i just got a dell E1705 inspiron laptop for my birthday and the first program that i downloaded was aim. for some strange reason, my IM/away message windows are extremely laggy when i try to drag them around the screen. i have no idea why it's doing this because a.) my computer is brand new and b.) it worked fine on my shitty old computer

i tried installing triton to see if that would work, but it ended up freezing. i also went and installed an older version of aim but my problem still persists. everything else works fine..it's just aim that's giving me problems. i have no idea how to fix it so im hoping someone on here can help.

Triton is crap. Don't use it.

AIM is probably using up too much RAM. Try Gaim. It's different, but it might work better.

Oh, and you probably have too many processes. Try exiting them from Task Manager.

You're using too much RAM. Graphic cards don't have much to do with this.
You also probably have too many processes open.

As I said before, try exiting some useless processes from Task Manager.

I would really suggest using Gaim though.

If you have iTunes, exit "iTunesHelper.exe"

And also, try it without your internet browser open. If that works better, it's definitely not a problem with AIM.

And definitely, definitely, definitely try Gaim. You can be on AIM, Google Talk, and some other stuff that I forgot at the same time.
I think it'll take up less RAM. Not sure since I haven't used it in months.

I dunno about gaim... But Triton does suck. You can go to download.com or other such sites to find the old aim. I think on aim.com, go to another country and it probably won't have aim triton. I went to UK, I think, and got my regular aim back when I saw how much Triton sucked.

Here's the link: http://info.aol.co.uk/aim/. I don't think that's triton. Good luck =]

I had the same problem.
I just got a new laptop from dell, and It did the same thing. I got advice to use a different version of aim, so I just searched for old versions, installed it and now it works great for me, plus its alot easier to use for me than the new triton version.

it's acctually your graphics card that would cause laggy display problems.

questions: 1- is the graphics card integrated or dedicated?

things to try:

1- try terra IM for now. http://terraim.sourceforge.net/

2- get your laptop off of a surface, and blow a fan on it.

^ur not suppoed to be advertising. ermm.gif get a laptop fan/notebook cooler. dells heat up pretty fast and a fan will help prevent problems and it'll cool it down making it more comfortable to leave on ur lap.
