I think you should just go up to your mom and be like "Mom, I'm almost an adult! I think it's time for you to start treating me like one and tell me why dad left." or something like that.
If she doesn't tell you, there's probably a good reason as to why. She might be trying to protect you from something. Maybe it's best that you don't call your dad first. I think you should ask your mom if it's ok to call him because you might find out some things that you don't want to know if you call him first. |

I agree with Elaine. I think you should tell your mom directly - ask her face to face. If she doesn't want to tell you, maybe she doesn't want to hurt you. I dunno, but it's best to be safe. But go with your best feelings.

then you need to tell her that this is really important to you. if she still doesn't tell you the truth, you can warn her and say that you will contact your father and find out from him. either way, both your parents owe you an explanation as to why one of them disappeared for so long.

you should just call your dad, i mean, he was your dad! i would just call without a hesitation. you have the right to kno why your dad left you. even if it was a good/bad reason. just go up to your mom and be like "if you dont tell me why dad left us, then i will contact him and find out from him." but there could be a possibilty that your mom told your dad a long time ago not to tell you.

from a legal standpoint
she HAS to tell you the reasons why your father left and she HAS to respect your right as his daughter to try and contact him you could even say right now "i want to live with my father" and shed have to honor that. especialy that your in 11th grade and im assuming your 16 you have even more rights to know. but thats in the united states. |

That's not true. 16 means that you're still a minor! Dude. 18 is when you're an adult. She doesn't have to say anything. She should, though. She doesn't necessarily have to. And if she says that she wants to live with her father, and her mother disapproves, she can't just walk out. Her mother probably has full custody of her. And if she's 16, she definitely can't just run out to look for her father. She's still a minor. |
