it's spelled masturbation...haha.

i'm not christian, and i used to masturbate. i don't anymore because i have a boyfriend but i really don't think there's anything wrong with it. i think that christians are against masturbation but i'm not sure. hell, there are religious christians who drink even though they go to church and stuff. masturbation is A LOT less harmful than drinking and it's actually healthy because it relieves stress and relaxes your body.

^ i agree.

i don't think masturbating is either good or bad based on religion, if it's you want it or crave it you know? i've read that it's healthy, so why not. i don't see anything wrong it, especially in terms of the religion. i'm sure that religions all might have their views on it, but it shouldn't effect you on whether or not you do it or not, lol, unless you're completely devout christian or something.

I think it's natural. I know that Christian's are against pre-marital sex but that's a completely different thing than touching yourself.

ahh, masturbation is completely normal. its what your body craves, why deny it? as for religion.. well, it is a sin if youre a christian. but they should take in consideration that the human body is weak & we're not all so perfect. masturbate if you want, its nothing bad! happy.gif

I go to a christian camp every summer.. and the last summer they had like an hour discussion about it.
and it is indeed a sin. They gave a bunch of verses from the Bible.. showing how it's sinful. I don't remember them off the top of my head, but I'll look for them.

I agree (excluding the "quack" remark). I mean, you can still be a good Christian and masturbate, I'm sure. It doesn't make you a bad person either. Personally, I think it's perfectly healthy. And like Intercourse said, it's better than going out and actually having sex if you're not ready. I see no wrong with it either way though, if you don't because of your faith, or if you do because you want to.

It's your body - if you want to, go for it.

The Bible teaches you to be a good person. If masturbating is something you enjoy or it helps you calm down, then go for it. It's not hurting anyone, and it's actually good for you.
The Bible may have said not to masturbate, but they did not have the medical research back then to know what we know now. I'm sure if Jesus or the apostles had had the resources to find out the truth about masturbation, they would have wanted you to do it.
It all depends whether you take the Bible 100% literally, even though we live in a modern world, or if you're willing to take it a little more liberally, and just try to be a good person (which makes more sense to me, personally).
If you take it all literally, you'll think masturbation is a sin, being homosexual is a sin, and if a maiden kisses a lad before marriage you must kill 3 of their goats.
Note the sarcasm.
If you take it liberally, you'll think masturbation is okay, you'll know that scientifically being homosexual is in our genes, and is no more punishable than having blonde hair, and that the Bible, when applied to this day and age, should just be interpreted as "you should be a good person".
Sorry for the long post! Good luck figuring out your religious beliefs. You're lightyears ahead of most people for even *thinking* about this stuff; good for you.

Oh-- here's another way to think about it: Jesus gave you a brain so you could USE it. So think: Your friend masturbates and it helps her feel good. She's not hurting anyone or anything, it just helps her feel good. Is that really something that YOU feel is a sin?

Oh-- here's another way to think about it: Jesus gave you a brain so you could USE it. So think: Your friend masturbates and it helps her feel good. She's not hurting anyone or anything, it just helps her feel good. Is that really something that YOU feel is a sin?

Let's clarify the definition of sin, shall we? You can sin without hurting anyone or anything. Sinning is just the act of violating the laws of God. Though the Bible doesn't specifically say anything regarding masturbation, I think we can also use our brains here to make connections. In the Bible, it is a sin to have impure thoughts, namely sexual fantasies, that are often linked to masturbation. So you say that you don't have fantasies, does this mean you are still sinning? Yes. In 1st Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? Therefore honor God with your body." So if we are suppose to use our bodies to honor or glorify the Lord, I'm pretty sure that masturbation does not fall into that category. Therefore, the absence of honoring God with your body deems masturbation a sin. Not to mention, masturbation is like a lie. It starts out with one small thing, but then it gradually increases to a couple and becomes easier to ignore the feeling of guilt. When something begins to control you, this is a sin.

*Please note that these are my morals, the beliefs I am taught. I'd appreciate your willingness to be open to my ideas, just as I will be to yours.

Once again, sinning isn't about hurting others. It's about not obeying God. Even a good thing can be a sin if you don't have the right intentions. You could donate a million dollars to a charity because you want to get recognized as a 'good person'. That is selfish, because you're not donating with a pure heart; you're donating for fame, for attention. This is a sin. But are you really hurting anybody in the process? No, not really. In fact, you are actually benefitting the charity, but not for the right reasons. For the Bible tells us,
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." On the earth, the donation will reward you with recognition. But if you donate with a pure heart, you'll be rewarded with the riches of heaven.

The Bible isn't just a book; it's God's words; it's how Christians should live our lives according to it. Not to mention, the word "bible" can be used to describe any book authoritative or reliable in its field. So I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't use such a derogatory phrase.

That is alright. Everybody is entitled to his/her own's opinion. I am not trying to sway anybody one way or another. Heck, if you like masturbating, then you probably won't stop just because some random asian girl from cB tells you that it's a sin. I am simply being informative of the beliefs of my faith.

Why must my family baptize me under the name of Mary! cry.gif

_dry.gif I highly disagree with what I was being taught
when I was younger since I'm supposedly catholic.

I dislike being told to be god's version of some
mostly pure spectacular angelic being
to enter the pearly blissful gates of heaven.

I rather know from the bottom of my
heart what is good and what is evil or learn it on my own
then be told from someone else and gulp
down someone else's version of how things are.
Masterbating sin? BAHUMBUG.

