So i just dropped my mp3 player ( a samsung yp-z5) into this tiny bucket of water (a dog dish if you will). Am i basically screwed or is there something i can do to save it?

It might work if you leave it for a while.

Don't try turning it on. Wait until it dries.

Use a blowdryer or something to dry it off.

You could bring it to where you bought it and they might help you fix it. And if it still doesn't work use the warranty

^ I'm not sure about mp3 players, but most cell phone warrenties don't cover water-damages.

Water to a cell phone basically kills it, so I'm guessing it's the same thing for a mp3 player.

Take it apart, let it dry out, and don't turn it on until it dries completely (best to wait a few days). It might end up working.

I'm not entirely sure, but it shouldn't be that easy to ruin. Good luck. ><
