Well seeing that there isnt a hispanic orientated club on here i decided to start one.

Here we will talk about anything hispanic related.
food.music.travel.politics.culture.language.anything and everything.

You dont have to be Hispanic to join, a hispanic at heart is just as good as a real one.

However there are a few rules before you can join.

Rules
--No member bashing. this also includes derrogitive terms for a hispanic
Even Beaner and even if you are hispanic yourself..
Spic: A highly offensive term referring to a Spanish-speaking person from Mexico, Central or South America, Spain, or Portugal
--Some chit chat is alowed. but all out lets-talk-about-my-dog chat that disrupts the whol purpose of this topic is not allowed
-- Dont be afraid to ask questions if you really want to know what "chinga tu madre" means.
[its a bad phrase lol] then ask away.
--Which brings me to this. If you know spanish profanity, dont use it in here
-- And finaly if you do decide to post in spanish PLEASE provide a translation as some members are not all "fluent" in the language.

So join away.
And if anyone is intrested in making graphics for this club. them post them =]

Egun on. :) (Basque for good morning/good day)

I'm Israeli and Spanish (Basque in heritage). :) I'll join. Most of my Spanish relatives are dead, but my mom and aunt are still alive and my mom really is the only one with any interest in our Spanish ancestry.

I'm quite fond of Pisto (which is like ratatouille, if you know what that is), particularly when it's served on crepes. throb.gif

Omg, yes! There's this place called "Pico de Gallo" (it's Mexican) and their chicken flautas are so crispy and light. And their salsa is so chunky and spicy, mmmmm. ¡Me encanta!

Pico de gallo is not hot!! I love Mexican food, esp. when it's spicy. There is a little place called Los Dos Molinos, absolutely amazing. They have the spiciest salsa, it's delish.

My name is Joselyn.

I've never had real mexican food.

ive had dominican food, but at my house all we eat is puerto rican food obviously. My favorite puerto rican food is guanimes. i doubt ppl know what it is. i wouldnt be able to explain it either.

yes there is more than just arroz con gandules and flan in the Puerto Rican culture.

^The only thing I can correct from your Spanish is that it's "problemas" not "problems." I think your Spanish grammar is very good.

I am not Hispanic nor born in America. I am Chinese and I was born in Hong Kong.

I don't think I have tried real Hispanic food, I see places like Taco Bell, Del Taco, El Pollo Loco, etc. that are just AMERICANIZED MEXICAN FOOD.

First of all.As much as i am OPEN to awnser questions there are some that are entirely rude. i have specificaly posted that racist comments even ones like that are offencive
sterotyping also applys in that.

but i will still try to awnser you
with this.

1.THERE IS NOT ACTUAL f**king "JUMPING OF THE BOARDER"
its really a bunch of mexicans running past a boarder line...

2. I as a hispanic will tell you that not every mexican came over here in such a way. again sterotyping much?

3.No...again i have to stress that not every mexican comes to america flying or jumping over great fences or anything.

did that help?

edit

I hate reggaeton with a passion. lmao
and i am the biggest selena fan ever.

To make a few things clear:

1. Mexico is a very poor country & American offers so much more to them, like everyone else who comes to America whether it's legally or illegally.

2. It's not all Mexicans who "jump the border" as you call it. People from Europe and other places do it also.

3. If America were to send all immigrants away, only Native Americans would have the right to live here.

Please don't think it's only Mexicans who enter illegally.

I don't understand why Picasso's work is so attractive.

I've never watched the movie Frida nor have seen much of her work, so I have yet to make a conclusion about her.

Diego Rivera, on the other hand, I adore. His murals are powerful and amazing, I hope that one day I'll be able to see them first-hand.

Oh and Diana, if you would be so kind, consider me part of the club. :]

I think Picasso isn't attractive because the cubism style seems odd to most people. But I think the shapes fascinate me.

Yolanda Saldivar is currently serving a life-sentence in Texas.

