i am a junior and i haven't taken the SAT yet at all and since college board has extended the registration date for the one may 5th i was thinking of taking it. but i haven't done anything to prepare for it at all, like i pretty much don't know anything. should i still take it? i need to take it obviously.
and how long will it take to get results back? would it be in enough time to know what i need to work on before the one june 2nd? |

The best class you can take for SAT's is Testmasters. It's kind of expensive, but if you sign up with a friend, it's definately worth it.
If you don't have time to take a test, Princeton Review's the best book (imo). The class and that book raised my score from a 1860 to a 2240. In your case, I'd sign up for both tests because the key to the SAT's is repetition. After the first time you take it, May 5, you'll kind of get how it goes, study what parts you didn't get to finish, etc, then take it again in June 2. It took collegeboard about 2-3 weeks to send me back my grades, so I wouldn't count on them. |

I think you should still take it. I'm taking mine May 5th too. I'm not taking any prep classes on it... I would only do that if you think you need a little advanced help. But I think the average person doesnt really need it. Check out Barnes and Noble's website... I bought "The Princeton's Review - Cracking the SAT 2007 Edition". I think it was less than $20, and shipping was free.
Good luck! ![]() QUOTE In your case, I'd sign up for both tests because the key to the SAT's is repetition. But why take it again whenever you havent seen your previous score yet? You might be wasting your time and money. You never know, you might score high enough on it the first time to not need to take it again. Or what if you do really bad on it? Then you'd know that you needed to take a course on it. I think after the one In June, there's one at the end of July / early August. |

Yeah... the average person doesn't need classes so unless you want to get into an Ivy or an equally difficult school to get into, don't take any prep classes.
But if you're not naturally good at tests like the SAT and you want as perfect of a score as you can get, the prep classes are the way to go. The SAT doesn't test skills - its a time management test and if you understand how every single question in the test works, it'll be easy. For example, the entire essay is formulated - if you use a certain formula that Testmasters gives you, you'll get a 10+ every single time you do the essay part. And I'm just telling her what I did and it worked will for me. I got a 2100 the first time, then the next month I got a 2210 with not-that-much studying in between. It makes a difference. |
