Well, I have read an article at http://mugglenet.com and I have become semi-convinced that Snape is portraying a facade to all but Dumbledore. I also agree that Dumbledore was not begging for HIS life in his death scene, but for Harry's (two brooms = Snape's not an idiot).

Hm....well, I've always thought of him as evil. Examples:

1) Once was a Death Eater
2) Still refers to Voldemort as the "Dark Lord," as Death Eaters do
3) Killed off Dumbledore

3) Killed off Dumbledore

Once was a Death Eater >>> was spying for Dumbledore
Still refers to Voldy as the "Dark Lord" >>> an obvious way to keep his cover
Killed off Dumbledore >>> he had no choice but to make the Unbreakable Vow in his situation, so he had to kill Dumbledore, which we all knew was going to happen eventually anyways

Any other examples?

Just simply the way he hates Harry & his family and totally favors Slytherins means he's got something to do with them. and obviously, many Slytherin's parents were Death Eaters.

edited/
although Snape is conspicuously bad, the stories usually end with the bad guy really as someone you'd never thought it'd be. So Snape won't be one of the 'ultimate' bad guys in the end, i guarantee it.

i think that while snape's motives may not be purely good, I do think that he is working to stop voldemort.

Snape = Bad = TOO OBVIOUS

:D

He made the Unbreakable Vow and had to kill Dumbledore. I do not think, even being as weak as he was at the time of his death he would have ever begged for his life. That just wasn't fiesty old Albus. It just wasn't.

FOR REAL!

I mean, how much BETTER will the book be if harry has to work with snape in the end? Rowling knows her charactrs too well to make it a simple 'harry gets revenge on snape' thing

Snape just cannot be completely evil. It's obvious that he dislikes Harry so much because of past events with James Potter but other than that, he's doing a great job of keeping his personal/real motives hidden. He works on and with both sides but we haven't really been sufficient clues as to WHICH side he's really on. We can all speculate until the seventh book comes out. :D

Nah. Rowling can't do that. Though that would certainly be interesting.

She wouldn't dare.

^only because of the unbreakable vow.

most likely, dumbledore knew about the unbreakable vow, and asked severus to do it so draco wouldn't have to. he knew draco wouldn't, which is why he was pleading for snape to kill him.

I bet Dumbledore made Snape kill him, like to show Voldemort that he's on his side just so he could spy on him and get info for the Order, so that then they could go and kick some Voldy ass.

HEY! SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE!

Shhhhhhhhhh...You'll wake up the kids!

Well technically, Snape made Snape killed Dumbledore by suggesting the Unbreakable Vow. wink.gif

Still, that was to prove a point and I don't think it was what he really wanted to happen.

Oh and James, ewwww to Snape being Papa Harry Potter. You just made me lose my dinner. (jk)

This thread is starting to bum me out. After the next book, nothing to speculate. Although, we can always make our own decisions on the fates of our beloved characters.

Go fanfic! rofl

LOL Harry the Hormone Factory...

The most annoying and most boring part of the fifth book (?) was the time around Valentine's Day. I couldn't stand to continue reading.

----

I remember finding a fanfic where the seventh book was written in the perspective of Snape's daughter and she got into Gryffindor.

Hmm...so many different opinions. But does anybody have any proof or evidence or WHATEVER - deep breath - besides Dumbledore's death? There has to be something else on this board.

What about when Snape saved Harry's life in the first book?

^ I know. But he hated James. Why would he even want to repay his debt? I'm sure he'd be perfectly happy ignoring life's debts if he was Voldemort's man. And that brings us to Wormtail. I wonder how/if he'll repay his debt to Harry.

well, i only read the books, i don't sit around thinking about this stuff in depth, if i did i would drive myself crazy. so i don't have any particular personal opinion of my own, but i think that J.K. Rowling makes it seem like Snape is evil, i mean he killed Dumbledore! but i could see some sort of plot twist where Snape's actions were really because he is good and not evil. i don't know, i probably don't make sense...

sigh, he is evilllllllll.

but i mean, it would be a nice plot twist in the 7th book.
you know, snape being good and all and saving harry
or what not.

but i'd more like to know why dumbledore trusted him.

and still. . . no, i don't think he can be good.
he killed an awesome character.
you just don't do that.

I always switch thinking if he's evil or good depending on the things he pulls so I've decided he's working for himself. But I think he's more evil than good.

Evil. I think Snape was a bullied, unsociable kid growing up, who loved Lily but watched her ride off into the sunset with the hero Quidditch player James. Of course, anyone would turn to the dark side of the force after that bs, but I think after death dealing for so long and Volde's fall, he wanted to atone for his sins. He stayed completely loyal to Dumble to try and forgive himself. But honest now, leaving the fate of the wizarding world on Harry's shoulders to face Volde, I think he still wished the worst for the son of his bitter enemy.