I thought Ms. Lopez did an excellent job portraying her. It wasn't just an imitation, she really acted her heart out.

i saw on tv yesterday that Yolanda in 18 more years she can file to be left out of jail but after a list load of conditions. I doubt that she will be free. ugh she is so freakin ugly. and she still says it was all an accident and how can she kill her best friend....she pisses me off.

I LOVED the movie. jlo did a good job of portraying Selena.

so uh who here likes regeatton? i know i do !
on my name's jen

so question. anyone here embarassed of being latino?
cuz some of my friends are. personally I'm not. I'm a proud latina
I embrace my culture and live it. I am American AND Latina.

the one thing that does upset me is the fact that people ASSUME anyone who looks latino or speaks spanish is mexican. I'm sorry but we're not all Mexicans. i just think that people can be ignorant sometimes. There are Guatemalans. Peruvians. Nicaraguans. not only Mexicans.
I mean i love mexicans, but i dunno i think people need to be imformed that latinos are made up of many different nationalities.

yeah.
really i dont see what peoples issues are against minority scholarships.
i had a couple small latinas in the fine arts scholarships to help me pay my way through culinary arts school.
but my biggest 20,000 dollar one was from the ACF [american culinary federation] for being the top chef in a state competion. _smile.gif
so i mean its not like thats all i relied on from college.

i see that you guys were talking about art. i think im going to a Botero ( i belive his name is Botero. ya know that artist that paints people in the shape of a mandolin? i think a mandolin) well yeah ima be going to one of his exhibits pretty soon. And i wanna see the movie Frida.

what people dont realize is that the illegals are doing jobs the typical american WILL NOT DO. i mean, are you really gonna go srub a toilet if you know you can get a better job jsut because you are legal? does that make sense to anyone? im not illegal. us citizen all the way. so i dont really know how the whole illegal stuff works and getting citizenship and all the complicated stuff.
also, people here in the US need to freaken get through their heads that hispanics are NOT the only ones to come over illegally, there are europeans, africans, asians... people from all over the world want to have a better life and live in the United States of America.

does anyone know about the whole gaining citizenship by marrying someone from the country???? what if they divorce? does the person who's not technically american lose their citizenship???

ohhh and ive seen the movie Frida. I like it.

my aunt named her dogs Diego and Frida haha its cute!

I heard that movie ( a day without a Mexican ) brought up a lot of controversy. I haven't seen the movie but I think the idea behind the movie es muy bueno, y algo que creo que todo los "americanos" que no quieren nosotros latinos immigrantes aqui. Lo deben que ver y entender la importancia de ellos *es very good, and something that I think all the "Americans" that don't want us latino immigrants here. They should see it and see the importance of them*

does anyone here read the spanish literary books (AP Spanish 5) I've read a lot of them because of my spanish class like: Cervantes, Quevedo, Gongora, de la Vega, and MUCH MUCH more. that class is so hard =/

My friend had to read Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabrial Garcia Marquez in Spanish, and she found it rather difficult. This year I'll be reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by the same author, and apparentely it's a great but difficult book. And to mention very detailed. shifty.gif

I've also read Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel; apparently magical realism is very popular with Latin authors.

ah i never really cared much for chicano literature.

I find that the dialouge in those type of books really stiff and theres no emotion to the characters.
and that its always the same senario over and over. not to mention the over use of "magical realism "

idk i proably havent read any good ones

Although I respect your opinions, I disagree with those who say that Americans don't want the jobs illegal Mexicans are doing.

The reason illegal Mexicans are doing the so-called "dirty work" is because they have no choice. Those jobs pay very little and have almost no benefits attached to them. Americans are not willing to take those jobs because they have the choice. Illegal Mexicans very well know that they are being exploited but cannot do anything about it because they are afraid of revealing their immigrant status. Adding to that is the fact that immigrant labor laws are not being enforced properly in this country.

If so-called "dirty work" starts offering higher pay and better benefits, Americans will take the jobs.

ha thats interesting for homework i have to read one of his short stories.

Im not sure where stand oh the whole illegal immigration situation. I do think that it has been blown up into major porportions. I think what bothers me about it is that the media has been making it seem like only hispanics are the ones who are crossing over illegally. Perhaps they are the ones who are doing it the most but they are not the ONLY ONES.

