Hello everybody,

I would like to get your opinion on my new idea. I guess most of you are running a blog.

Imagine you write a blog post about for example Zune. The title would be “Microsoft’s new mp3 player – Zune”. Under this blog post, you usually have links like “Digg this”, “Bookmark this at del.icio.us”, “Add Comment” or “Sphere It”. Now, imagine you have there another link saying, “Discuss this” or “Chat about this live”. This link will pop up a new window with chat from [link removed]. This chat will automatically create a chat room with the name of your blog post the first time somebody clicks the link. All users will go directly to that room and chat about your blog post.

Since [content removed] is cross-site chat, anybody chatting in [content removed] on any other site can search for tags and easily find your blog post room and join it and chat with others.

The whole point is giving your blog readers the option to discuss your blog post and allow other people interested in that topic to join them in discussion. The details on how it is done by plugins are not important at the moment. I want to find out what do you think about the idea.

What do you think about this idea as a blog owner? What do you think about it as a blog reader?

Thanks for your replies.

No advertising.

Most people read blogs at different times, though.. so what if there's no one to chat with ?

Also, not sure if this counts as advertising.

I would think it would have to be a pretty popular blog for that to work out well.
It seems unlikely that too many people would read and enter the chatroom at the same time.

well that's the inportant part of the message, but you don't know since they took my link away. So I have to explain it. The chat is centralized cross-site chat. That means that visitor from one site can see visitors from other sites in rooms.

Back to the topic - true this might not work very well for smaller blogs as it was suggested but what if chat will search for a room with tags relevant to the post and join that room. This way can group users more efficiently. What do u think?

Moved to Feedback since this is a suggestion on how to improve the site.

^ But this is about blogs and adding a chat to them, not anything about createBlog, isn't it?

^ I get cha. I thought he meant cB with the whole topic and blog thing.

Yeah, you'd have to sell this to big blogs that get a ton of hits everyday or I don't think I'd work very well. Especially for a personal blog. I really like the idea though. thumbsup.gif

Arjuna Capulong, the person isnt trying to "advertise" or to promote that website. he/she is trying to make things clearer and set example. _unsure.gif

^ Ha ha, actually, depending on how you read it, it sounded more like an advertisement. Just with a really good cover-up.

The person had absolutely no posts or anything else at the time, and you could still discuss it without any links anyway, so I didn't see how it would hurt otherwise.

We may never know... Unless of course the topic starter says so. rolleyes.gif
