Well, you can make your pictures grey, but not just the image. You change that on your own.
CODE <style>a:link img { filter:gray;} a:hover img { filter:gray;}</style> I'm not too sure about changing it for JUST the default pic. I'm a bit out of it tonight

if you open adobe photoshop then you can do the following: image>mode>grayscale
then save it and if you want to change the contrast go to: image>adjustments>brightness/contrasst itll still be black and white just different levels of it. this works for any version of Adobe Photoshop. |

^ It really depends on what image program the topic starter has. If they haven't solved the issue I'm sure they'll post again. I think you also change it in default paint if you go to Image > Attributes.