Well, I am not necessarily against illegal immigration since that would make me a hypocrit. I used to be illegal, not by choice, however. My parents decided to leave the comforts of the old country (Mexico) to come to the US. The joke of it was that the relatives that live in Mexico, are way better off than my shady-ass relatives that live here in the US. In fact, the ones that live here have found a way to collect on Welfare. How's that for Mexican pride? Viva la raza, lazy-ass, welfare collecting, raza. In fact, my Mexican relatives are educated, have professional careers, and doing very well. Hmm... Does this mean that all you need is an education to pull ahead??? Well let's see. We get all these immigrant workers from India that take away the jobs ear-marked for Americans. No one really complains because it helps companies' bottom lines. Yet, take a lettuce-picking job from an "American" and give it a Mexican, and oh boy, wait not fair. What is wrong with this picture?

Why can't my fellow Mexicans stay in their countries, go to school, get educated, fix the problems in their country, and make their existence better? Why do they feel that they have to boycott and protest becuase the American government doesn't want them here? Why don't they protest their own shady corrupt government? Why don't they instill change over there?

I am Mexican and yet I am disgusted by all the ones that come up here and expect handouts, or think that they are owed something. I'm also disgusted at the Mexicans in Mexico for being so corrupt and not making things better. Doesn't their Catholic religion teach them to be better Christians? No wonder my father always jokes about how hell has to be big enough to hold all these Mexicans...

I agree alot of my relatives are very lazy and its all about viva la raza with them.I remmber being in school and all the chicanos would be like "im not going to school tommrow in protest". i always thought when they did stuff like that they truely didnt understand the meaning of what those protests were.

^ heh thanks, yeah sorry about that.

My Opinion On Illegal Immigration:
For some reason people think I'm illegal just because I was born in Guatemala. Well FYI, I was adopted, and I have a green card. I'm a citizen.

What I hate is that now a days, including my best friend, almost everyone thinks all hispanics are illegal or atleast classifys them as illegal. I mean for example, me and my supossedly "best friend" rides this bus and theres this girl whos hispanic who always tells my friend to just "hurry up" I think she dislikes us but back to the point, me and my friend were discussing it and she said "I wish i could just tell that hispanic slut to just go back to mexico bitch" and I just stood there standing like "Excuse me?" and see the the thing is this isn't the first time shes said something like that... well there were these guys working on our road to fix it, and well they were staring at us and she was like "EW! I DONT WANT TO BE RAPED BY SOME ILLEGAL MEXICAN RAPIST" and I was like.. "Omg." and she'll admit she's racist, and I ask her "Why do you accept me then?" and she say's because I was raised by white people. mellow.gif And well I tell her "Well if your gonna be racist, you don't have to be racist infront of someone of that race." I mean seriously, its just so stupid.

If they say all illeagal imigrants have to go home, well that means we'd have to back in time and send all the british who came here because all this land really did belong to the Native Americans Which is why they're called native americans.

Yes, I know I'm double posting. Whatever.

I think before Mexicans keep coming in, they should talk to people who started illegal immigration: the Spaniards.

I mean, they didn't tread into the Americas, go up to the Inca/Aztecs and be like, "OMG we want welfare plzzzzz give us!11" Nuh-uhhh. They were some BAMF's, they took it to the next level. They were like, "Mira, puto, esta es NUESTRA tierra ahora. Si no te gusta, podemos matarte, ¿claro? Vale." (Look, bitch, this is OUR land now. If you don't like it, we can kill you, 'kay? Kay. (Vale = "okay" in Spain.) ). And they're doing it BIG now, ya tú sabes. (you know). The Spaniards had illegal immigration down to an artform, fool. yeahhhhh.

(Note: This is only a joke, so please don't be offended.)

(you know). The Spaniards had illegal immigration down to an artform, fool. yeahhhhh.

(Note: This is only a joke, so please don't be offended.)

don't forget the mayans. blush.gif
