meh, sorry to burst a bubble but.... their library seems kinda weak actually. all of the anticipated games got horrible scores besides twilight princess which i have for gamecube. you cant even look forward to multi plats that 360 and ps3 get like dark sector or assasins creed, you cant even get resident evil 5 for gods sake, you have resident evil "umbrella chronicles" lol wtf. you cant even play online yet, which is just rediculous im sorry. and you dont even know if ssbb will even BE online. alot of developers really arent that interested honestly(Valve dissed it), some SAY they are, they'll make something, but its alwayse half assed.

The Wii is definitely overhyped. But it is by no means a terrible system. Currently, it's doing exactly what it was designed to do- attract non gamers. Heck, a lot of people I know bought the Wii and just play Wii Sports. Not my cup of tea, but if they enjoy it, I guess more power to them.

I believe the question isn't whether or not SSBB will be online, but whether or not it can support four player battles. That's what the developers said they were having trouble with, but IIRC Miyamoto said that he really wants to see it online. I don't mind a delay if it means a better game, I've been waiting all this time anyway, it wouldn't piss me off to move it a lit further at this point.

I dunno what you mean by developers not interested. A lot of developers are now supporting Wii just because it's so damned cheap to develop for it. On the other hand, PS3 development costs are so high that some developers feel that it's not worth the risk because your game would have to be a huge hit just to break even since the overhead costs are so high.

OH SHIT Valve dissed the Wii. When has valve done anything for Nintendo consoles anyway? When has Valve done anything past Half-Life? Somehow I don't think Nintendo will be pulling out their hairs over this. I don't see the problem with looking forward to Mario Galaxy. Just because the game doesn't involve hacking people up with a chainsaw, doesn't mean it's a shitty game. I still play Pokemon; I even had my old gameboy with Pokemon Blue here while I left my DS at home (though that should change when Ruby/Sapphire comes out). The game stays the same even if it's not popular with the "cool" people anymore. Your dick is not going to fall off if you play games like Pokemon, Katamari and Mario. Other games I'm looking forward to include Spore, Sonic (because this one might not suck) and the new Katamari game.

Bringing me to my next point, the controller almost makes multi platform games exclusive to the Wii because the developer will be making the game with the Wii controller in mind, whereas the PS3/360 versions will be more or less ports of each other. Nintendo games will always be exclusive to Nintendo consoles and they are almost always top quality.

Home is really impressive; not a reason to get a PS3 (it's just a glorified MMO if you look past the marketing) but still it's a good showing by Sony when everyone expected their online to be featureless like the PS2's was. BluRay is picking up though, so if it becomes the format of choice, I might pick up a PS3 when the price drops. But still, the Gundam game sucked.

No, I'm saying the Nintendo Wii isn't a piece of shit like some people are claiming. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up the best selling though. It's had the strongest launch of all three consoles. The 360 has been out for what, a year and a half. The Wii has been out for four months. The Wii has has sold over 5 million, the 360 has sold nearly 11 million (ps3 over 2 million). It looks to me like the Wii's on pace to surpass the 360, though that's leaving Halo 3 out of the equation.

dont get me twisted, i played ALOT of games. i most likely own more nintendo and Sega systems than you do., i own everything but the power glove and saturn man. i like spore also and i love games like Kingdom Hearts and the sims and those dont necessarily make your dick bigger. so dont you dare put that label on me.
Mario is truly just not THAT great to be honest, much respect. but lets be real now. i played far better games than sunshine on ps2 for damn sure. my favorite genre is rpg's, so you put that "chainsaw" stab away. Oblivion for example does more and is way more engaging and intelligent than mario. sorry if i like it alot better. and thats not even the best game for the systems, its just a simple multi plat. and when a simple multi plat is better than your "elites" thats when something is wrong. and THAT was my point. i also like games like BioShock. this game looks f**king amazing, but for some reason i feel the need to ask did you even see it? "hunting the big daddy" demo, did you see it? if you watch it you'll see why im more hyped about playing that game than any game for the wii. and you guys dont have a single game that you can look forward that has that level of unique technical gameplay.

What do you want mario to do? Would it be a true mario game if it wasn't a platformer? Do you actually want Nintendo whoring him out more than they are already? Nintendo's already have him racing karts, playing tennis, DDR, etc. It's not a true mario game if it's not a platformer.

I've never played TP so I couldn't tell you. But the people who have played both have told me the Wii version is more fun. You could shoot arrows on horseback on the N64 versions.