QUOTE(Lil_Cloud @ Dec 31 2006, 4:42 PM) *

But if you donate with a pure heart, you'll be rewarded with the riches of heaven.

homosexuality is hurting the person who thinks that way, they could go to hell! And as far as masturbation that's a touchy subject to talk with people, well .sept on the internet sense u dont have to see their faces :]]

first of all, you don't go to hell for being homosexual, even though it is a sin, a homosexual could still be saved and JUST because he is homosexual doesn't mean God won't forgive him, therefore they will go to heaven according to John 3:16.

Don't automatically asume homosexuals are going to hell, just because your pastor tells you so.

It's not up to you to judge people, that's Gods job.

I don't think it's a sin, only that the Bible mentions a "man" would, as someone pointed out, "waste his seed". People interpret the Bible in their own ways.

I'd just go along with how you feel, sure. Of course I'm kinda slipping toward agnosticism from the extreme Catholicism that I was raised up with so I wouldn't exactly know.

The thing is for me personally, the thought that's keeping me from doing it is being able to save it to share with some special guy, hopefully my future husband. Just so it would be all the more special. But that's just me thumbsup.gif

It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable.

Aint nothing wrong with it, what makes it corrupt is the big deal everyone makes out of it, bringing religious and political or whatever bullcrap factors they could into it. Just keep it simple. Do it if you please, don't if you don't want to.

Although isnt it true that we are forgiven if we are truely sorry for our sins and ask the lord for forgivness?

so what you are saying is that if we are indeed going to sin again isnt it then imposible for us to be forgiven? so in theroy Jesus died for what? forgive thouse who will be without sin? isnt that the way it was before he gave his life for us? I beleave the lord wants us to try to be without sin... live our life with the lord in every aspect of our day to day lives...

The lord is understanding he knows that we are easerly influenced... he knows what we are thinking although he has patiants and he is loving in every way... he will forgive us for every sin when we ask for forgivnes... sin after sin... all he ask's in return is that we love him and be thankfull for his forgivness.

wouldnt you forgive your kids if they smoked weed and then got busted? and then the next week they do it again? you still forgive them wouldnt you? the lord knows it is difficult to be pure he sent his son to know the true feeling of what it is like to be on earth away from gods presence... god had no qlue before he sent jesus...

I go to a christian camp every summer.. and the last summer they had like an hour discussion about it.
and it is indeed a sin. They gave a bunch of verses from the Bible.. showing how it's sinful. I don't remember them off the top of my head, but I'll look for them.

can you PM me with the verses.
im a christian && i want to look them up.
is it a sin for a girl too?

masturbation is perfectly normal and fine. despite what crazy baptists might say, it's not a sin. better masturbation than sex, right?

I resent that. I'm a baptist, and I...yeah. Anyway, there was a sermon from a well-known African-American baptist minister (female) and she said that it's healthy, and absolutely not a sin. So boo yah.

it's spelled masturbation...haha.

i'm not christian, and i used to masturbate. i don't anymore because i have a boyfriend but i really don't think there's anything wrong with it. i think that christians are against masturbation but i'm not sure. hell, there are religious christians who drink even though they go to church and stuff. masturbation is A LOT less harmful than drinking and it's actually healthy because it relieves stress and relaxes your body.

i hate the fact that there are religions out there telling people what they can and cannot do with their own bodies. masturbation is completely harmless and if someone wants to do it, then that's their own decision. why do some people think it's necessary to be in someone else's private business?

Ok, you asked for it...so christianity wise...yes, it is considered a sin. Bottom line is any sexual act, thought, words are not to be used out of marriage. However, it happens and its no more of a sin then over eating or lying...so you are the decision maker in this situation.

I feel religion should not dictate whether or not one has the right to participate in something that harms no one and is perfectly healthy/stress-relieving.

masturbation is not a sin.
Nowhere in the bible does it say masturbation is a sin. It is often confused with Onanism, but Onan's sin was to withdraw during sex and spill his seed.
i am christain. and i find nothing wrong with masturbation.

- and to every one who feels we should take the bible literally: it is impossible because no one takes the entire bible literally. Perhaps you are aware of people who advocate self-mutilation in obedience to Jesus’ words in Mark 9. I'm not. And if we were to execute children who insult their parents as is written in Deuteronomy 21, we’d all be dead. _dry.gif

People masturbating should have NOTHING to do with any type of religion. I mean in all religions don they want people to be happy? Masturbating bring great pleasure leading to happiness. But people should do what THEY want to do because they want to do it not because they religion says to or not to

Humans naturally crave sex. It's in our genetics. Unless you're extemely abnormal, you're going to crave some kind of sexual pleasure. Even if you say you don't, for God.

Personally, if I were Christian, I'd advocate Masturbation above going out &having sex with someone.

Oh, and by the way.. Babies masturbate, it's been proven. Obviously, they're not thinking of sex or anything, they do it because it feels good. =]

Anyone who thinks that people shouldn't masturbate, or have sex are just prudes. For that matter, we shouldn't hold hands, or kiss, right? If you think we shouldn't masturbate, maybe you should try it sometime. Then you'd change your mind. Personally, I don't masturbate. I do things with my boyfriend.

Think about this for a second.. What would happen if no one had sex? Population would suffer.

Sex doctors say the best way to practice at sex, is to masturbate, also. The longer you can hold off your climax, the better. =x

One final thing, masturbation has, indeed, proven to release stress.

I wasn't saying that He wouldn't forgive us anyway.
But can people honestly be that selfish to know what they are doing is wrong and still continue to do it..and know that they are still going to do it without any effort to stop but to just keep asking for forgiveness... (answer: yes)
For those of you who don't believe in the Bible.. that's just great for you, go ahead live how you want. I'm just giving my opinion.
