Ok, I am really in a bad mood right now.
I like to right down what I do every day. It's just a thing that I just started doing because it is a thing that my grandmother still dose. She is 85 and she has boxs apon boxs of books telling about what she did during her day when she was young. She started when she was my age (15) and I thought it would be cool if I got older and went back through the books that I rote in and see how stupid and young I was. It is my way to get anger and stress and my happyness. Anything I am really feeling that that time. It is mine to share with my self when I got older or if I want to look back if a few months past and I get bored. So, What would you do if you mother went through your stuff and found your "diary" and told your dad to tell me that I was grounded because I said somthing that was not of their liking. I mean come on that is my stuff she had no right to go through it. |

I have a few journals, a box of little things like cards and another box of old notes from friends from middle school. It's still nice to look back at them even though it's only been a handful of years.
I think you should definitely talk to your parents about that because they shouldn't be going through your diary. But it's a little understandable that they would be curious about it. They just want to know what's going on in your life and make sure that you're not like cutting yourself or contemplating suicide. |

I agree with Chii when it comes to the part that they're curious and the suicide thingy and whatnot. But I mean, they can't ground you for spilling your feelings out on a piece of paper that shouldn't even be read by them in the first place. If you're not gonna kill yourself, I think she should just keep what she read to herself. You should talk to them about it.. definitely. That's a stupid reason to ground you.

Yeah...so my mom did that to me. and found out about shit I did with a boy when I was drunk. Boy am I lucky she was nice to him when she met him hahaha. But yeah...I got grounded. for about a week tops. But yeah..so...after reading about that whole night she didn't really trust me anymore. I've begun hiding my diary better...It's not a big deal.

gah i know what you mean!! it only happend to me once tho because now i dont keep my notes or my diaries i just throw them away...i use to have a bunch of notes from this one guy that liked me and my responses or watever BUT THANK GOD my mom accidentally threw everything away and didnt bother reading them because their was pretty uhmmm....naughty stuff in those notes.
i would suggets talking to your parents about privacy and telling them how they would like it if you went around looking at private stuff of theirs. its good to tell your grandma to talk to them about it because she will most likely understand and side with you. my auntie helped alot to get my mom to give me my privacy because otherwise if i would say something she would just say its her right as a parent to look at what i have in my room. |

No, I am not going to kill my self or anything. God.
Their was stuff in there about me and my boyfriend that I didn't want them to read and what not. I don't want to talk to them about it and what not because they would say.. " Well if it is that bad we should read it and find out what else what we should do about the bad things that you have done." The worst they can do is that I woulden't be able to see half the friends I have and the boyfriend I have been going out with for the past year. Which is bull shit. I feel so stuck at this ponit I don't know what to do. :-( Am I screwed or what? |

You should say that they had no right to go though your stuff like that. A journal/diary is for your eyes only, and they violated your right to privacy by reading it.

Eheheh...my Dad read this note that I wrote which basically said how much I hated my parents because of the way they keep on bitching at me. He took the note and showed Mom.
They talked to me about it; I didn't get grounded or anything, but after that...I wrote in virtual blogs instead of real diaries because my parents have no access to my blogs. |

Are you sure they don't? Your blogs are on the internet.

i'd definitely talk to my parents.
if there was something in there that was of concern to them like signs of depression or writings about getting drunk or doing stupid things, i think they have a right to ground you or try to fix the situation. they just care about you, that's all. but if whatever was in there wasn't that bad (a small fight between you and your bf, etc.) then they really had no right to ground you. you could fight for the 'it's my private diary you had no right to read it' line if this is the case. |

for future reference, try to keep it in a safer spot. but i think it wasn't really her business to go through it, and you're right. but i don't think there's anything you can do about it, i mean they are your parents.

My mom found my online diary, which NO ONE knew about - it was a place where I wrote my most horrible thoughts. Needless to say, she freaked out and thought I was suicidal, etc.
But you have the right to your own privacy. I made her feel really guilty about it and I was right to do it, too. Tell her that it's not fair to invade somebody's privacy. |