Red Steel sucks, people knew it was going to when Ubisoft showed the actual gameplay at TGC.

I did try out Wii Sports and I have to say it's really stupid and I can't understand why so many people are in love with it. A little harsh, but it's just a novelty (to be fair, it's a "free" game). But hey, I couldn't understand why everyone loved Halo/2 as much as they did. So many other better FPS games.

You own three very expensive machines for gaming. Now, look at the quotes I posted from the Sony/MS execs. Is it not feasible that people aren't stupid enough to see this as a zero sum game and that it's entirely possible for all three to "win"? I consider all three companies winners in last gen. Nintendo made record profits, Microsoft learned plenty of lessons, and Sony was number one in sales. In fact, if anyone has much to lose, it's Sony since they're banking on the PS3 to sell BluRay.

Stop caring so much as well. I'm not about to go to gamefaqs or gametrailers forums and try to argue with fanboys because I feel like calling people retarded. I don't agree that Wii Sports is a fun game. I may not even think the reason they like the game is great. Doesn't matter if they mean it or not; from a consumer standpoint you see all three console manufacturers telling you to buy the Wii. That says something. If you're an investor and you see this happening, you take notice. And what it really means is that all three know that Nintendo isn't directly competing with them in terms or horsepower. It is in a developer's best interest to develop for the console with the largest installed user base, because there's a greater potential to sell more games. That's why the PS2 had so many good games, whereas the gamecube wasn't getting as many.

i loved all nintendo systems all the way until the gamecube. the gamecube didnt have enough software. or enough good software, they basically released one AAA game a year. smash bros, metroid,mario sunshine, zelda windwaker, and zelda TP. thats basically all the gamecube had. they never made another smashbros after melee, they didnt release another zelda until the end of its days, 2 metroids? and one real mario. and imo the only great one is zelda. nintendo started sticking with the same software and not gaining anything else, they couldnt get the multiplats that ps2 and xbox would get. last generation, everybody knows the gamecube didnt do as well as it should have. last generation was its weakest. and these 2 newer consoles left a bigger impression. and in that sense, nintendo lost. yeah i found some nintendo games enjoyable, every system better have its enjoyable games. but then nintendo got competition, and then i found games i thought to be even more enjoyable, on other consoles, especially ps2. which offered me many more great titles for many more genres. and this left the nintendo games feeling alittle dry in comparison.

Buzz is meh considering everyone is trying to hype their product up as much as possible. Halo got no attention when it was first demonstrated at E3, but look where it is now.

There is plenty of buzz surrounding the Wii, it's making headlines on tech sites daily, in fact people are now afraid to criticize it because it's so popular, which is stupid IMO, but it does show that the Wii is doing well. It sounds to me like you're ignoring the buzz around the Wii, intentionally or not intentionally (since you've already demonstrated you're not interested in the games obviously you won't be as receptive to the buzz surrounding the Wii games).

It seems like you are misunderstanding the business behind the console industry. Think about this. One company makes cheap, affordable, disposable knives. Another company makes very expensive, but very high quality knives. They even use iron from meteorites to make it rarer. The plastic knives cost $5 for a pack of 200. The meteoric knives cost $500 apiece. Who sells more and which company is more likely to stay in business? Or if you will, which company has a brighter future?

Wii Q1 Release Schedule Is Sort Of… Weak

Historically, Nintendo hasn’t really had strong outings from third-party developers. When it comes to first-party properties, such as Mario, Zelda and Metroid, Nintendo has had great success, but when it comes to sustaining a good release schedule, they’ve been out of luck. For proof you can just look at the software lineup for the Nintendo 64 and GameCube. That’s why Reggie Fils-Aime has promised, to N’Gai Croal of Newsweek, that the Wii will be different. Well, Reggie, after looking at the first quarter release schedule, I’m going to have to doubt your claims.

In an interview last December, Reggie Fils-Aime spoke with N’Gai Croal about a possible software droubt. During this interview, Fils-Aime was asked if he would be willing to make a “read my lips” statement about continuing momentum throughout this year and into the next. Fils-Aime replied with “I thought I just did.” However, key pieces of the Nintendo release schedule appear to be missing.

Yesterday, Nintendo released a schedule of the first quarter game releases and one of Fils-Aime’s big 3 isn’t on the list as expected. In the interview with Croal, Fils-Aime noted that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption would be released early in 2007 to give Nintendo a momentum boost to carry them towards Mario Galaxy, but that doesn’t seem to be the case as Metroid Prime 3 isn’t on the list. Chris Kohler of Wired also noted that Mario Party 8 has mysteriously vanished from its Q1 release and has been moved back to Q2.

