so i've never really thought about this until today when i was on a group on myspace. it's a long story. but in the bible, does it say that animals were only made to eat? and does it ever say that vegetarianism is wrong? everyone has told me that it says that he only made animals to provide clothing and food but i know that daniel didn't eat meat, so i'm not sure. anyways, if i am like...going against the bible by not eating meat, i'd like to know. also, sorry if i sound really dumb. i'm a new christian so i'm not very educated on the bible yet. thanks. :]]

I'm not 100% sure on that one but I don't think it says anything of the sort. Everyone Christian I know or that I've met in person has never mentioned anything against it and even ate meat themselves. I don't think theres anything wrong with it. I am a Christian myself and I eat meat and salad.

Well, I have a friend who is a Christian, and is also a vegetarian. She claims that somewhere in the Bible, in Genesis I think, that it says that once again the lion will lay with the lamb. I'm not sure if that's in Heaven, or when God eventually rids the world of sin? Or maybe that was before man first sinned. But anyways, I think the verse means that by the lion and the lamb laying together, that there is peace among animals. Maybe animals not eating each other? I'll try to find the verse for you.

^As far as I know, the Bible doesn't classify humans as animals, since we apparently have souls and can go to heaven/hell, while animals do not.

^ Yeah, but the verse meant that eventually there will be peace among animals... a lion not harming a lamb. I'm not religious, so the Bible isnt going to determine anything for me. But I guess it just depends on how you interpret things.

I think along time ago it was okay to eat animals, and use them for fur, and other things... but today we have little to no excuses. With todays technology, we dont need animals fur to stay warm, and there are plenty of other options for food.
Even if the Bible does say its wrong to not eat meat, I wouldnt let a book decide for you. You should do what you feel is right. |

Oh yeah, there's plenty of people who are vegetarian. My sister is mostly vegetarian also, she will eat meat but hardly ever but she's not a Christian. Just because someone is vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean they are Christian. I don't think it's really the religion that makes them be vegetarian but more respect for animals than anything. But that's just my opinion. |

^ Hmm, thats not what I meant. I meant that I was surprised that a girl I know that's a vegetarian is also a Christian.
I think most veg's are usually not Christians. At least with the ones I've known. |

I don't think the Bibles says vegetarianism is wrong necessarily... Just that eating meat was ok? I thought there was a period where it was bad to eat animals, but then God cleansed them or told of some way to cleanse them or something, which is where Jewish kosher comes in?

I'm not Christian and I'm a vegetarian so I can't really speak for what God's message really is. But I thought it was a sin to take the life of another's. When did an animal become just a thing?

^^that's mostly because the little emo kids use it as a fad. i just don't like them killing animals. i puked every time i used to eat meat. Yeah, that is true, at least for alot of teenagers. Not so much for adults. I know kids who go around claiming "oh oh I'M A VEGETARIAN!! ooh look at me!".... and then they turn around and drink milkshakes, and eat candy and other foods loaded with gelatin. Hahah. I love it. But I think alot of people are sincere. It's sad that a majority of veg's that are under 18 or 21 are just doing it to be "cool". I hope I'm not coming off as rude, because there are definately kids out there that are totally sincere about it, and I respect that. ![]() |

I am a vegetarian and every time I go to my grandmother's house she yells at me and tells me I am going against God's wishes. It really bothered me that it was such a big deal for her so I looked into it.
'According to the bible, the first people were vegetarians. The first two chapters of Genesis tell a story of man and animal being companions, and trees being the source of food. In Genesis chapter 1, verse 29, God commands man to only eat fruits and vegetables..... Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. It is very clear, that right there it says God gave the first people the plants and the trees for food. Some people try to twist this scripture to mean other things, and try to argue that this does not prove people were eating only the fruits and plants. One popular argument is that it was allowing man to eat vegetables as well as meat, but this is wrong. Humans did not meat eat until after the flood. To prove this we need to turn to the 9th chapter of Genesis..... Genesis 9:3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. Now notice God says "just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything". This is proof that before this point, people were only eating fruits and vegetables. At any rate, at this point God allowed man to eat meat, which opens up the argument that abstaining from meat is a subconscious form of questioning God's mercy. This is not true at all. In fact, vegetarians who believe in the bible are merely preparing themselves for heaven. When the kingdom of heaven is established, all beings will become herbivores. Some might argue that we will not need to eat in heaven, but the bible teaches that even in heaven, beings must eat. For example, in Genesis 19:1-3, angels from heaven ate a meal made of bread. So in heaven, beings will continue to eat. The prophet Isaiah gave many descriptions of this kingdom, and all his visions point to all beings being vegetarian. If all beings in heaven are going to be herbivores, then it would be safe to say that vegetarians living today are merely more prepared for that time. Isaiah chapter 11 gives a lengthy description of the peaceful kingdom, and the 65th chapter has a particular verse that strongly supports the idea of a kingdom filled with nothing but herbivores.... Isaiah 65:25 "The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither hunt nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.' I have even heard the argument that Jesus himself was a vegetarian? But, I don't know. |

i don't think it's wrong not to eat meat, i mean god gives us free will so we can chose to do and eat what we want.
