Uhm, it probably is. Bible says, somewhere, that your body should be a temple unto God and something like that.

And smoking kinda ruins the body, thus taking away the temple title.

Idk.

^ Adam and Eve. The forbidden apple tree? Temptation, I think. Blech. Can't really explain it in detail, but you get what I mean, right?

I agree. Life is supposed to be a gift from God. If you don't cherish it, then you're pretty much disrespecting Him.

^and for the people who are atheist...pretty much disrespecting the parents for bothering to make them.

it doesn't say so in the bible..I think but my youth group discourages smoking, especially since it harms your body and your body is owned by God... if you believe in that sort of stuff.

A painefull euphoria if you believe that then the world might as well not exist since it runs entirely on sin. Christians believe life is a test... to decide whether you're worthy of God's grace and to enter the kingdom of heaven... If God thought sin was worthless we can be right now relaxing in the garden of Eden.

I think you can interpret that way. There's something to the effect of drinking too much is bad because intemperance is bad...I don't remember. Something like that. But I don't necessarily think every single thing in the bible has to be taken literally, like the supposed mention of homosexuality. Or maybe I'm just not much of a Catholic. I don't know, whatever.

Hahaha.... smoking a sin. God put it here, right? Sorry. That was immature of me. I guess it depends on what religion. I'm not religious, but that doesn't mean that I don't believe in right and wrong.

I don't know.
I don't smoke though.
I mean, smoking could kill you right (to some extent..)?
& the way I see it, life is a gift so why throw it away?

I guess it isnt a Sin to smoke as Matthew 15:17-20 says

Anything you eat passes through the stomache and then goes out of the body. But evil words come from an evil heart and defile the person who says them. For from the heart comes evil thoughts, murger, adultery all other sexual immorality, theft, lying and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands could never defile you and make you unnacceptable to God.

But you have to ask why are you smoking? To find peace, selfish reasons? because Mattew 16:24,25 says

If any of you want ot be My follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder the cross and follow me. If you try to keep your life for yourswelf, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, You will find true life.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body

I don't know but I think it comes down to whether smoking adds to your life or consumes your life. I mean, alcohol can be harmful to your body, but one of Jesus' first miracles was turning water wine. And it is known they drank wine during the last summer. So I mean its obviously not a sin to drink it, but I would think it would be a sin to be an alcoholic, because you let alcohol consume your life and if thats all you think about you obviously don't have time for the Lord. So I guess same goes with marajuana. And its health affects aren't as adverse as other things. So I suppose as long as you don't use it to consume your life or pull you away from God, it is okay.

But I'm not God so I don't know all the answers :)

^ Ephesians 5:18

Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin you life. Instead, let the holy spiritfill and control you.

and with the point of using drugs, that entails with no self control

Proverbs 25:28

A person without self-control is as defenseless as a city with broken down walls

Why let some fallacious book dictate your life? That's what I don't understand.

If it were all true, then we're all sinners. We've ALL done something sinful. So technically, we're all going to hell.

(Not.)

But I'll keep quiet. zipped.gif

I didn't say ruining your body, which is the temple of God isn't in the bible..What I meant was I don't remember a verse saying, "Smoking is a sin."

But putting the real verses down is a great help. Answers the topic's questions and erases some of the doubts...At least mine were

definately a big difference between being drunk and drinking.

and to the angelina taylor person, yeah we ARE all sinners, nothing can change that. the idea is to repent for the sins you have commited.

the way i see it, smoking is fair game, so long as you don't choke the non-smokers around you. down w. second hand smoke.

To be completely honest, I don't know the answer to that question. Intuitively, I'd say no. But there's so many possible viewpoitns that I have yet to really decide. But what I have decided is that smoking can't really compared to drinking, since the two are completely different things. Alchohol, when drinked (that can't be the correct word for it) in moderation and properly, has been shown to be beneficial for your health. Smoking, on the other hand, has no advantages, even in moderation.

I would say no. In order to sin you have to break one of the ten comandments. It would be like asking if driving a car to fast is a sin, both have the ability of killing you.
