Reuters article.
QUOTE PARIS (Reuters) - A French court ruled Tuesday that an organization with far-right links can continue offering pork soup to the homeless, rejecting police complaints that the food distribution was racist. Police banned the soup kitchen last month, arguing that the handouts discriminated against Jews and Muslims who do not eat pork on religious grounds. Ok, so they want to make a political statement of some sort. Actually lets rephrase that. They want to get publicity prior the forthcoming french elections. That's fine, but at least they could have the guts to not pull the stunt on those that have no ability to defend themselves from the "joke". Somedays, politics are just fantastic. |

Admitedly, I'm not too well read in this subject, but what's wrong with them offering pork soup? Unless it's exclusively what they offer, I fail to see a major issue here. If they do not offer alternatives to those who do not each pork, due to religious or spiritual beliefs, then yes, they should expand their menu.
Having said that, so if they don't offer you what you want because of your own religious/preferences that should mean they shouldn't offer it to anyone? |

Apparently, it's the only meal option offered (otherwise the article wouldn't make much sense O_o). I am currently looking through other news sources to see if I can confirm/deny that. A quick post editting will follow in any case, that's for sure =) . If we look at it from the good side some people will benefit from such an initiative; other than that the SDF's gesture does fall right on the tasteless side of funny. Admittedly it's not a major political issue, but it's neither a charity effort as it is using the homeless as a tool to make a statement. And that's low despite of which side of the political spectrum does it. EDIT: The only other article I have found on the subject has been through Reuters "Oddly Enough" news section. Which is basically the one I linked above :( . |
