I'm so tired of always falling for the same cliche of "I'm really sorry. I promise I wont do it again" bullsh*t. Srsly. I really wonder why I keep believing in the same promises from the same people. I know I must be really dumb to fall every single time, but I guess I got some kind of hope that it actually will happen. That those promises will actually be kept and come true.
I know I'm not the only one that believes that promises are sacred and should never be broken, but I'm really starting to feel that way. I haven't met one person yet that has made me a promise and actually kept it besides my fiance. I feel like the meaning of promise has diminished slowly with the passing of time. Nowadays, people make promises and don't keep them. When they break that promise they say "Sorry" like if it could be automatically and completely fixed that way. Its just not the same anymore and I have been hurt many times by these "promises" specifically from the people that are the closest to me. Is it really that difficult? I mean, when I make a promise I make sure that I can always keep it and its to someone that I really care about even if its me. The promise has to also have some kind of meaning or be special to me somehow. Not like I'm going to promise something meaningless or stupid. I guess it just doesn't work like that for me. "A promise is an eternal vow that one will or will not do something." |

They like to get your hopes up, and then crush them. Sorry but, it's just a part of life. I'm sure everyone has encountered this before.

Well, it's a promise. A contract. A binding. Not always the easiest things to keep going. It's life. Deal with it. People screw up. That's some of the best information you'll ever hear.

Hmm, I agree to every word you mentioned. But everybody makes mistakes somehow. We're all humans yet most are liars.
And I believe promises are meant to be broken. So having people to mention forever, eternal, fate, destiny, etc. I don't believe those anymore. ![]() |

Yeah, I'm starting to no believe in those words anymore. Its a real downer at times but your right. We are humans and will ALWAYS make mistakes. I guess that's why they also made forgiveness...I guess I feel better now ^.^v

Because you're not mature enough to understand the meaning of "commitment". Not saying you're not old enough, you just don't have enough experiences or knowledge of what you really want and how to get it or anything like that.

Believe me I pretty much know what the meaning of "commitment" is. Since, my life has ben nothing but hard lessons to be learned. That's the whole gist of it. Too many let downs and such that its kind of hard to believe that there isn't any hope at all (and there is). Its not the point that a person would not be mature enough, its the whole point of "how could've this happen?". I know exactly what I want and how to get it. Its easy. Its my little secret of life. That's why my life now is perfect. But the whole subject of how humans cannot keep a "commitment" is what dazzles me. But for everything there's a sub no? Its really hard to ever finding out what you really want out of life. And especially how to get it. 'Cause some may know what they want but never can figure out how to go around it to get it especially at my age. I'm 19 and I figured it out.
And as expected. The degree of those comments is the drive in me that keeps me questioning all of humankind. |

I think it is so hard for people to keep a promise is because it means that they have to stick with it.
Like, a diet.. sorta.. You have to keep to it for you to get the results that you want in the end.. but there will always be that cheese cake in the back of you mind poking at you saying.. " EAT ME! " Some people just fall and eat the cheese cake because they like it so much.. but after they eat it their like.. " Shit, I wish I didn't eat that. " In my mind you should always give that person a second chance because everyone deserves one.. BUT! No more then that. |

I agree with one of the preceding comments. You should never give out too many chances. Thats just an ivitation to get walked all over... and no one will think that you're worth keeping a promise to. They'll always think that its alright to break it because they know you'll forgive them. Believe me.. i've learned from personnal experience

It's called and "empty promise". Promises aren't hard to keep if you mean them.

Then next time make them write a contract and sign it. That way the promises won't come out of their mouths and float away.

Then next time make them write a contract and sign it. That way the promises won't come out of their mouths and float away. That's really retarded. Well, I guess you would think of something like that. ![]() Promises are meant to be broken (well to most people). I agree with what Dee said. Promises aren't THAT hard to keep of you REALLY mean them. |

It's true. Its not that hard 'cause I'm not perfect at all but to me promises are easy to keep because they actually mean something to me and I think before breaking one and I imagine the pain or dissapointment I may cause because of that broken promise.
I guess it may also depend on the kind of relationship a person might have with the other that makes the promise. And besides. I never really thought that promises were made to be broken. Promises aren't rules to regulate things or have them in order. Promises are more of an emotional bond. It has a deeper meaning than that of rules. So it shouldn't have that sense of "it was made to be broken". |

Uhh, honestly, would simply writing things down resolve such serious situations? ![]() Yes, I suppose the relationship with the person matters, which is why you shouldn't always be trusting too many people. People are smarter these days and definitely more deceiving, I would watch out for who earns your trust and ability to keep secrets and promises. |

I think it's because the people's attitudes or mentality are different from the time when they make the promise, to days or... who knows how long afterwards. The reason for making the promise starts to "wear off."

I think the reason why people dont keep promises is becasue they arent connected or emotionaly devoted to keeping that promise
