinny jeans with looser, longer tops, such as tunic tops so that it won't draw more attention to your hips.

i'm sure some curvacious women could pull them off, but i have yet to see any of them try. i guess it depends on what they wear with it as well. as long as i dont' see a muffin top or a belly, i'm good. :D

How you should wear skinny jeans if you're curvy (my opinion):

- No visible pockets on your thighs. Meaning, none of those pockets with flaps. Actually, any extra detail on the thigh area is a no-no. Your thighs will be put under a magnifying glass. Or pockets with flaps on your butt, for that matter.

- Or pleats. Right now I'm thinking of Jessica Simpson's monstrosity, although they're high-waisted jeans. And not skinny. But you can see how they're not flattering at all: http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2005713342223652937

- For the love of God, do not buy ANY jeans without a back pocket. You will have an ass the size of Texas. Be wary of the positioning of the back pocket, also. Let the pockets sit so they "cup" your butt on the fleshy part. Any lower and the pockets'll reach your thighs (not flattering). Any higher and you'll look like you have a giant ass. This is sometimes even worse than no back pocket at all.

- No "painted on" skinny jeans. There's a difference between that and tapered. You want a pant that follows the line of your leg and tapers slightly at the ankle, not one that clings so tightly that you can't breathe. Skinny jeans don't have to be amazingly tight.

- Go for a darker wash. Even black would work.

- Like someone else suggested, wear a looser-fitting top. This works to balance out any outfit; have wide-leg pants? Wear a more fitted top. Flowy skirt? Skip the flowy blouse and try a camisole. So, you have skinny jeans? Wearing a floatier top. It'll balance you out, and helps to hide anything else you may want to cover up.

- Oh, very important thing...don't wear chunky shoes with your skinny jeans! It's not a great idea for the pants to bunch up too much when you wear them over a bigger shoe, like Nike Dunks or something. Chucks and Vans work well for casual looks, flats are great for being slightly more dressy and pumps are very sexy. Boots would work, but if you're short as well, I wouldn't advise it. Anything that cuts of the line of your leg will make your legs shorter, hence, making your whole body look shorter.

Wow, that was long.

Okay, so this picture of Mischa isn't of her in skinny jeans, but I'd like to share anyway.

WTF? Even Mischa Barton looks like a cow in those pants. LOSE THEM.

OMG Mischa looks horrid in those jeans.... But then again, I think Mischa's legs aren't very pretty anyway, no matter what kind of pants she wears. whistling.gif

I also find that skinny jeans make shorter ppl's legs look longer.

But I do admit that they look the BEST on thin legs. :/

I have shortass legs a bigass butt and hips and a kinda small waist ( I'm kinda fat =D ) and I look f**king wonderful in skinny jeans. They make me look slimmer cus they follow my leg line and make me look curvy, and not just like a fatty.

Nah theres a lot of a fat people around here that wear skinny jeans. -shrugs-

Wow that sounded a bit mean. So let me rephrase that. There are a lot of very curvy girls that wear them and I think I've only seen like one 'skinny' girl wear them. I personally don't wear them though. I think its just another trend going around that I personally don't want to be in the middle of. I'll stick to my normal comfy jeans.

i think a straight or skinny leg looks waaay better on a curvier woman because if the jeans were flared to match the hip it would just draw attention. i have wide hips but nicer calves so i love skinny jeans because they draw the attention to the good stuff.

Well, I don't mean to sound stereotypical but.. aren't the curvacious girls who wear skinny jeans usually more like skater-ish? The skinny girls who do wear skinny jeans are just making a statement that they are "fashionable."

That made absolutely no sense at all. I'm a super skinny person and all I wear are skinny jeans, but I don't wear them to be fashionable. I wear them because I like the way they look on me and I'm a sucker for anything retro. If you saw me, I guess you would stereotype me as a "skater-ish" person, but that label is a far cry away from the kind of person I really am. I don't even skateboard!

I find what XxBrookxX said pretty funny how they're called "emo pants" at her school. At my school, I've seen anyone from skaters (people who actually do skateboard) to more preppy and fashion-conscious people wearing skinny jeans. You've also got your emos, scenesters, punks, and indie kids who wear them too. (These stereotypical labels are more similar to the style of clothing I wear.)

There's one rather chubby girl at my school who wears skinny jeans and I don't think she can pull them off at all. My boyfriend's sister has what I would consider an average build and she pulls them off pretty well. I do agree that you don't necessarily have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans, but I do think there's a difference between a fat person and an average person wearing them.
