I would definitely not say that I have a good fashion sense by ANY means, but what's kind of cute about that is the fact that everyone in my family thinks I do. My younger brother, 18, asks me for advice on what to wear on dates, and my youngest brother, 11, acts SO shy when I take him shopping. I ask him what he wants and he says, "Which do you think would look best?" My mom will come out of the bathroom after having used my hair products and say, "How do you think THIS looks? I tried your straightener. Should I wear this shirt, does this match?" It's so adorable and it actually kind of makes me feel good, them asking me for advice.

Anyway, the point, my cousin has been trying to get in touch with me all weekend, and with me being out of town I never received any of her calls. Well, I found out today, because my aunt called my mom while I was in the living room watching American Idol.

Here's my mom's end of the conversation -

Mom - "Danielle? Oh, she's about.. what, Danielle, a size 4?"
Me - "Yeah..?"
Mom - "Oh, is she? Yeah, they do look like they're about the same size, don't they? Danielle's just a little taller."
*silence*
Mom - "She's got a red dress.. I dunno, maybe.."
Me - "Who is this for?"
Mom - "Melissa." (Melissa's my cousin)
Me - "Where's she going?"
Mom - "Her husband is getting the 'star of life' award from LifeNet, he's going to meet the president."
Me - "Mom, she can't go in a prom dress, are you serious? Let her borrow the black one I wore to the symphony orchestra in Dallas."
Mom - "Oh.. She's got a black one, she wore it to a concert in Dallas, she's only worn it once. Oh, yeah, it's really pretty. No, she was pretty well covered. I'd say it was well past her knees.. I dunno, though, on Melissa it'd probably reach the floor. It's really pretty, I'm sure Danielle won't mind if she borrows it."

..five minutes later, Melissa, who's just a few years older than me, is over here trying on my dress. Most people are possessive when it comes to clothing, but I'm FLOORED that she asked me if I had something she could borrow. The dress fit, and now she has something to wear.

Fact is, if I was in a different part of the country, it would probably be much different, but here in this part of Texas I guess it's rare to see anyone walking around in something other than t-shirt+jeans. It's such a bizarre concept, though, with me being the total antisocial supermeganerdgeek that I am, and them asking me for advice.

So, this goes without saying, but since this is CB I'll go ahead and include it: thoughts, opinions, similar stories, ways to relate..?

Maybe you just don't realize you have good fashion sense? happy.gif

Personally, when people ask me for fashion advice, it kind of annoys me. It's like, develop your own fashion sense, don't steal my fashionability. rolleyes.gif
But yes it is flattering, and it makes you feel good when a person's outfit gives them confidence.

I guess the deal is, I really dress like a normal person, but I've spent about two years living in another state. I just moved back down and I've realized my entire family still pretty much dresses exactly the same while my sense of style has changed dramatically. Since I only get asked for advice by my family, it's kind of a nice surprise when they do ask. Like I said, it's cute. XD.gif

Yeah, I think it really has to do with the are you live in. I'm sure it's much easier to be fashionable in a big town like San Jose versus the bustling city of San Francisco. We have common dress at my school, so practically everyone wears dreses. I love wearing skirts and dresses, so when I do wear them it's super nice to hear people go "Oh my goodness! We so need to go shopping with each other." blush.gif The thing is is that they'r really just basing that on a couple of outfits. They just happen to stand out from our local norm. Move me a few miles up, and it might be completely different.

Dani, you still have your old prom dress? XD.gif Do you ever plan on wearing it agian?

Yes, I do, and no, I'll never ever EVER wear it again. XD

I have no clue what to do with it, I'd donate it but I'd rather give it to someone who needs it that I actually know. I dunno.

I just tossed my prom dress. It was OLD, to say the least. XD

I've devoid of any fashion really. Not a terrible dresser, not a fancy dresser. I'm not one that would typically be noticed (at least not by what I wear) and I've never cared to nor have I ever had the money to spend on fantastic clothes (subjectively speaking, of course).

I have, however, always had pretty funky hair. Back when (yes, BACK WHEN) is wasn't cool to have multi colored hair or short punky hair, I did. wink.gif I also had the nose ring before anyone else in my school had it. (To give perspective, I graduated in 1994, had my nose pierced in 1989 laugh.gif ). The rules about being 18 and what not at that point wasn't really followed through, so I got a way with A LOT.

In any case, at first I was a freak. Then I became Miss Freak. Then, at one point in high school (I think it was my senior year), people were asking me how I did my hair, where they could get their nose pierced (and whether or not I recommended a ring or a stud), etc. It was really weird because the same people who used to make fun of me were now asking me for advice and what not.

Of course, I didn't appreciate it. In fact a conversation I had with this one girl (who was particularly malicious to me at one point) went something like this:

Prissy Pants: "So... how did you get the red in your hair so bright? I think it would look really good on me because I'm always told red looks good on me. Any tips?"
Me: "I have a tip. F*CK OFF."

The end. thumbsup.gif

OMG I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, DANI! Except it only involves my half-sister and my boyfriend.

