..And it was a fluke.

http://www.slate.com/id/2152255/

Some guy in Massachusetts beat the record Scrabble game score seemingly by accident, and it was all perfectly legitimate.

I'm impressed. I usually lose at Scrabble, unfortunately. mellow.gif

Wow.
Eh, I'm okay at Scrabble. I got it as a gift/prize for winning the spelling bee, and I've only played it like, 2 times. =P

I love vocabulary, but I am terrible at Scrabble. It's really pathetic. I don't like to play it in front of others, because that's how bad I am, but I think it's really awesome how they beat three records on accident. biggrin.gif

That's really good!

QUOTE
Since virtually all sports involve variable conditions, comparing one performance to another is technically imperfect. Consider the absence of black players in Babe Ruth's day, or the presence of steroids in the Barry Bonds era. On its face, the new Scrabble records seem to avoid such problems.

^Yeah, 830 was the amount of points.

What kills me is the fact that the guy is just an average Joe and they were basically just playing for fun. XD.gif

^actually, he wasn't really an average Joe; he was, after all, in a Scrabble competition. But you're right, he wasn't even remotely famous, and he did it by ACCIDENT. How in hail can you do that by accident?

^ Well, the article mentions that his play of "QUIXOTRY" was purely on his inexperience; most of the more experienced players would have cast around his tiles beforehand in hopes of getting a better competition.

But wow. That's crazy!
