CELEB FEUD: CLAY AIKEN & ROSIE O'DONNELL VS. KELLY RIPA
There's been a war of words raging on morning TV this week. On Monday, Kelly Ripa voiced displeasure with Clay Aiken and now Rosie O'Donnell is criticizing her for it.

It all started on Friday, Nov. 17 when Clay Aiken substituted for talk-show host Regis Philbin on Live! With Regis and Kelly. Aiken, the former American Idol runner-up from Season 2, joined Kelly Ripa in an interview with Emmitt Smith, the newly crowned Dancing with the Stars winner. Aiken, desperate to chime into a lively banter, put his hand over Ripa's mouth so he could begin his own line of questions. Kelly responded by declaring, "Oh, that's a no-no," then adding, "I don't know where that hand's been, Honey!"

Ripa addressed Aiken's actions on Monday's show, saying, "There was some impropriety there. There was a lack of respect, and when you're a certain person, you're in the public eye, you have to be respectful of other people and I don't think he was respectful in any way."

However, when joking about the situation with Regis, Kelly said, "It was cold and clammy and I don't want your hand on my mouth under any circumstance! Unless I'm choking on a shrimp!"

Backlash to the remark has been heard far and wide, most prominently on The View Tuesday morning. Rosie O'Donnell said, "To me that's a homophobic remark. If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy that she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing." (Aiken does not discuss his sexuality publicly.)

Ripa called in to the live show to defend herself arguing that she's just germ-conscious. "I have three kids (and) he's shaking hands with everybody in the audience. It's cold and flu season. That's what I meant, and to imply that it's homophobic is outrageous, Rosie. And you know better. You should be more responsible."
- TARYN ADLER & LAUREN KANE

Here is a summary, a friday ago clay aiken guest starred on kelly and regis live and replaced regis for the day while doing a interview with emmit from dancing with the stars. so during the interview clay covered ripas mouth to cover her from saying something, and she totally didnt like that so she got pissed. then on the same show on monday kelly explained why she got mad, and she said "I dont know where those hands have been..." she said that on her show. So later on, Rosie on THE VIEW commented on that remark and said i think that was a "homophobic comment" and kelly ripa called them back and on the phone during that show and said it was only because she has 3 kids and they have so many germs on their hands and thats what she meant by "who knows where those hands have been. "

so yea it was crazy, any thoughts on who went overboard???

i want to remind you that clay did apologize but went too far when he re-enacted the whole situation on the american music awards as a joke.

and kelly also re-enacted the whole thing also on monday's episode.

Do you think it was a homophobic comment?

Both parties are at fault. The end.

As far as whether or not the statement was homophobic, we'll never know the truth since we don't know her intention for saying that.

Nah, I don't think it was a homophobic comment but I do think Rida went a little overboard in her additional comments about the matter. If that was what she was really concerned with she should have just stated that in the first place. All that " I don't know where your hands have been" business was unneccesary. And cleary she knew where his hands were prior to that incident if she aknowledged that she saw Clay shaking hands with people in the crowd. As for Rosie, I believe she jumped to conclusions way too quick.

I don't think that was a homophobic remark, and I would do the same thing Kelly did, probably. He seems a bit icky... gross.

(Did Aiken ever come out of the closet?)

she meant that putting his hand over her mouth was icky and gross .

and she shouldn't have said anything in public and just ended it backstage you know what i mean. handled it more maturely, then aiken wouldn't of had done the same at the AMAs.

i dont think it was a homophobic remark.
and f**king rosie needs to keep her f**king mouth shut.
i love rosie to death beacsue shes one of the few celebritys that had got me to come out as a bi and be proud.
but there was no reason for her to sit there and try the "hate card" on kelly ripa.
some people dont liked to be touched on the face by a person by random.
yes think the way kelly put it was a little suspisious but even if he was straight im sure she may have refered to him the same way.

the end

First off - Rosie needs to just mind her own damn business instead of mooching off of other people's drama.

Second - So what. I don't like people covering my mouth to shut me up, no matter whose hand it is.

Aiken is just pissed that his few moments of fame are [finally] waning.

??? I thought he did come out. Huh. Then I must be thinking of someone else. whistling.gif

It was wrong for Rosie to be presumptuous about a situation that didn't involve her.

I think Kelly talks to much, and props to Clay Aiken for just shutting her up for 2 seconds.

It probably wasn't right for Rosie to say what she did, but I think if someone like George Clooney covered Kelly's mouth, she would of reacted differently, you know.

It wasn't a homophobic remark, really.
I can see how it could of been taken like that though...

Just I think this whole situation in general is ridiculous.
People need to stop making problems bigger then they really are.
