I have seen so many ways for last names when people get married; I adore it. I still haven't decided which I will do (if and/or when I get married). I'm not exactly hesitant to give up my current last name, but the whole "husband's surname-wife's surname" combination appeals to me. shrug.gif

I have no attachment to my last name, I will more than likely change it according to tradition if for no other reason than everyone else in my family has done it.

I'd change it when I get married, I like my last name, had it all my life, now I'll have a new one. In the future.

My husband will change his last name. >:] Just kidding, I personally don't believe in marriage so I doubt I'll ever stumble upon the problem. I think any new wife should do what she's comfortable with, but I always give kudos to the ones who keep their names. happy.gif However, I can understand the tradition of taking on your husband's name.

^-- i knd of a gree with you about doing what they want. Since i'm a guy i won't have to change my name so i guess i can't really say any thing that way laugh.gif i think that when the wife takes the husband's name it kinda makes them realize how they are now bonded together... most people don't think of marrage in that way

My mom kept her last name, as did my maternal grandmother. I don't think it should matter. You have that choice when you are married; it's not as if you must change it. Do what you want. thumbsup.gif

I'm not changing mine. I will forever be known as Mona Lisa.

I'd like to keep my last name. Keeping my surname and taking my husband's surname would be nice too though.

I'm keeping mine, unless I meet someone with the last name Laurence so it could be Lauren Laurence thumbsup.gif

I kid,

I'm the last generation of my family so my kids are going to have my last name too.

My boyfriends last name has both of his parents last names combined. The hypen and everything, So think about it if I wanted to marry him. lol AND keep my last name as well?
oh boy. . .

Smith-Green-Milwakch.

[THose aren't really the last names of his and mine, but i'm not posting them on the interent lol, be kinda weird]

But yeah, i would like to take my husbands last name, shows more that we are married and such, that i'm part of the family. If I kept my own last name it would be kinda nice though, I do like my name, and I don't see how any last name would fit better with my name.

I loooooove my last name. If I ever get married I will probably keep it, adding my husband's last name on the end. The only downfall is that my kids will HATE it. My name is not only long (12 letters) but also really hard for people to say.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do. My last name isn't common at all in the United States, theres only about 7 in the whole US. I think theres a few more over in England but thats it.

I think that when I do get married I will take my husbands last name though, I don't know it just seems like the right thing to do?

My last name is 11 letters long. I use to hate it as a kid but I have come to like that not many people have it as a last name. On the other hand I don't really like it because the most people misspell it and its quite annoying on what they come up with pinch.gif

How come? It's a common practice and may be considered a 'tradition' to some, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the right thing to do (at least to me).

^I think its the tradition part. I would find it weird to have to keep my last name and then my husband have his. Then when we had kids I would hate to have to give the kid both of the last names. It makes things easier also.

I've thought of this long and hard before, so I guess my mind really doesn't work normally. There plenty of other reasons too. I just got to think about them again.

I like my last name. It's fun watching people try to pronounce it.

*shrugs* My last name is uber-weird. I don't know if that's more reason to keep it, or more reason to get rid of it ASAP. Osthoff... it's German. -.- It's my dad's last name, so I think I'll most likely change it given the chance! ^^

I like the "husband's surname-wife's surname" combo as well :D

I would miss my last name a lot. Although it's not very impressive or anything.

I agree with you. I like my last name because it flows with my name well. But it depends. Most likely i'll either keep my last name or do the husband-wife surname thing.

Hmm, I think getting it hyphenated sounds a little awkward..
I'd just take my husband's name because I hate mine. It's too short and sounds funny.

No, I don't think Mona's last name is. I doubt it. She's Indian, Suzzette, that couldn't be possible. XD.gif

Maybe it's something Bihari, (Bihar = state in India) like "Gupta" or "Sharma."

I'm pretty sure that I'll take my husband's last name when I get married. My name's really boring. Besides, even though I'm not necessarily a "traditionalist" often, I do like the traditions of weddings and marriage and taking names and whatnot.