Is Nintendo up to the same old tricks again or can they actually manage to keep the fantastic momentum they worked up with the Wii launch?

Is the Wii suffering the same sort of problems as previous Nintendo systems? The company was confident it wouldn’t, but a lack of proper AAA titles in the coming months makes worrying reading for avid followers of the Big N.

Back in October 2006 in an interview with Newsweek’s N’Gai Croal, Nintendo of America president and all-round ass-kicker Reggie Fils-Aime stated that Wii wouldn’t suffer the same, infamous, new game drought that had afflicted previous Ninty consoles. He said that the key brands of Mario, Zelda and Metroid would “continue driving momentum through 2007″, and give Wii the support it would need to keep gamers interested.

A pretty little graph on games website gamesradar shows that the Wii isn’t delivering on the promises of ol’ Reggie. The graph compares the Wii during early its early days to the N64 and the GameCube. With both Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 probably not coming out until the end of 2007 there does appear to be a bit of a void.



The graph shows the number of games available for each console during the first four months of its launch. The white line is Wii - and you’ll see that although it’s faring better than N64, GameCube actually boasted more titles during its first two months. The Wii might see a better March though with about seventeen titles set to hit throughout the month including Mario Party 8, SSX Blur and Tiger Woods. April however looks very empty and there is a bit of a lack of a ‘killer’ title for the system in the coming months.

So, get ready for another spring/summer drought of games. Hopefully Nintendo will pull out something special and give us a few big titles before August (you never know) and a bumper Christmas to boot. Go on Nintendo, you know you want to?

I was watching Attack Of the Show on G4 a couple of days back, and on their debate section “The Loop” They question whether Nintendo were in Trouble again.

did you know at first, I was quick to jump to the conclusion that they weren’t , but then i thought about it… they really could be.

I mean look at these damaging factors:

- Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 Possible Delayed till X-mas
- 3rd party devs aren’t bringing out so many games

And with statements now that the Wii has the power to procude Hi-Def graphics, except it would cost more, it really makes you think hard about the somewhat “Life-Time” invest you put money into.

im not pulling anything out of my ass when i say the wii is losing momentum. its been all over the place, and logically thinking, because its not gaining software, and there is barely any credible 3rd party games to be found, i had that feeling as well. it feels there will be nothing to fill in the gap between now, and x mas season when Galaxy and metroid 3 come out. and by that time, assassins creed, Heavenly sword,DMC4,Dark sector,Halo3,Mgs4,Mass effect,Bioshock,Final fantasy XIII, GTHD will have already been out.

just looking at what they have to offer software wise and what i will be getting in the future, its pretty...weak. of course they did well at the start, thats to be expected. but you cant base that off of the systems future, because the gamecube did the exact same thing. had a good start, but slowly went down because of software issues, the exact same issue the wii seems to be having. and in this aspect, the wii will have lost in my eyes, and many others. and lets say the wii just may win in making profits, but it will lose in becoming the gamers console. and thats much worse in my opinion. yeah you are making profits right now, but at what costs?

The first source (the wordpress blog) just mentions is that games are being pushed back. I don't care if a game is delayed as long as they're fixing things rather than rushing to get it out on time. Miyamoto said something along the lines of a delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever. CliffyB didn't attempt to rush Gears of War, he said it'll be finished when it's finished and the game came out nicely polished. People said the same thing about the Nintendo DS, but look where it is now.

As you can see there's no shortage of companies that want to release games for the Wii. Although, there's a question of the quality of games coming out, but at least it demonstrates that third party developers are more inclined to develop for the Wii than, say, the Gamecube.

just looking at what they have to offer software wise and what i will be getting in the future, its pretty...weak. of course they did well at the start, thats to be expected. but you cant base that off of the systems future, because the gamecube did the exact same thing. had a good start, but slowly went down because of software issues, the exact same issue the wii seems to be having.

how many of the developers are making the games for the wii that people are actually excited about? instead they make something completeyly different and not as good. ubisoft, instead of making a GRAW,rainbow, or assassins creed for the Wii, they make red steel. take-two wont be making a GTA for them, will namco be releaseing a soul caliber or Tekken for the wii? if not then they are useless. will square enix be releasing final fantasy XIII or versus or kingdom Hearts on the wii? no. kojima might do something good. but is capcom releasing RE5 or DMC to the wii? nope. all the games that make those developers good arent being released on the wii. as a buyer i dont like that.