EVERY TIME my half-sister goes shopping with me, she always asks me for advice and if I say it's cute she'll buy it and if I say it's not, she won't! I said a shirt looked "alright", but I thought it looked too last-season, and my sister actually decided to NOT BUY IT, even though she was fussing over how cute it was! laugh.gif Maybe it's because I also used to work in retail (Express, BABY!), so she thinks i have this great sense of fashion. blush.gif She says I know what's hip and classy. Dunno.

My boyfriend will dress like he's in middle school or something if I don't dress him myself. Sorry, but if he wore EXTRA BAGGY jeans and a huge t-shirt with a baggy hoodie and such, he will NOT look like he's 19 years old. More like 13-14 yrs old. whistling.gif He says I know style and I usually dress him. I try to buy him shirts and pants that accentuate his tall and slim figure, and it works. He thinks I'm a fashion expert as well. sweating.gif

REBECCA - You know what? People in my middle school used to make fun of me because I always parted my hair to the side, especially my sister. Everyone had their hair parted in the middle. And then suddely, BAM I hit high school and by sophomore year, EVERYONE's doing it! I was like, WTF?! Since some of those girls who changed their hair to side-parts, USED to have hair parted down the middle and made fun of me! rolleyes.gif And even my SISTER would make fun of me, and now she has it parted to the side, THEN she got bangs cut, too.

Wow, talk about hypocrits.... I don't care about the bangs or anthing, but man those girls were annoying. TOTAL hypocrits by making fun of my side part!
NOTE: I parted my hair to the side since I was like 2nd grade and it's been that way since forever. :P I would never part it in the middle ever again (i tried for 3 months, then it got boring).

^ Isn't it SO frustrating!?

And I killed the prom dress. Trust me, it had to be put down. Keep in mind that I am OLD and graduated in 1994. XD There's a picture somewhere, I'm sure. I'd have to be in a bizarre mood to ever post it though. :p

Oh and has anyone ever had issues with a friend that has proclaimed a symbol or a theme as their own?

For example, butterflies are cute right? I've never been obsessive about them (I prefer dragonflies), but I've had butterflies on certain clothing items before. So a friend of mine would get absolutely beligerent when she'd see my wearing something with a butterfly on it. She even freaked when I bought a butterfly candle. "You know, Beck, butterflies are MY thing." Uh... mellow.gif

^ YES SO ANNOYING mad.gif
My 'friends' symbol were bunnies..so one day I wore a bunny printed shirt to school and she started commenting and saying things like 'Allison! You totally copied me with the bunnies!' _dry.gif
GOSH ITS JUST A FRIGGIN' TSHIRT THAT I THOUGHT WAS CUTE
anyway..my older brother always asks me which piece of clothing looks better on him or which color..Compared to my outrageously outdated family, I have the most 'fashion sense' ermm.gif

I harsh wanna see those pictures too... shifty.gif

But anyhow, it is flattering whenever anyone asks for fashion advice, because it shows others like your style but then there's a point when it can be irritating...like having someone copy your style entirely. That's just not cool.

It's cool that other people ask for your advice and tips. It shows they like your fashion sense.

I get asked often by my friends about what products to buy and what types of clothes would be good on them. Also I like to mix and creat me own fashion style. Everyone i've known like my style alot so I guess I have a goodt fashion sense as well, when you sum it all up.

I'm just one of those guys that love fashion, clothes, etc.

^Tis funny hearing this....especially due to the fact that you are soooo unstylish. *teehee* jk.

Hmm well I guess I get asked alot for my opinion when it comes to clothes. Plus I get complimented alot. Why is this? I dunno XD.gif Apparently I can get away with wearing anything...according to my brother and sister.

Ah well aspose...my sister should be thankful that she's the same size as me...on occasions she's asked to wear some of my clothes blink.gif

I wouldn’t say you have a good fashion sense. I say, you're quite generous and willing to help out others with the best of your abilities.

You're somewhat like me. I'm not an expert at anything BUT I intend to give my best time and analytical thoughts to support others and provide the best need for them. That's just me. It's my nature. I don’t do things for people because I’m an expert. It’s only a personality. I know a lot of people aren’t generous or willing enough to give the best. I mean, if I ask my friends for suggestion, they’ll be like, “I don’t know I can’t help. I’m not good with it, you know. Blah blab blab”. I don’t care about it. I like people who at least try their best. Helping others without being an expert means a lot. It implies a lot. It defines who you are and many people don’t know that. Things just slip out of their mind.

Rebecca - EUGH that bothers me! When people are like "omg you copied me!" And then those people buy EVERYTHING of that style, pattern, logo, or brand, and act like they own the brand!

Ack this reminds me of my sister who works at A&F and in the past when I wore stuff from there, she would always tell me that it doesn't look good on me or that I'm a "biter" (jocker, copycat).

There was this girl who wore the same shirt as me back in high school and she looked me up and down because we wore the same shirt the same day! I never saw her wear that shirt again. rolleyes.gif I could care less; I will wear a shirt that someone else wears. It's not like it's the end of the world. People these days.

</end rant>

I am considered to have a bad fashion sense here because I don't wear Hollister and Abercrombie. cry.gif ThoughIdosneakinabitofamericaneagleattimesthoug.

Ehh.. I get comments on my shirts and tops a lot. I guess they're cute. I don't know.. I don't like lending people my clothes... I'm possesive.