PSP wasnt rich with software, software sells systems more so than features. PSP had crap software while DS had decent software therefore it sold better. and it doesnt hurt that more little kids buy more handhelds than adults and psp was for more of a mature market, while the youngn's get the DS without a second of hesistation. nintendo could have released it with a picture of miyamotos ass on the front and it still woulda sold better. i wouldnt compare handhelds at all, nintendo is king of that race, consoles are different situation. that was sony's first go around in that category as well.

First of all, I only listed Q2 games. Not all those games you listed will be released Q2. All systems will probably have 2 good games in Q2 (since some of those games you listed don't even have set release dates left).

Nintendo being stagnant? I don't consider completely redesigning a controller stagnant. If anything, Nintendo is driving the market at the moment (being in first place and all). Sony redesigned their controller to have motion sensing, and Microsoft is now researching motion sensing input.

The "youngun" notion is bullshit. Brain Age (also known as DS Brain Training For Adults was the best selling game on the DS for a while. The game even says that the scoring system is not designed for people under 20. Your perception is wrong.

I agree though that certain franchises get leniency after a certain point; if you make even valid criticisms people attack you. Nintendo has a bunch of them. Halo is one. Final Fantasy is one. The Wii right now is enjoying that sense of infallibility right now. Every time I criticize Wii sports people get pissed at me. Your doing the same thing, except taking it to the opposite extreme by saying that the Wii is going to fall.

Don't always believe the "buzz." Don't forget that viral marketing has gotten very popular. Remember Sony paying those people to put graffiti on walls? And the guy they hired to write a blog about how much he wanted a PSP? I think it was TGS when no one attended Microsoft's demo so they paid a bunch of people to stand there and look excited so that it would draw a crowd. And when Nintendo wants to get people excited they send Reggie out and he says some stuff and people eat it up for some reason.

You claim that since Nintendo has traditionally been the top handheld maker, the DS was set to be the top seller. The PS2 was the best performing console so doesn't that mean the PS3 will be the top seller based on past performance? I mean, they were the king of the race. And wouldn't that mean that some weird anomaly happened, since you know, Nintendo was king of consoles until Sony came along?

Or are you talking about right now, as in this generation barring previous generations? Meaning the Xbox 360 is king overall. But what about recently, where the Wii has been outselling the 360? Does that mean there's a revolution in the console kingdom (pun not intended)?

I was expecting you to make this fallacy. No, I never claimed that volume sold represents quality. However, that's not what we're arguing here, as much as you'd like for it to be so. What we're arguing here is the validity of your statement that the Wii is not going to have a bright future (and that other guy's statement for that matter, that it's going down in 2008). Again, I'm reminding you that for argument's sake I'll agree that the Wii is the weakest and has the worst lineup, since you can't grasp the concept that this is completely a matter of opinion. What I'm saying (and what you fail to see) is that this doesn't really matter at the moment since the Wii is selling at the fastest rate of all three and that's all that matters in the context of this argument.

So basically what I'm getting out of this is that the Wii, although it has the fastest sales for a system in a long time, has constantly sold out in stores, and have people asking about it all over the place, is a horrible system. Why? because it doesnt do anything for YOU. Because of your own personal opinion.

I bought my boyfriend a Wii on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, last year '06, for Christmas. Why? Because he wanted one... basically for Zelda. My boyfriend is a guy who likes to own all the systems, so yea, he's neutral in regards to systems. :P I don't know shit about consoles.

Indeed, Wiis are still REALLY hard to find. I have yet to see them in stores, except for the time when I bought the one for my BF. In fact, wiimots and nunchucks are pretty difficult to buy as well, UNLESS you buy the Japanese ones that cost a little bit more. FEH.

When did you get your XBox 360? Did you get it at launch? If so, did yours break down or have any problems yet (3 rings of death)?
My boyfriend got his at launch and finally, after 1.5 years, it f*cked up on him, so he bought a PS3. Damn Xbox and it's poor design (my opinion).

But the question is, which games have you actually played on the Wii? Just wondering, because by expanding your library (or exposure) to more games, it allows you to see other great games as well.

I DON'T play on the Wii, even though we (since I bought it for my bf) share one, sorta lol. Wario Ware is pretty fun, and I've only played Wii Sports once. I enjoy watching my bf play Zelda, as i don't have the patience to play such a long game. Super Paper Mario was interesting to watch, since we rented that from BlockBuster (yay moviepass). I enjoy watching rather than playing.

Eh.. I'll just stick to my DS.
